It doesn't have to touch a glove to be an E. But it is ultimately up to the official scorer's discretion. I didn't see the play, so I don't know what it looked like. But personally, if there are multiple fielders going after a ball and they all have a chance at it and they all let it drop, I don't assign an E, simply because I don't have one single player to pin it on. They all deserve an E, lol.

A player must make contact with the ball and misplay it to begin the discussion of an error. After that there are other judgment calls that can be made to determine if it was indeed an error.

it's ruled that way 98% + in NCAA and MLB. No idea in lower levels.


If you're paying attention to scoring this is noticeable. Usually it is assumed ball was lost in lights or cloud etc. never get camped under and miss then it's a lucky hit

The announcers likely are on their couch as well. ESPN stopped sending announcers to games during the COVID season. Not sure if they're making an exception for this game.

The easy answer is: the guy camped under it for 10 secs. I get the premise.. I guess it's played so poorly that you can't even assign him an error. Just seems counterintuitive.
