Your first 9 holes are "out" and your second 9 are "in". Goes back to when golf started in Scotland, the shepherds would play until they ran out of pasture along the shores, then turn around and go back to where they started.

All of our guys are playing 1on1 matches against their guys. In each match, we're trying to win more holes than the other guy. You win a hole by getting a lower score on that hole than your opponent.

Let's say you and I are playing golf. On hole 1, you get a par, and I get a birdie. I'm now 1 (hole) up on you. The next hole I double bogie and you par. Now, we're A/S, or all square. Same thing happens on hole 3, now I'm 1 (hole) down. Each match lasts 18 holes, or at least as long as it takes for one golfer to clinch the match (being 7 up after 12 holes, for example).

First team to win 3 matches moves on to the National Championship round tomorrow. Hopefully that helps.
