I just looked at the radar...I don't think they will get back on the course today. If they do, it will be late. There is a good 3-4 hours left of heavy rain and then, if they are able to get on the course, it will be terrible conditions. I have a feeling it will be pushed until tomorrow. They might finish the 2nd round and then do a shotgun start for the 3rd round, or they push everything a day.

It will slow it down.

The comparison is our late round yesterday compared to their late round today. We had a fast course and they have a slow one. Advantage...them.

The problem is not the course change. The problem is the long lay-off. Those guys were pretty hot; they were warmed up and in a rhythm. Then they sit for 2 hours and have to go back out. Brutal.

Rain makes the course play longer and softer. This had its advantages and disadvantages, but generally elite level golfers prefer a wet course.

Advantages:
-Less roll in the fairway means the ball has less chance to roll through the fairway. It effectively makes the fairways play wider
-The greens "stick" more, meaning it's easier to control approach shots into greens and pitches around the greens
-The potential for lift clean, and place

Disadvantages:
-Less roll means less distance off the tee and thereby a longer club into greens
-The potential for too much spin with wedges because the greens "stick" more
-Rough is more difficult to play out of because wet long grass plays thicker than dry

As far as how golfers respond from rain delays, I always preferred a break when my game wasn't sharp and wanted to keep playing when I was on. But alot of it depends on how the weather changes during the break (wind direction, wind magnitude, amount of rain, etc.). Sometimes the course you play after a rain delay is very different than the one you played before. That can be a good or a bad thing.

Although one caveat to the "course change not mattering" comment - the greens will change and that is tough. Golf measures green speed with a device called a Stimpmeter. If "stimp" (green speed) before the rain was a 10 or 11, after the rain it'll be an 8 or 9. Putts hit the same will start coming up short.

Yes! Playoff!

We lost a playoff a couple years ago when it was 54 holes of stroke play and then a cut to the final round. We missed that cut to make it to the final day!

Earlier, someone asked about Nacho and why he wasn't playing.

I have an idea...I think it has something to do with the match play format. A&M played in only one match play tournament this year and it was the same five playing today.

It would be real nice to pass Arizona State and get into the final group tomorrow. I'd like to see Bronson paired with Hoffman and Henley in his last stroke play round in college, competing for the NCAA title.

Hopefully we can take advantage of the par 5 8th.
