Japan looks to be conceding the top spot in the team men's free skate in not sending their top skater out to compete (not that he was going to win anyway, the quadg0d doesn't lose free skates). Even if our pair finishes last (and they probably will), second place in the ladies' free skate should be enough for gold for the US.

US pair narrowly beats the duo from America's hat, so the US will only give 3 points back to Japan in this round. Anything short of a disaster in the ladies program should wrap this up. USA USA USA!

Looks like we will be all even going into the last event (men's), where the US will be an overwhelming favorite. Surprising that the Japanese aren't sending their best skater. Not sure if they just really want him to get a medal, or if their top guy didn't want to do his long program before the individual final.

ETA: It looks like the guy they are sending had the high score in the free skate at the Japanese championships, so maybe they feel that he earned the spot. His best score is over 40 points less than Malinin's so it would take a major disaster from the American skater to lose here.

They (particularly the girl) are not great in terms of being medal contenders, but they are an international level team. The Japanese don't even have an entrant in the ice dancing competition.

The US pair got 13 points in the competition, whereas the Japanese dancers scored 9 (and you get 7 just for showing up in both rounds).

Shout out to Langenhan for winning Gold in Luge singles. Way to represent the Germans.

Lindsey Vonn apparently had a second operation yesterday. Most likely reason would be concern for developing compartment syndrome (swelling threatening circulation to the limb); treatment is leaving open incisions through the muscle fascia.
