2 man Bobsleigh final run. Germany has a chance to go 1, 2, and 3. LET'S GOOOO!!!

You Germans cheat by building better bobsleds than everyone else.

Says the American team who spent 200k on their sleds. Give us something after that beat down in hockey.

More that they hoard all the tracks and Americans are way too safety first. We need to bring back city run Soapbox derbys to get the next generation ready

Amber Glenn follows Malinin's example and falls. This new generation is the opposite of clutch

We still have a chance with Alysa Liu! Hope she has a clean slate tomorrow.

Did she blame Trump for her falling?

Technically, she did not fall. It would have been way better if she had fallen.

The short program rules are brutal. You must do a triple jump; you have one shot and if you accidentally do a double jump instead NO POINTS FOR YOU!

She is clearly a head case, but that was honestly hard to watch. She was devastated, kept saying "I had it". She was clean until doubling that jump at the end.

Curious if Ilia and Amber went into their programs to tight and not allow themselves to just skate and be relaxed.

Every time I've seen Amber skate (which is two times, counting today) she has looked terrified. But she actually did quite well until that one crucial moment. I think she was just fatigued and it's really hard to tell your body to keep spinning and fall rather than popping out of the jump.

Ilia, I blame the coaches for not sitting him down before the contest and going over the math and what to do if his competitors fell. He just needed to do the simpler performance he did in the team competition, and didn't even need to do as well as he did then (which wasn't very good, by his standards). Instead he went for his insanely high difficulty quad axel and when that went south he just fell apart. Looked like he had the yips.

I suspect the whole "quadg0d" thing got to him and he was thinking it wasn't good enough to just win; he needed to be transcendent.

There are only 23 open bobsled courses in the world that are at a national/international competition level, and 7 of them are in Germany. The US only has the two Olympic tracks in Lake Placid and Salt Lake City.

The tracks are very expensive to build and keep operational; in the last 50 years the Sarajevo, Calgary, Nagano, and Torino Olympic tracks have been demolished or allowed to go to seed.

Indoor speed skating ovals have similar issues. The French still haven't figured out where they will hold speed skating at the next Olympics.

Between the cost to build extraordinarily expensive facilities for very niche sports and changing climate conditions, there may not be another "de novo" winter Olympics site in the foreseeable future.

And I guess the French are to proud to ask The Netherlands to use one of their speed tracks for the next Olympics.

Don't worry. Plenty of time for Germany to invade France again before then. Then they can use a Munich track.

They need to just have a rotation of a few cities to hold the winter games.

This year would have been a great year to have at Placid with all the snow they've had

I read that the Dutch speed skaters are actually against that plan. It would be kind of lame to be at the Olympics, but not really because there's no one there except the same people you see at every tour stop.

Almaty, Kazakhstan keeps applying. Maybe one day the IOC will finally decide to take all those petro-rubles.

KAZAKHSTAN, KAZAKHSTAN YOU VERY NICE PLACE!

Ok, then hold the speed skating back in Milano. It's just over the border.

I think the other main option is Torino, re-using the 2006 venue.

Torino may be closer to Nice than the French mountain towns for the mountain events. Might be closer to the French mountain towns than Nice as well.

My phone advises driving through Torino to get from Nice to Val-d'Isere. It's clearly the right answer if they're not going to build in France. Question is whether the Italians want to renovate their ice skating arena for a French Olympics.

Second fastest time in the 2nd run (only her teammate Moltzan was faster, much earlier in the order when the course was cleaner).

Shiffrin now tied for second all time in Olympic golds among female Alpine skiers with three (no one, male or female, has more than 4).
