TCTTS, you're slipping on reporting relevant news.

edit to add (I hit post too soon) Paramount is developing a Rainbow Six movie with Michael B Jordan as John Clark.

And Without Remorse. Not the biggest fan of Michael B, just hope they halfway do Without Remorse some justice.

To be completely honest, I barely made it through the pilot of this show, and didn't watch anymore. So I haven't been all that enthusiastic about posting more Tom Clancy news.

I like him as an actor. Super pumped they're actually making a without remorse adaptation. That is one of my all-time favorite revenge stories. It is awesome.

I think the execution of the writing and production is subpar. The story itself is interesting, but the acting has fallen flat thus far. I'm halfway through episode 6, and can only make myself watch it when I'm running on the treadmill.

Good to see that Lloyd Braun pulled through.

I enjoyed it outside of the drone pilot plot line. That was completely irrelevant and dumb. I also did not find Ryan's love interest attractive so that story was flat for me, but it didn't take away from the overall story.

Some of y'all get way too critical and miss the forest for the trees.

I'm just going to assume that the drone pilot storyline was in there to set up the character for future seasons. If not, well then that was a totally weird tangent.

They clearly had an episode quota and didn't have enough material

The drone pilot and weird 3 some was strictly filler

They missed quite a bit esp turning Darth Vader into a Muslim

6 out of 10 is my rating

I still do not understand why the son was randomly in the parking lot of the hospital.

Wasn't random. the terrorist dad's plan was to bug out as soon as they pulled off planting the bomb. So he wanted his son there so they could just go. He was with a getaway car driver.

So would this series tie in to the new movies at all? They sort of alluded to the Bud Light King being Clark in the show, but is MBJ is going to take that mantle up what then?

No, i don't think so. The movies are going to focus on the John Clark character in Without Remorse and Rainbow Six.

The reason they couldn't get "Clark" in the show is because Paramount (?) still has the rights supposedly. Something about since Clark had his own book. Kinda sounds like Amazon screwed up the rights negotiations but what do I know.

Thanks! That was actually really bugging me - why they didnt just make him Clark, when he so obviouslyt was.

Which is really interesting because those stories kind of bookend the Jack Ryan character arc (in the books). In Without Remorse, Ryan is still ONLY AN ANALYST while in Rainbow Six he the frickin' POTUS iirc. It'll be interesting to see if they stick to that timeline and acknowledge the aging of the characters, or if they'll just adjust the whole universe to make them flow more easily together.

Actually in without remorse Ryan is like in High School and his dad mentions he's off to BC I think.

We finished this up last night and I thought it was pretty well done.

I thought the first episode or two were rough around the edges but towards the middle it hits it stride and finished well. I thought it was pretty decently written and had enough suspense and action without being just a meathead explosion movie. I actually thought the middle eastern actors (especially the actor who played Suleiman) were pretty good.

That's not to say it didn't have a couple shortcomings. I hated the doctor lady. Not so much the character but the actress. She wasn't very attractive and just bothered me to a point where I sighed when she was in a scene. Also the entire premise that an analyst would be out from behind his nerd job to go hunt terrorists overseas sometimes popped into my head.

Overall we enjoyed it and thought it was a good quick series to fill some time. Nothing groundbreaking but we'll be in for any additional seasons they put out.

I watched the series this weekend and it kept bugging me that the Doctors Without Borders head guy looked familiar. Then it hit me he was Lloyd Braun. Fantastic! After all, Lloyd Braun can do anything.

I'm about 5-6 episodes in. I'm really enjoying this show.

The drone pilot story line is my only nit pick. It's not a bad story line to throw in, but it doesn't connect to anything. Almost seems like they were going to tie it in at some point, and changed directions.

I thought it was pretty dumb as well. Just fell needless and could've used that to expand more on the main characters or plot

Agree the drone storyline was weak and weird.

I'm hoping Season 2 will have a larger budget and a few more episodes to iron out the kinks.

I like JK as Jack Ryan but he still is Halpert and WP is Bunk. At times the acting was ridiculous. At least they put a new spin on Muslim terrorists not trying to blow up a large venue/site.

Matice was pretty bad ass. Good enough to be the Clark replacement. Looking forward to Michael Kelly in season 2.

Overall I'd give it a B.

Agree with everyone in this thread saying that Abbie Cornish is the weakest link. I actually found her to be distracting. I learned from this thread that she's supposed to be American, which floored me. All I know about the Jack Ryan universe is from Red October so I naturally assumed she's supposed to be British. If that's supposed to be an American accent then she missed by a lot. What's weirder is that she did a good American accent in A Good Year several years ago.

Plus, just no chemistry between JK and AC. It would be hard to match the incredible chemistry JK had with Jenna Fischer so it's unfair to compare, but I just saw no spark between JK and AC.

Still, not a bad series that I'll continue.

Not arguing your take on the actress, performance, chemistry, but....

And yeah for whatever reason Gates McFadden (an American) played her with a haughty British accent in the opening of Red October but.....no clue why. She was only in for 4 seconds during the credits.

FYI. She was American in the books, and in every other Ryan movie.

Have you not seen any other Ryan movies?

In Patriot Games where she had a lot more than 4 seconds of screentime (like RO) she was an American surgeon played by Anne Archer. In Clear and Present Danger it was still Anne Archer.

she also had a different name:
Caroline Ryan in RO
Cathy Ryan everywhere else

In Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit the prequel reboot she was Cathy Muller played by a Brit Keira Knightley as an American before they were married.

I had to look up that she was even in Red October, a throwaway character in that one.

I dont mind her at all. If she was integral to the storyline, maybe I'd feel differently. (but I'm only 6 eps in).

I remember seeing the movies with Harrison Ford and Ann Archer but retained nothing from them. Whereas for me, I'll watch Red October any time it's on, so I'm much more familiar with it.

I was confused about the wife/accent thing after reading this thread so I did a quick google search. Found this article that explains why the wife had a British accent in Red October:

I enjoyed it, thought it was on par with a non-Brody Homeland season.

Also Matice actor is the King in the Dilly Dilly commercials.
holy crap this just came to me this morning watching espn and saw a bud light commercial and made the connection.

Then I quickly rescanned the thread because I was sure I must have missed it on my first read.

Somehow this makes me like the show even more now.
