i finally got around to watching the new season, and will echo the sentiments of most of the board. Very cliched and transparent writing, but I was expecting that so I could turn my brain off and just enjoy it for what it is (which isnt "Jack Ryan", but I digress)
Knew the bad chick, Ade and the Texan senator would all be involved somehow. saw that coming from a mile away. would have been a much better curve ball had the old female senator been the one that was behind all of it and was hoping to get Wright to take the fall. I was half expecting us to have a CAPD assassination when she and Ade went to Nigeria, setting up Greer to actually become the Director (which that whole thing was sloppy and resolved far too quickly). Cathy's involvement was just incredibly forced. Gets taken hostage so Jack has to play hero? Felt more 24 and not Jack Ryan.
Side note, there was a scene earlier in the season, where Jack was being dressed down for being too by the book. i really wanted him to get called a "boy scout". i feel like they very lightly touch on Jack being by the book with the moral compass of absolute right and wrong, but feel like they didnt do that enough.
Final thought, I do love me some Michael Pena, and by the end I was won over, but I was really skeptical of him playing Ding (which, did they ever use that nickname ? never heard it) Didnt quite seem badass enough. would have loved to get more of his background (Plus i still realllly hate that didnt/couldnt use Clark). I did like the very very end "team photo" which could be a fantastic backdoor to R6. but year, the hearing was pretty bad. what sophomore film student wrote this trash? terrible. maybe they were trying to pay homage to the hearing at the end of CAPD and Ryan telling off the corrupt Prez with the "I dont dance", but if so, they did a crappy job with it.
