Show was badass, fantastic set list including (as I'm sure you're aware) all of Shake Your Money Maker. Chris' voice was excellent, and the whole band (minus Rich as he's always a bit ho-hum looking ha) seemed to be having a good time. Seen them probably 3 other times and this was as good as any of them.

Opener is Dirty Honey, and they rocked also. Straight up rock and roll band, Les Paul into a Marshall, did a great Aerosmith cover too. I enjoyed their set for sure.

I'll be at the Woodlands show also!

Alanis last night. Garbage was great but the first opener was a little meh

Going to Black Crowes as well. I have the M&G and based on the photos I saw on the link they provided they look awkward as hell

If the shows advertised to start at 730, I'm guessing that's the opener? We got hosed a couple years ago at GnR walking in at 740 for a 730 show and missed Estranged. That will never happen again.

Yup my crew is going to Dirty Honey/Black Crowes as well! Will be hot as hell as expected in August but really looking forward to it.

Dirty Honey is legit good.

My buddy and his dad had the M&G in Dallas, and they said the brothers looked like they had woken up about 30 minutes prior haha. Also of course social distancing so pics like 6 feet apart+. Said all was cool though.

I did the meet & greet in Dallas too. It was awkward but better than nothing, I guess. They have a generic lithograph for $50. So far only Nashville & Chicago have had city specific posters (with signed ones available) unfortunately. My buddy is going to see them at Red Rocks. Hope they have special posters for that one.

Dirty Honey was fantastic. Their singer is amazing! I like their album but they sounded even better live.

Rich is ALWAYS like that. I was honestly not a fan of the set list. I knew they were playing all of SYMM and SHMC is a great album but 6 songs from that album was way too much. Only left time for two other BC songs and the Zep cover for the encore. And they miss Steve Gorman on drums.

Dirty Honey sounded great in Houston also although I think the vocal mix needed a boost. Also there were no mics for the back up vocal guitarist which I thought was weird especially on Rollin 7s.

Very gifted young band I hope they hit it big.

Band rules. I discovered them through Eddie Trunk's podcast. Personally find them more exciting than Greta Van Fleet.

There used to be a band from the UK called The Treatment that opened for Kiss/Crue in 2012, I thought they were great, but sadly their career went nowhere

Loved the show at The Woodlands last night! Dirty Honey was amazing and Black Crowes were so much fun! I still marvel at what a masterpiece SYMM is.

The keyboard player cracked me up with his theatrics. He looked like he just stepped out of a Yacht Rock band circa 1980.

I also appreciated the human prop of the bartender standing in the background in his ruffled shirt tuxedo.

SYMM is probably my 4th or 5th favorite Crowes album so I could've done without hearing the whole thing so they could play more from their later albums.

Widespread Panic has the same policy for the 3 night Austin run this coming weekend PLUS a mask to enter. I'll be taking that **** off so fast once I get on the floor.
Well I didn't even get a chance to challenge the mask policy. I pulled out of CS on Friday at 12:30 with plans on checking into the W at 2:30 for three nights.

Got a call from my buddy as I'm about 45 minutes on the road telling me shows are cancelled. He does systems testing at Moody and said they got a call from the W saying don't come and that a band member got covid and the shows had been called off.

I start making multiple calls to friends and nobody had heard a thing. Nothing out their on any social channels either. I pull into the W and the line was so long outside at 2:30 pm of people just waiting around to take their covid tests. Even my valet guy at the hotel hadn't heard the news and I told him.

Go upstairs and meet up with my buddy already there. We hang out for an hour and then get on the elevator and some random guy goes "sucks about the shows huh" and then hands us a huge bag of edibles for some random reason and said he'd just flown in from San Diego for the shows.

Ended up being John Bell (lead singer) testing positive even though he and the entire band are fully vaxxed. Made the best out of the weekend but now I don't even see the point in booking any trips unless they are 2-3 hour drives away. I mean, I broke the news to everyone three hours before the band even did and they only did three hours before doors were to open. This madness has got to stop immediately.

edit: Oh, and for the extra kick in the nuts, the band rescheduled the 3 night run during Bama weekend here.

Terrible story from Dead & Co. tonight in New York:

https://nypost.com/2021/08/20/dead-company-fan-dead-after-falling-from-citi-field-balcony/

Quote:

The Dead & Company show at Citi Field turned tragic Friday night when a man fell to his death while trying to do a flip on a balcony, police and witnesses said.

The fan, who was in his 40s, plunged some 30 to 50 feet during intermission at around 9 p.m., and landed on concrete, cops said. He was taken to NewYorkPresbyterian Queens Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"I heard people going 'ahhh' and see people running. I said 'bro, someone took a fing header," a fan in a tye-dye tank top told The Post.

A driver working outside the stadium said he saw the man "flip" before he fell and slammed into the ground.

I love Megadeth. Seen them many times but will have to pass on this one. They are playing in Dallas tonight but Chris Stapleton tickets were bought almost 2 years ago and I couldn't talk the family out of this one.

I hate that I'm going to miss this Megadeth show.

I was rail at Megadeth in Austin as I had the M&G VIP, the show was enjoyable with some good sets from all 4 bands, but the headlining sets felt a bit too short. Megadeth only did 11 songs.

The Meet and Greet was just a terrible experience. Because of the pandemic, I understand that M&Gs are pretty much a thing of the past, but some artists have just canceled them and given out refunds (like Primus), Megadeth went ahead with theirs. There is no meet and greet, no personal photo with the band, they do a Q&A and then the band stands in front of the group of 40+ and that's your VIP photo.

Side Stage VIP got screwed worse as there was no side stage access, instead, they were told to stand in the photo pit (the area between the stage and the barricade) for about 3 songs, and then they can go to the back of the regular pit.

Anyone seen Guns N Roses recently? They're playing in PHX tonight w/ Mammoth WVH opening. I'm considering going. I haven't seen them since they toured w/ Metallica 30 years ago.

I saw them in 2017 in Houston and in Tulsa. Great show both nights. No opener on that tour and they played almost 3 hours. I don't think Slash ever left the stage.

Definitely go if you're thinking about it.

They are playing in Dallas on Wednesday and I would love to go but it is 2 hours away and will be difficult on a work night.

Axl can't sing. If that doesn't bother you, then go. I want to go mainly to see Wolfgang.

Judging from recent videos, Mickey Axl is back.

Late 2017 he was starting to sound horrible again. The Rock in Rio stream was horrible.

Never heard of Mr. Stapleton, he must be special.

Most fun concert I've seen is Avatar. Backed up BabyMetal a couple of years ago and saw them in Dallas. They are returning to Texas in Sept for 3 shows latter part of the month. They are very entertaining.

I ended up going. It was a good time.

I liked Mammoth even though I wasn't familiar w/ the songs. WVH is a big boy, and he has some serious chops. I'm going to add them to my rotation.

GNR opened w/ 'It's So Easy' followed by 'Mr. Brownstone' and those were the best sounding songs in terms of Axl's vocals. He wasn't terrible but he didn't have his classic sound, and he had way too much reverb on his mic. It made him sound muddy. By comparison, Duff sang a Stooges cover about half way through the 3 hr set, and he sounded much clearer. Other than that I thought the band sounded great. Slash sounded better than I was expecting and brought a lot of energy. Overall I thought it was worth the time and $.

Nope. Wolf is trying to be his own musician. He is super talented but he is not a copy of his father. There are some very subtle VH references on the album but not much. Honestly, I don't really even hear much VH influence in his music.

Gives him a dominating stage presence. Comment wasn't meant as a negative. Also, he was playing a Gibson ES335 or similar type semi-hollow guitar, and it just looked small in his hands.

I didn't get a VH vibe from any of their songs. They played a short set, maybe 7 songs or so. 3 Guitarists including Wolf, a bass player, and a drummer. He played keyboard briefly on the last song.

There is a little two note ending to one of the songs (I think it's Don't Back Down) that was a nod to how VH ended So This Is Love off Fair Warning and Wolf said the sequencing of the instrument pics on the packaging was modeled after the cover of the first VH album. Plus he used the Frankenstein guitar on a couple spots. That's about it.I hear more of a Foo Fighters influence than anything else.

Just came to post this. Brutal news for those en route to the farm. I'd never go back but 2003, 2004, and 2009 were a blast (except for all of the rain and mud in 2004).
