I had held onto tickets for Roo 2020 since 2019...the cancelation was crushing. We ended up going to Chicago for North Coast Fest which was actually more fun than I expected. Still hurting for a camping festival though

I am also pissed off about the rescheduling of the Panic run in Austin. Not only were we canceled on HOURS before the doors opened(after multiple reschedules to begin with), but now they want us to come back the second weekend that ACL is in town along with 100k other people.

So basically they canceled due to covid and now they want us to come back when the city is full of people traveling. Even if you can get a hotel room at this point, it will cost you no less than $400/night, and good luck getting an uber that won't cost you $100 per ride.

Update: I'm at Stubbs and the covid check is not done by venue staff but Capitol Medical Services. They do check ID and card. A few people here freaking out because they don't have a test so they are going to cvs for a 15 minute one.

Holy hell. I haven't had a show like these in a long time. Took like 3 waters from security, some people passing out before the opener even started (if you've been to Stubbs you know the front has literally no air flow). What a mental show. MGK was mega

Just got back from My Morning Jacket in Bend, Oregon.

Holy hell that was amazing. The venue is awesome and the band was even better. Great crowd and the band knew how to play to them. They started off with "I'm Amazed" and ended with "One Big Holiday." Perfect bookends.

So glad you enjoyed it. They have been on an absolute tear this tour, they have been changing up their set lists pretty good. Seriously if you can go see these guys right now, now is the time to go see them.

Saw Modest Mouse w/ Future Islands in Irving last thursday, had a great time, thought both bands were great.
MM rocked it out and played a good amount of older tunes that i was happy to hear, including Dramamine!

Got the Dead & Co texas tour this week, hitting Dallas thursday and driving down to Houston on Friday, fingers crossed the weather cooperates.

Saw Future Islands and MM here in Houston. I'm not a huge fan of White Oak lawn shows but it was a fun time. MM sounded great. Started the set with Dramamine and Cowboy Dan! Great opening. My only beef is you all got 19 songs and we only got 15. White Oak has a curfew and Isaac seemed surprised by that. With onyl a few songs left he said something like "I was just informed this place has a curfew. Hm, we're going to have to look at the set list and figure this out." Seems like a tour manager fail on that one! Given that information I wished they would have skipped the "leaving for the encore" bit and given us an extra song.

Still a great show.

Going to Dead & Co. in The Woodlands Friday.

The current iteration of KISS was very entertaining in Austin. Saw them 2X in the mid 70's in Houston and its clear they have invested some of their earnings back into props/sound systems. Much better show for sure.

To those that went to Dead & Company in Houston or Dallas, how was it? I debated on whether or not to go, but I opted to sit them out.

I went to Houston. It was my first Dead concert and I enjoyed it. We came to the Dead via John Mayer. Thoroughly enjoyed every song he sang and enjoyed Bobs songs as well. I think it would take more shows and some drugs to ever get into the drums/space section of the show. They covered Marty Robbins' "El Paso" which the crowd loved. They closed with "Black Muddy River" which was probably my favorite of the night. I think this week I might buy the show and give it a few more listens.

Good stuff! Glad to hear you enjoyed it.

But yeah, for drums/space, you're either blazed out of your gourd or you use it as restroom time.

Why not both?

Did lawn for Dallas and had a blast about six rows up center with friends. Hadn't seen the screens at Starplex upgraded to HD like that. Fun as hell. Feminist first set was what it was.

Had Woodlands lawn and decided to grab 6th row yesterday around 1 pm and was able to focus on the band much more than the social scene the night before.

Absolutely phenomenal two night run and my level of respect for John Mayer just keeps on growing. I also aspire to have Bob Weir's arms when I'm in my 70's.

And that "Black Muddy River" was enough to make a grown man cry. Now I just need to figure out how to go to Red Rocks all of a sudden.

Yep, just got back. That is the best. Lots 40 feet from mall lot charging $25. I felt like I was the first person out of there so it was perfect (by Macys closest spot in direction of Pavillion).

I've been to dozens of shows at Cynthia Woods and parked at Macy's every time and it's never been an issue. Sometimes they even rope off the furthest portion of the Macy's parking lot and try to charge money but you still don't need to pay, just park a little further away from that, they won't tow you.

We just parked in the Orange Lots, which are free, and it's a nice easy walk to the show.

It was a contrast from White Oak, which I was at exactly a week before. White Oak was pay parking but water was $2 and a tall can of Art Car IPA was $8. Woodlands had free parking but water was $5.99 and tall beer was $15!!! Yikes!

I usually park in blue and get there early and walk over and have dinner/drink at one of the riverwalk places. Free parking and not a long walk and mostly shaded.

Beers (craft; Saint Arnold's) are now $16.29 for what I'm pretty sure is a pint. Will make me feel better with Kyle Fields 22oz at $11

I made it to both Dallas and Houston Dead&Co shows.

Dallas - first set was great, that Peggy-O was beautiful and the Sugaree was off the charts. 2nd set, got a bucket list Help->Slip->FT that was so much fun, followed by the Other One, i wasn't even upset with having to leave during Drum/Space since we were heading out early for houston.

Houston - was a little underwhelmed with the first set, the sound on the lawn was awful to begin with but they figured it out by Dire Wolf, which was great. Loved Jack Straw as well. Set 2 was a face melter for sure, Truckin and St. Stephen were..just..SHEESH!. Always love a Black Muddy River as was mentioned above.

Had a blast, got to take some friends in houston that are not familiar with the Dead much, and they all had a great time.

Nice recap. That Jack Straw was phenomenal. Loved El Paso as well. Buddy said they might play those two on the way in and sure enough we got 'em. And yes everything else you listed was greatness.

Unfortunate to hear about poor lawn sound first set. It looked like a great scene but I guess I'm even more glad I upgraded to seats day of on a whim. Also had a friend go with us that likes the Dead but for some strange reason hadn't been to a concert at all in like 20 years since NOLA Jazzfest. He had a blast.

Have friends seeing them tonight in Red Rocks as we speak. Jealous.

I was looking at how to see/listen to the show again and didn't realize (or had forgotten) that you get a free copy of the soundboard recording of the show with your ticket.

Just installed nugs app and am listening to The Woodlands this morning.

I will also say I've gone on YouTube and watched 3-4 different live recordings of "Black Muddy River" over the last few days. I had never heard of that song before and man it's beautiful. Coming to it from being a Mayer fan it feels very up his alley. He sings and plays the hell out of it.

Should be fun. Didn't know some of those acts still existed.

Just curious: what was the cost per person? Looks like price included everything, including booze.

We paid $3500 (not including flight) for a junior suite for 2 back in 2019 for this trip(cancelled in 2020). The next one in 2022 we paid $5500 already for the advanced discount rate.

So not cheap but hella fun and a really good group of middle aged fun people.
