Let's say hypothetically a BIPOC plays a flute. People like my neighbor will take that as a political attack. Same as a LGBTQ+ couple shown in a movie would be seen as sexualizing a movie

In his mind there are two sexual preferences (straight and political) and two ethic groups (white and political)

First BIPOC is ******ed.

Secondly I learned that Lizzo was a classically trained flutist, I watched the video of her playing in the rotunda (impressive). So I certainly didn't have a problem with it, because it wasn't a joke, she's very talented.

Thirdly I was offended when she played the flute with her giant fupa hanging out sides, cause that's just gross and no one wants to see that. Flute not relevant to being disgusted.

Fourth you're kind of a beating and had no problem with a special needs kid getting the **** kicked out of him, so your opinions kinda blow.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but a lot of these comedies end up getting popular over time, not necessarily on the opening box office weekend, right?

I haven't looked it up but I doubt Crazy Rich Asians or My Big Fat Greek Wedding debuted at number one in the box office. People went and saw them, started talking about how great they were, then their friends went to see it, etc. They were good, entertaining movies.

This one may have had a shot at getting that sort of buzz and getting people in to the theater to see it over time, but when you have Eichner out there insinuating if you didn't see this movie on opening weekend you were a homophobic bigot, I would think that turns a lot of the potential future audience into a non-audience.

Movie theater attendance is just down in general and most people aren't willing to pay that much money to go see a movie they can stream at home in a few months.

half right

Crazy Rich Asians was #1 in it's first THREE weeks of release. And made 2/3 of its box office take in that span.

But My Big Fat Greek Wedding was #20 its first week and took months to grow from the #11-#15 range. In its 20th week it hit #2.

But that is an exception by far. I would not say it happens very often. And that was 2002. Very few films would last more than 6 weeks in a theater run now if they aren't big right out of the gate.

One day gay men are going to figure out that straight men simply do not like gay intimacy or sexual stuff. It's nothing personal, it's hard wired.
And I didn't want to see Sharon Stone's coot coot, but it didn't stop me from watching Basic Instinct. I am definitely hard-wired with an aversion to lady bits. The only minj I want to see is Ginger Minj.

Nonetheless, straight or even lesbian sexual stuff isn't a dealbreaker for me if it's in a movie because the LGBT community doesn't generally have a lot of societal hangups about sex. It's just sex.
This reminds me of college. I had a gay roommate while living in the dorms my junior year. Pretty cool dude. We were hanging out with some other guys from the dorm and one of them was so completely confused by the whole deal and asking all sorts of questions.

This guy couldn't get it across his mind that my roommate was a fan of lesbian sexual stuff. My roommate would say,

Roomate: "I'm just not attracted to girls and I don't find that interesting."

Dorm guy: "But they're gay. Aren't you gay. Wouldn't you be into that?"

R: "Yes, I am gay and as such am only attracted to men. Not women."

This guy could not figure out the difference and it was rather entertaining watching him struggle. My roommate had tons of patience.

And then when you complain that nobody went and saw you're movie, you just look even more ridiculous. It's hilarious how clueless most celebrities are now.

I get where he's coming from - "If you're someone who hates gay people, I don't want you seeing my movie" - but A) blatantly assuming all Trump supporters hate gays, and then B) blaming straight people for not showing up (as he did on Twitter today) - many of which are the very straight people he insulted - probably wasn't the smartest strategy.

No, it wasn't. It actually did the opposite: now I have the subtle desire to avoid seeing it for that very reason. I know it is petty, but going to Twitter as he did has consequences for 98% of ppl when they say stupid stuff.

I'll probably catch it on Netflix. I went with my wife to New Orleans and we met up her coworkers during pride week downtown. It was a blast. I never once thought LBGTQ had any issue being seen or making it known that they wanted to be seen. But glad to hear this movie helped out others that felt hidden.

two ugly chicks making out does nothing for me.

let me amend that. ugly people making out/having sex does nothing for me.

if I am going to have to watch two or more people play act at sex, at least cast attractive people in the roles.
the older I get, the more I don't want to see any of that in a movie

as we have a world of internet pr@n

why should I watch some hollywood actor fake make out when you can get the real thing on your computer?

If it's understandable that some demographic groups skip certain forms of entertainment because they "can't see themselves in it," it should be okay for everyone.

"Bros" appeals to a certain demographic, just like a Western, a teen vampire flick or a "Fast and Furious" movie. And that's okay. I loved "1883;" I doubt many black teen-agers or recent Asian immigrants watched a second of it.

We live in a very fragmented country. Attracting a broad audience requires a lot of skill ... or some kind of superhero.

I had no clue this film was a thing. If they wanted to attract straight white middle aged males, maybe advertise it a bit on platforms that my demographic might frequent. I still have not seen one single ad for this film. Oh, but I guess it must be homophobia, not poor marketing.

Billy Eichner went on Pardon My Take to promote it, and their customer base is basically just white males.

That is a good point though, I don't think I have actually seen an ad for the film anywhere. I wonder if they saved money on marketing, should help with profit margins.

I didn't listen to that episode of PMT specifically because I saw he was on it. Had no idea about this movie, I just find him insufferable.

Maybe people didn't go see the movie because nobody gives a **** about Billy Eichner. Just a thought.

Yes, there's gay sexual content, but I thought it was pretty limited and tame (and sometimes unrealistic, because the positions they were in wouldn't be, um ... conducive to what they were supposed to be doing). Definitely not kid-friendly, but not too much for adults who aren't prudes to handle.
Honestly, after seeing a trailer on another board that showed (from behind), two men going down on another man, while another watched and said something "funny"...I was pretty disgusted and put-off. And I am far from a prude. Would say the same thing if it was chicks on a dude. Some things are just straight up pornographic and have no place in Hollywood imo. I honestly couldn't believe it was in a movie trailer.

One day gay men are going to figure out that straight men simply do not like gay intimacy or sexual stuff. It's nothing personal, it's hard wired. Once they figure this out, there is potential to make some really hilarious gay themed movies.

Dude, what you saw in that trailer is about all you see in the entire movie. Many straight men are comfortable enough with who they are that they aren't so easily uncomfortable.

You definitely don't speak for all straight men.
Two men going down on another man while yet another man watches is f-ing WEIRD and over-the-top for a movie trailer. I won't bend on that, not sure why that offends you. Most straight men won't line up to see sexxed up gay stuff (some guys, like Duncan Idaho etc., eat it up, but not most), it is crazy to me that some of you think this is a crazy notion lol. I do not know a single straight man who wants to go see a lewd gay romcom. We live in different realities if most straight men you know are into that.

All that being said, it IS bizarre to me that so few gays and lesbians are seeing this movie. Maybe most of them also find Billy Eichner to be extremely annoying and unlikable.

Stuff like that is code for, "I don't mind if you're gay, just don't actually exist in any way that offends me, which is pretty much everything"
"I don't like seeing gay sexual activity or orgies in movie trailers" = "don't exist or do things that make you happy".

I'd be curious to read the original quote.

It could be a innocent as something along the lines of "we unapologetically made this movie for LGBTQ+ and if that offends people outside those communities, so be it."

Vs

"We made this film to mock you and both your religions."

People offended by that tweet were never going to watch a gay rom-com.

I agree with him fwiw and I expect most atheists and even some Christians would agree. Practice your religion all you want, I don't need it pressed in my life via govt action or other avenues.

Wait, you mean he posted a tweet about religious people striping rights from people based on religion on the day that religious people successfully ended a multi decade crusade to strip rights from people and calling for further reduction of rights including contraception and gay marriage.

This.

What does being confident in your sexuality have to do with not wanting to watch two dudes makeout or fellate each other? I don't like watching MMA or boxing because I just don't like watching two people beating the **** of out of each other; it bothers me. The same thing goes for watching two dudes participate in sexual acts with each other. I find it cringy and would prefer not to see it. I can't help it, it was how I was born.

Also, I will parrot the idea that Billy Eichner is insufferable. He, along with a couple other characters, completely ruined Parks and Rec. If you are trying pick someone to be the face of normalizing gay relationships, then you are choosing the wrong person. He is horrible, annoying, and hateful.

Go with someone like Neil Patrick Harris, who has always come off as charming and likeable. Granted, I still don't want to see him fellate a dude, either, though I've always liked him in any interview I see.
