This has caught my attention...and not being part of the Gay community I am interested in what is going on here:

"They will understand the challenges the LGBTQ+ community faces on a daily basis and the stigmas and shame they place on each other."

What's up with that?

We all grew up with a lot of trauma. Most of us knew pretty early we were different, and we hid it at a very young age for many years from family, friends, teachers, coaches etc.

While that's going on, we also hear a lot of homophobic rhetoric in society, thus making us shame laden and….

Compensating by trying to be the best at everything. Gay men are often trying to have the perfect body, career, wealth, personality to make up for that shame when younger.

That doesn't really take the shame and anger out of the equation, though. It's a band aid. And when the band aid is perfection, you have some fragile egos that get in competition with one another, either consciously or unconsciously.

Make sense?

Yeah, it does.

I don't think it is unique to the Gay community, though. That obviously provides an extra layer of complication, but the constant comparison with others goes back to the beginning of time for everyone...and Social Media is gasoline on the fire.

Anyone overweight, unathletic, plain, and sometimes even just very Type B has bitten off a piece of that growing up.

But, yeah, I was one of those guys who, when I was young and Gay was just an abstract, made those comments. Then when you get older and the abstract becomes actual people you quit doing it.

Ideally.

Case in point. It wasn't diverse enough, despite there being people of color everywhere in the film. But this guy wanted a Latin lead. It never ends.

God forbid he should write and try to get made the movie he envisions himself.

No, it must be provided!

Gay people aren't the only ones who try to compensate for trauma in their past or other things, nor are they the only ones that peacock around trying to be the cock of the walk.

I say that only to say that those behaviors are not unique to the gay community, and neither is shame, although I do understand that the shame you describe is different than a straight person would feel for obvious reasons.

I started my reply that says a lot of the same things this does and got sidetracked so apologies for sounding repetitive.

You just described a sh** ton of straight people (probably more women than men) too. But the girls (and many boys) offing themselves left and right or dealing with depression because of societal pressure and demands don't get a whole month of heaping praise and adoration.

The only part of the gay "struggle" I can be sympathetic to, is the fact that most straight men generally don't click with gay men. No matter where I have lived, you typically don't see a group of gay and straight men just hangin out. Furthermore, a lot of straight men will joke around and call each other "gay" or "f*g" like they use "pvssy" or "sissy" and I think just about every straight man has been guilty of this. That has to suck for gay dudes, closeted or otherwise, who hear that. But it doesn't mean straight dudes hate gay people any more than it means they hate women when one of them called himself "Sally" when he leaves a putt short or whatever. Gay men DO tend to be more effeminate, so while offensive, I can see why straight men razz each other like that...prob been this way since the beginning of time.

I never said that gays have a monopoly on trauma. So not sure why it's even necessary to say that.

It is a unique trauma, though. Other minorities are born in a group of their own. A black child with a black parent, Muslim daughter with Muslim parents, etc.

A gay child is usually gay by himself/herself. Most often with parents that do not want that child to be gay. That leads to isolation, fear, anxiety, a host of other issues.

Which is why it's important to make some awareness of gay and lesbian people available around middle school and all. I do see some areas where that is too much, but they need to know that they are not alone in order to avoid a bigger struggle down the line.

I don't see why they would be offended by those comments. A crew mate of mine was gay. Me calling him a pole smoker didn't hurt his feelings anymore than him calling me a pu$$-E licker bothered me. We got along fine, hung out like any other crew member, drank, watched tv, played board games, cards, did our job.

So, with all the media focusing on the controversial stuff from Eichner, do we see better numbers this weekend? Honestly, I don't think I would have ever heard of this movie had Eichner not acted like a fool and said all that crap.

Also, who's buying the poor staff member a beer for all the overtime he/she is putting into moderating this thread? lol.

you'll be in my prayers.

maybe convince her to watch a rerun of the App State game. It is more entertaining.

Yea, I mean it's been years since I've seen avatar, but I remember it being a modern day Pocahontas so the story I still remember. Maybe the higher definition makes it look even better, I dunno

She ain't budgin on this Bros movie. Even RT wouldn't sway her and she's not usually picky on movies

My wife and I saw it opening weekend. We enjoyed it. I laughed pretty hard at some of it. Some of it probably went over my head but a whole lot of it didn't. I thought it was a nice homage to some classics too while being its own thing.

Honestly I might watch at least the start of it to check it out if it were on a streaming service I already have. I haven't been to a movie theater in probably 4 years.
