We went this weekend. There are some additions to the menu...not sure which are seasonal additions or what.
Short of that, I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about. The food's still pretty much the same. You're just not surrounded by a bunch of dusty, fake artifacts.

did you got Cracker barrel this weekend so you could make this post here? lol

No. My parents wanted to go.
SEE? THEY'RE STILL REACHING THE SAME DEMOGRAPHICS!!

while losing over 100 million in value ok bud hope you had a good dining experience.

I just don't get the outrage...even moreso after this weekend.

its similar to Bud light

So we're not upset about the actual product, just the package it comes in or who it's marketed to?
Because that's ridiculous.

You dont' really know much about marketing and brand management, do you? You really dont understand this?

Actually, I have my own PR firm, so I appreciate you bringing it up. AdWeek says that, in fiscal year 2024, Cracker Barrel reported total revenue of $3.47 billion, a modest 0.8% increase over the previous year, though net income declined by a bunch, falling from $99.1 million in fiscal 2023 to $40.9 million in fiscal 2024. These declines were brought on by tremendous slow downs in their in-store traffic. They self-reported that there were fewer people coming through the doors.

If you could point to any restaurant in the US and say "Your customer base is literally dying off", you'd do it for CB, and a 50+ percent drop in net income backs that up. Yes, your total revenue is up slightly YoY, but there was also an extra week in fiscal 2024.

The MO in the restaurant biz is grow or die, and that is especially true in this economy, with people...and especially Seniors...eating out considerably less. They needed a re-brand. As I mentioned, from what I gathered from actually eating there over the weekend, the menu is largely unchanged and there's still a retail component for all the stuff you never knew you needed. The only real difference is that the walls aren't OD green any more and they removed all that crap that was hanging on the walls. And if that's so ****ing important, I wonder why more people don't eat in their garage?

You're actually making the point. You're telling people what they should like and not like. Apparently the existing customer base did like how they were decorated and had an affinity for the old logo. You're basically telling them they're stupid for doing so. Just by looking at the CEO I can hear her saying the exact same thing.

I don't really care. I don't think I've been in a CB in more than 20 years. I'm also not in marketing or the restaurant business so I have absolutely no idea on how to address the problem of a declining customer base due to age. But my first guess would be to not alienate them. You don't get to decide what they like, don't like, or why.

What would your business plan be if your business lost 50% in net income over the span of a year? If your answer is "keep on keeping on", you won't be here a year from now.

They're trying to reach out and tap in to new demos, because the numbers say G-maw and Pappy aren't turning up like they used to.

the plan should have been to get back to cooking good food. Their quality has nose dived in the last few years. As usual with mba corporate types they cost cut their way out of business

Yep, makes no sense to spend $700m to redecorate when the consumer base wants a top tier chicken fried steak that's not from a Sysco truck.

Better quality food is going to have to be part of it too, but you gotta get 'em in the doors first.

I already stated I'm not in marketing nor the restaurant industry. But for starters I would have a very keen feel for the existing base. My guess is they're mostly white, middle age to elderly, middle class economically. Likely Republican, resistant to change, and really don't like to be lectured to, especially by elitist types. So,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,don't piss that group off.

I don't even think what they did was "woke". It was ill advised. Wall Street agreed.

I'm not sure how rebranding gets people in the door. We go to CB a couple of times a year. The food isn't bad, per se. But it's not good either. My teenage daughters like so we'll eat there occaisonally, but we go less frequently now. I used to really like the place, but as others have mentioned, the food has gone down hill.

You could try specials for families with young kids like other places do and improve the quality of the food. I'm just not convinced you need a total rebrand.

ETA: I don't care about the logo. I don't like the new one but I don't pick where I eat based on branding. I choose by whether I like to food or not. I've eaten at some real dives, but the food was good enough to bring me back.

I will say, this last week is either going to save CB or kill it.

Cracker Barrel admits it 'could've done a better job' after new logo backlash.

"If the last few days have shown us anything, it's how deeply people care about Cracker Barrel. We're truly grateful for your heartfelt voices," the company said. "You've also shown us that we could've done a better job sharing who we are and who we'll always be."

The company said what has not and "will never change" are the values Cracker Barrel was built on when the Lebanon, Tennessee-based chain first opened in 1969.

I wonder if the changes are going to expand their base? I have a 29 year old daughter. Growing up, CB was someplace she always wanted to eat when we were traveling, so we made at least one stop on all of our trips. Food was ok. Service was decent. Daughter loved exploring all the items for sale. It was a family tradition. Our last time was about 10 years ago and it was awful, both food and service so we haven't been in years. She has three children who she probably would have introduced as I did her because of the memories. But if it is no longer close to the same, she won't be expanding the base with her children.

"A better job," "Never change"? Nonsense.

Cracker Barrel has been woke for well over a decade as discussed by Robby Starbuck (video also posted by EclipseAg on page 11 if you missed it)

Some points from the description:
Quote:

Cracker Barrel has funded "all ages" Pride events for many years like Nashville Pride and Third River City Pride.

Cracker Barrel worked with the far left HRC organization and reportedly sponsored HRC events for 10 years. They even brought an HRC representative to their Tennessee HQ to do a pronoun and transgenderism training. We've included photos of this in the video. As a reminder, the HRC supports child sex changes and men in women's bathrooms. They work to normalize/legalize those things and they work to force transgenderism into the workplace.

Cracker Barrel was awarded Out & Equal's 2018 top LGBT ERG group award and they won the Nashville LGBT Chamber of Commerce "Corporate Diversity" award.

That's what these people don't understand about the Barrel.

She's a 5 with some substance abuse problems but she's there for you when you need her.

And that's the appeal of Cracker Barrel as your old reliable.

For example, you been up and on the road since 4am and you got a choice between a blown out Flying J restroom with an integrated Denny's and a Cracker Barrel .4 miles down the exit

You'll say thank god there's a Cracker Barrel! and you'll pull up into that barrel and you'll be happy about it.

Sometimes the barrel is your least worst option, but everybody leaves with a smile on their face.
