LOL. Women eating their own because of jealousy. A story as old as time. Instead of embracing some new found popularity, they have to tear down the new superstar.

Also LOL at the race angle. Great job injecting it yet again race baiters.
I had a prof in college who was either the first or second (can't quite remember) female sportswriter at the DMN. She always talked about how her biggest detractors weren't men or male readers but other women. She said her male coworkers and athletes were always super professional and helped her build a career. The women were the ones who kept trying to bring her down.

Spot on. The average American has more in common with Catholic, basic ass Caitlin Clark than a black lgtbtq athlete. Those are the facts.

One nitpick, she isn't generational at the next level. Her size and comparative athletic ability will bare it out. Volume shooter.

I yet again contend and will forever hold the belief that RGIII and Griner are one and the same.

The Fever are not a good team. I haven't seen any WNBA player shoot off the dribble like she's been doing since college. The players she's passing to have never played with someone who can set them up for baskets like she does.

Jason Kidd is one of the greatest point guards of all time, when he passes the ball to you that means you shoot the ball. Clark's teammates haven't gotten the hint yet.

She has been picked up man to man between 1/2 to full court in every game she's played this WNBA season. There isn't another player in the entire WNBA that they do that to. It isn't because they want to show her up, it's because she is that good.

Sure, her being white and more conventionally attractive than the vast majority of women's basketball players has something to do with her popularity.

So what? Every player in the WNBA should be thrilled about the attention. When your league is an afterthought, any publicity is good publicity.

Think back to the late 1970s: pro basketball was a fringe sport with the NBA in significant financial difficulty. The Bird-Magic rivalry brought the league an explosion of popularity, and the white: black/East Coast: West Coast nature of that rivalry had a lot to do with fan interest. Those years led directly to the Jordan era and the subsequent massive salaries that brought generational wealth to scores of black players from the US.

Now basketball is a truly international game whose best players are from places like Serbia, Cameroon, Canada and freaking France.

This really is a rising tide lifts all boats kind of situation.

Larry, of course, was very aware of the racial angle and had fun with it.'

He was notorious for brutal trash talk against any team that dared to try to guard him with a white player.

Women, in general, are vicious creatures that outwardly have the "i am woman hear me roar!" and "you go girl!" facade, but behind that they will connive and scheme and cut each other's throats in a heartbeat in order to get ahead.

You see it all the time, starting in junior high and it never stops really. I assume its some repressive genetics deep within our DNA that drives this - for them to do what it takes to be the chosen one and to survive.

Also - and this shouldn't come as a shock, but somehow it does - everybody prefers to watch a somewhat attractive and above woman do things versus somebody that is just off putting to look at. That is human nature. Women are exactly the same - they would rather see an attractive woman peform versus an ugly one, in any venue. We are wired that way.

You have this:

vs. this:

And, frankly, Caitlin isn't a supermodel or anything approaching that. She's a 6 or so on a good day if we are being honest. But in the perspective of the WNBA, she's one of the handful of players that isn't a 3, doesn't seem to hate everything about life, and isn't a raging lezbian that thinks anybody that isn't a ragind dyke is a racist POS that shouldn't breathe.

The WNBA could probably market Angel Reese as much as Caitlin, but Angel has a very off-putting vibe about her on the court from the very little I've seen, and that affects perception right or wrong.

Yes this does have something to do with it. Same reason Tim Tebow and Johnny Manziel blew up nationally. They were electric must see TV because they were athletic white guys dominating a sport with a lot of blacks and they had appeal to middle America.

There is no point in denying this.

The fact is people associate with people who look like them. It's how we are made and built. This has been the norm for all of human history.

That's rational thinking. You will be called a racist for showing your white privilege.

Technically, though, if she were hispanic or asian, she'd probably be just as popular - maybe more.

The WNBA is full of oafish, graceless, mannish lesbians. Who tf wants to watch that? They finally get someone that attracts eyeballs and just like typical women, they're petty and jealous.

She's popular because she's good. So of course the leftist media and the Democrats have to make it about race. They're just pissed that she's not black. Let's be honest about it.

This is where we are in 2024.

This is the Democrats America.

This must change.

The intrigue around Caitlin Clark is the same intrigue everyone had when Steph Curry took the league by storm. No other woman plays like her...period. And it is super fun to watch because she pulls up for shots that you would never expect her (or literally any other female player in the world) to take. She makes great passes that very few women can make. She isn't super tall or crazy athletic...she has just worked very hard to fine tune some of the most important (and flashy) skills on a basketball court...shooting and passing. Griner isn't fun or flashy to watch. Same with most other top female players. Sabrina Ionescu got a ton of attention too and went 1st overall because her game was very well rounded...she is fun to watch but still a tier down. She was a career 18 ppg scorer in college with fewer assists than Clark. Caitlin over a 4 year period averaged almost 30 points, over 8 assists, over 7 rebounds, and a couple of steals per game...and shot 46% from the field and 86% from the line. She is an exceptional and generational talent. And an intense competitor.

I am not shocked that race is being brought up but it seems crazy to me in the basketball world. Jordan, Magic, Lebron, Kobe, Steph, etc. are all beloved NBA guys. It isn't as if the world won't embrace a black basketball player. Likewise, people appreciate Bird, Dirk, Luka, and Jokic's greatness too...not because they are white but because they are incredible basketball players.

It would be one thing if there was literally a single WNBA player like Clark...but there just isn't. She is making everyone in that league more money and the other women should be thankful for the eyeballs she bringing to the women's game. But jealousy and envy are ruling the day right now!

Take the win WNBA. This is just about the best shot you're going to get that your league ever becomes profitable. In reality, people will lose interest in another month or two and it will be back to status quo.

Charismatic is a funny thing and it's different for men and women. Appealing to both is even more difficult. One of many, many, problems for the WNBA is that the body type and skill set that makes for a successful WNBA player is not the same that appeals to the population as a whole. No one is buying makeup from someone that looks like Dick Butkus. Caitlin Clark is an outlier there. She's the first WNBA player that I've thought could be generally marketable since Candace Parker. Of course Candace Parker stopped caring about appearances and decided she was a lesbian, so that didn't help.
