What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Put Hillary's ass behind bars first otherwise you're suggesting two tiers of justice.

Do it. You can even throw Bill in there for his relationship with Epstein. The two of them and Trump can all be cell buddies.
Can you show me where Trump was in this chat?

Unfortunately, this thread proves it. Without screenshots, none of the posters here would have believed it. The state of politics today. If it isn't from your news source, it is fake news. Either way.

None? I think nearly everyone believed it (including me, and I haven't seen screen shots)

I think the debate has centered around:

1. whether the journalists actions where ethical/professional
2. if the officials should have used signal
3. How big of a deal this is (ie. size of consequence).

But I think at the very least, most on here believed it and recognize it was a dumb mistake that shouldn't have happened.

Unless it was planted on purpose? European leaders don't really seem to be taking Trump seriously about taking care of their own back yard and stop relying on the US to do it. The Suez Canal is far more important to European trade than US trade. We keep sea lanes open and not a conflict zone, there is a price for that.

Have no idea just throwing that out there.

Surely there are better ways of planting information than...well...this.

Quote I stole from elsewhere but spot on. This board and it's ability to goalkeep for their favorite players and bend reality to make their worldviews continue to work is absolutely insane now. Now some are trying to say they planned this and wanted it to get leaked to spread a message?! Good Lord....

This is such gross incompetence and a slap to the face to anyone who has held a clearance or served and understand the importance of constant OPSEC. The whataboutisms here are peak cringe. Hegseth et al. ****ed up and they ****ed up REAL bad. Period. And they have now doubled down with what everyone calls the classic liberal tactic here. Deny, Lie, Attack the Messenger, Run Away, Hope everyone forgets.

Can't believe this thread is several hundred responses deep.

Or to put this fiasco another way. Imagine spending millions of dollars to secure a facility with a high fence, guard towers, sensor, alarms, etc. But someone leaves the backdoor unlocked so a buddy can get in.

Poll for those who have held at least a TS…who thinks just the released screenshots we have seen are at least CONFIDENTIAL if not SECRET? I would say actual targeting information would take it to TS depending on how detailed.

This. Trump could perform an abortion on live television and half this board would compliment how deftly he moved his hands during the procedure. Politics for some is nothing but sports, and this thread/board proves it (as does Reddit for the other "team.").

Speaking as someone with no security clearance or military background I'm going out on a limb and say letting a journalist know approximately when and where we are going to drop bombs before you drop them is bad and probably should never happen.

I agree but at the same time to be honest, the whole "we are better people than them and should do the right thing" concept where only Republican Administrations get it right while the left gets to do the shady bs with no repercussions is a pathway to being completely conquered by the left. Not much different than a republican who will sit at home and not vote bc their perfect candidate didn't get the nomination while the left all lines up in unison to vote for their candidate. If only one side ever does the right thing in politics that side doing it right is going to get steamrolled.

Yes, I'm not referring to the journalist being there. There is a claim that there was no classified information in the thread. From my experience, I'm looking at classified information, even without seeing the targeting information. At least SECRET is my view.

On Halperin's show this morning, Halperin admitted he had been inadvertently added to chats before and that the second he knew he wasn't supposed to be there, he'd pull out letting the others know that. So it is apparently not unheard of for reporters being privy to things by accident.

Still a very bad look and a major oopsie that will hopefully be addressed immediately so it doesn't happen again.

Halperin is missing the forest for the trees, like many here.

The fact they are using Signal at all is a major breach of security and law, to skirt FOIA et al. The "oopsie" of adding the Editor-in-Chief of The Atlantic, Jeffrey Goldberg, to the Signal chat is just because he shared the initials of cabinet member Jamieson Greer but our National Security Advisor is incompetent.

I think what he is saying is that it's not a major trade route for the US, but I believe there is indirect consequence for certain materials that US markets rely on.

Had to ask ChatGPT

Goods shipped through the Red Sea that are relevant to the U.S. include:

1. **Oil and Energy Products**: Around 12% of global seaborne oil and 8% of global liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade pass through the Red Sea. Any disruption in these shipments can impact global oil prices, indirectly affecting U.S. energy markets20.

2. **Automobiles and Raw Materials**: Manufactured goods, including automobiles and various raw materials, commonly use the Red Sea route to travel from Asia to Europe and the U.S. Disruptions in this supply chain can affect the availability and pricing of these products20.

3. **Electronics and Machinery**: China to the U.S. and Europe shipping routes are significantly impacted, which includes electronics and machinery. Shipping times have increased by up to 47% to the U.S. East Coast and 33% to Europe19.

4. **Agricultural Products**: The Red Sea is a critical route for global grain trade, with around 8% of global grain shipments passing through. This could have implications for the U.S. food supply chain depending on the specific commodities and origins20.

5. **Alcoholic Beverages**: The wine, beer, and spirits industries have been particularly affected due to longer transit times required for rerouting around the Cape of Good Hope, impacting freshness and quality17.

Primarily for Europe, yes. Hostilities in shipping lanes can rattle markets, even if it's not directly impacting our shipping. The reports I've read say the Houthis were also harassing US military targets as well, so Trump ordered a strike.

The Houthis are disrupting shipping lanes, essentially shutting down the Suez Canal as a viable transportation path. Now products have to take a much longer trip around Africa which adds time and cost.

This is damaging to the US economy.

Getting the Houthis to stop disrupting shipping is the goal.

Staggering?

Lolz. Staggering is blaming a preacher for burning a Koran when you ignored intelligence about the threat to your own ambassador. That is staggering.

This was stupid and a price should be paid, but staggering.

This is why the left always loses in the end.

"Michael Waltz has learned a lesson, and he's a good man," Trump told NBC News in a phone call when asked if he still had confidence in his top national security aide.

Asked how Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor in chief of The Atlantic, came to be included in a text thread that included Vice President JD Vance and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Trump blamed a lower-level staffer.

"It was one of Michael's people on the phone."

That is exactly Vance's point. This disproportionately benefits Europe. Like it or not, we have sent a clear message that Europe needs to pull its own weight. This is in direct conflict with that philosophy. Also Saudi Arabia spent the better part of a decade bombing the Houthi's with the best weapons the US could provide. Despite an overwhelming military advantage they eventually gave up because the PR blow back from bombing civilians was too much and they were basically losing to an insurgency. So we dropped some bombs, now what?

There is a part about timing, President has given the green light, etc. The fact that you are considering a strike on an enemy in the near time horizon is typically classified.
