Why do stocks fall when oil goes high? Wouldn't that make energy stocks go up?

I would think because people spend more money on gas in order to live. Add in extra fuel cost to transport consumer goods. This means less money spent on consumer goods and therefore people don't buy stuff they don't need.

Energy is only about 2% of the S&P. Oil affects the cost of almost every industry shrinking their margins and squeezing the wallet of Americans resulting in lower sales on top of higher operating costs.

Oil and gas producer stocks are going up a lot and are one of the few bright spots in the S&P. Other commodities like fertilizer as well because a lot of ammonia/urea goes though the Strait of Hormuz.

This maybe a dumb thought but I'm curious if it's worth it now to build a canal through that piece that sticks out. Would be further from Iran and you could set up defensive batteries etc.

Because barring an immediate collapse of the price of oil back to $65, it means next month's CPI and PPI release are going to show YOY hot inflation readings. Plot every month in history 12 months ahead and read the tape. You will always know where PPI and CPI will come in by this chart.

There has been talk about a canal but it's kind of unrealistic.

And the Trans Arabia Pipeline didn't fare as well as the Trans Alaska Pipeline.

Have a watch of the King Salman Canal.
