Gas going down slowly....down to $3.539 by me.

Why does it shoot up, sometimes in just a few hours or overnight, only to come down slowly....over weeks?

Taking full advantage of normal human behavior. Something bad happens, you react then accept it. Once you have accepted it, their incentive is to milk that petro teat to the last drop and 9/10s penny.

No one is going to let Iran have a nuke.

No one.

Well, I guess if Democrats take back over they may.

Tl;dr if you want a nuclear free Iran, under no circumstances should you vote for a Democrat. Pretty clear at this point.

They never let a good crisis go to waste.

I do like that, even though prices are still over a dollar per gallon in the LBK, that even the US starting a war in the ME doesn't mean prices have to go higher.

It makes one wonder if they ever really did, or if they only went that high because they wanted to milk every last drop they could.

Regardless, prices going down while our military is ramping up for even more invasive action, just shows just how well off we are.

Gas stations operate on relatively low profit margins. The price you see is the replacement cost of fuel. You aren't paying for what they already bought that you are putting in your tank. You are paying for the replacement cost of the expected price of the next batch. Prices are adjusted as markets fluctuate. Of course it's not uncommon for everyone in the area to be priced similarly. We do the same with our local business. Even if our costs stay the same, if 7 of our competitors go up in price, we'll match it because it improves the profit margins and customers aren't going to go anywhere else since those prices are similar.

But for gas stations it's mostly the first reason.

yesterday in Thurmont Maryland I spent $3.93 on a gallon of gas.

Thanks President Trump!

Especially with credit card fees. It's also why the big price difference between independents, especially Indian owned like GAMA and the big chains. They are able to get better deals on the fees (compared to independents) and many are willing to take less to drive business inside.

Gas is not a profit driver, especially for the Independents

Very true.

When I worked at a convenience station as a kid, the manager always said that the money that paid my paycheck came from what customers bought in the store, not from what was sold at the pump.

Not banging on Trump because I support what he's doing in Iran, but the thing he better watch out for is the price of diesel.

At $5.00 plus per gallon in most places, it will start to have a big impact on the price of goods because whether it is a petroleum based product or not, everything gets shipped, and transportation costs are starting to shoot up. Fuel surcharges are becoming a thing again, and it all gets passed along to the consumer. If this is short term then no problem. But if it goes on for long, consumers will feel it a lot more than just at the pump.

We are at $5 diesel up here in NW Colorado and with a 3/4 ton truck(22mpg), my 120 mile commute gets expensive fast. I am riding my Harley to work until the price comes back down. Went to Grand Junction Saturday and saw most stations there were $5.50

We're at 5/gallon in Austin as well.

Half a tank cost me about 100 bucks

Yeah, I paid $120 to fill up my pickup yesterday. Haven't seen that in a while. My company operates multiple large semi-type trucks, and at this price a complete fill up is about eight hundred to a thousand dollars. At some point, you have to pass that cost along to the consumer.

Taking full advantage of normal human behavior. Something bad happens, you react then accept it. Once you have accepted it, their incentive is to milk that petro teat to the last drop and 9/10s penny.

Side tangent but when they hell are they going to do away with the 9/10 penny nonsense. We already removed the penny from distribution but we still have the 9/10 nonsense.

Regular Unleaded at Dallas Costco finally edged back a bit from $3.57 to $3.52 overnight. First decrease there since the conflict started.

Costco is not what I would call uniform in their prices:

Katy Premium $3.89
Woodlands $4.36
Galleria $4.29
Willowbrook $3.99.

I use the Upside App & I can find Circle K Premium prices that beat Costco. Just a matter of location & needs at that time.

Costco is far and away the least expensive gas in the Sugarland area by a large amount. Buccee's comes close sometimes, but never as cheap as Costco. It's currently down to $3.35.

Had a talk with a client today about how if diesel stays above $5 / gal his company is going to start getting squeezed hard. He was worried about fuel charges added to all shipping orders and an inability to pass that on to his clients.

Will be interest to see how Trump handles this if it starts to effect the economy in a big(ly) way

Trump jawboning the price is have less and less effect. Prices need to go higher to meet physical realities and frankly the longer prices are artificially depressed at these levels, the higher price will need to go. I don't think you'll see the depth of the physical impacts of what's going on until June - even if the conflict ended today. We will need to price to serious global demand destruction during peak global demand. The fact that refined products are outpacing crude oil also tells you there's nowhere to go but much higher.

Not busting on you in the least. But, this sounds reminiscent of posts we'd see around Covid.

As I understand it, the gulf states are restricting damage videos from coming out. If that's true, I'm not saying it is, there could already be significant damage that we will feel in the coming months.

No going back now.

If he is a legitimate company, he won't have any trouble passing it on to the customer as he should because all of his competitors will be doing the same.
