What was Ferrari thinking with this car? Did they do any market research before developing a $650k electric car?

People that want a Ferrari want a sleek, fast, loud car that only an ICE can provide. Instead they launch an ugly electric car that is silent and costs almost $700,000.

I would have said the same thing about Porsche before they started making SUVs.

I was VERY surprised Porsche not only had the guts to make an SUV, but that it does so well.

That being said, this "Ferrari" is along the lines of Cyber Truck Fugly, without the nerd and maga fanboys creaming themselves to own one so they can "own" the other side.

Ain't no one buying this monstrosity to own anything other than themselves.

You honestly think MAGA dudes are buying a $125k truck to own the Libs?

I wouldn't say Porsche did it 'well' really, they had to shelve their battery plans because their production costs were just non-competitive. Audi (same company, different badge) rationally at least saw their market selling EV's to soccer moms that look identical to their non-EV ones that have dominated that market (Q5/SQ5/Q7 etc.)

Over the last 20 or so years Porsche seems to have sold a whole bunch of gas-powered SUVs.

I once saw a Cayenne that was red with black trim and wheels, thought it looked pretty sharp. But still, I think it is an abomination to put that nameplate on an SUV.

Isn't a Porsche Cayenne just a souped up VW Touareg?

Yes, they were developed together. As far as SUVs go, I think the Cayenne is pretty cool. Would never pay for one.

Yeah, and my wife still wants a Cayenne, which I really don't want to deal with. I think the original/2nd gen Tuareg is what you are referring to, not whatever they are selling now (at one point it was built in Slovakia, now Q5's from Mexico?).

The Q7/Q5 etc. share a lot of DNA I think, but I haven't kept up with the E-tron etc. I think the baby Q3 and Porsche's version are basically also on the Golf platform (macan had a tiguan 4-banger engine), but again haven't kept up. The next generation of the Golf is supposed to be EV-only, but we will see if that holds.
