Another factor people miss is that EV's have little to no maintenance costs other than tires and wipe fluid. That adds up when considering replacement costs compared to ICE vehicles.

If all they need is wiper fluid and tires, then why the hell would one need an 8yr/120k mi warranty I order to sell the car?

They don't. Federal law dictates all EV's carry an 8 year battery warranty.

Teslas are the VW beetles of today. Homely but efficient in certain situations.

How many EV city buses work?

Literally tens of thousands. Schengen China fully electrified their city bus fleet.

Amazon has also converted much of their delivery fleet to EV trucks.

I don't really care if people want to buy EV's that's their prerogative, but I think the push for them under the Biden administration was just full-on ******ed.

We do not have the massive infrastructure to support that many of them. Won't have it in my lifetime, possibly in the future at some point.

I would think you'd be smarter at least buying a hybrid.

Hybrids are a like a spork. The sound nice but can't do either thing really well.

Except for you're not relying on a charge completely. You have a back up with gas on the plug-ins.

Hybrids make sense if you are sensitive to gas prices and need to do long trips and can only afford one vehicle

As GAC said this would be fine for a single vehicle family. But the sweet spot is one EV, one ICE.

Are there any EV companies besides Tesla that seem to be able to stand on their own?

I don't think so
The removal of the EV credit will help Tesla in the long run, because it pretty much makes it harder for others to compete against what is so far a great and mature product. Its why Honda simply dropped out of that market.

With also a lot of used EVs, and prices dropping, that's bad news for ICE manufacturers too. People will now be able to pay a couple of 1000 more and get an EV/Hybrid instead of ICE. The percentage of EV / Hybrid consumers that go back to ICE has got to be minimal/ negligible.

I don't know. Hyundai/Kia seems to be doing well in the EV space. Cadillac has a beautiful lineup. Possibly the only car company whose EV lineup is better looking than their IC lineup. The EV Escalade is so much better looking than the IC version I would be disappointed to have to get the IC body style. Problem with the Cadillacs is that they are very expensive.

I have an EV on the list for consideration next year when I plan to replace my current car because frankly I'm the perfect candidate. I drive less than 5k miles per year and our next house already has an EV charger in the garage. I've looked at hybrids but everyone I've looked at below $100k is god awful ugly and i wouldn't be caught dead in it.

Currently, I only have 3 models on my EV list for consideration:

Tesla Y
BMW I4
Rivian
Scout (but I assume these will be impossible to get)

I'm either going EV, V8 sports car, or 4WD. I'm all over the damn place right now. lol.

They don't need a gas backup. There are already a gazillion EV models available that have the range to easily handle an extended commute multiple times on one charge or tackle a 400-500 mile road trip with a single pitstop while you grab lunch. Oh, and this is the worst that battery tech is ever going to be.

Techno keeps posting that ev owners always say that the tech is right around the corner but it's already here. Fewer parts, less maintenance, faster acceleration, at-home fueling, far higher energy efficiency (my 70 mile commute costs about $1.50), and 350 mile range is available today. Not next year, not tomorrow, today.

Per Gemini, 14-18% of hybrids sold are plug-in. The vast majority are 100% gasoline fuel with the battery to improve mileage

What I've read that makes sense is the "extended range" EV where a gas engine keeps the battery charged similar to the way freight trains work. It's like that old meme of the Tesla towing its own generator only for real.

For the life of me I can't figure out why the anti ev crowd picked now, in the middle of a gas crisis, to crow about the superiority of ICE cars. Depending on the day's extra stops, I'm saving $8-10 literally every work day by driving an EV. Talk **** all you want, in 6 weeks my gas savings alone will cover the bill when I take your wife to a fancy steakhouse dinner.

The thread where EV sales have grown every year since you posted it and the Tesla Model Y became the best selling vehicle in the world?

Not many people do this to be fair. I have a truck for truck stuff but am seriously considering a model Y for commuting. Also I don't care to drive so would love the self driving

I hope the new International Scout makes it. Its supposed to come out in 2028. They look awesome. Can fit 35 inch tires without needing a lift. The harvester version is the one im really liking. Best of both worlds. It has the tech. Screens, software, EV drive train. And it combines that with tactile buttons and a gas engine that acts purely as a generator. Still get the torque of the EV and the extended range with the gas engine. Supposedly will get 500 mile range with the engine and 150 on just battery. And not a typical hybrid either. Gas engine is just to charge the battery.

I think there would be a big market in this country for that type of vehicle.

StereoTypes are for a reason.
Ironically i didn't know of the stereotype, when purchasing. We were going to test drive a Mustang GT.
Wife insisted we try out Tesla. I am not exaggerating. 3 minutes. And I was sold.

Told our best friends we bought a Tesla. "Of course you did".
That's when we learnt about the stereotype. It's in our blood, I guess.
I know a young Middle Eastern guy, born and raised in Houston. He bought a silver 5 Series BMW.

Later he tells me, yeah, apparently it's a stereotype.

I laughed out loud and asked him if he really didn't know that. I said, I thought that was the reason you bought it. To fit in with the crowd of guys who wear too much cologne and Adidas slides.
