Seeing the photos, knife cuts in the hypalon (or other material) sheets covering the expansion joint between the concrete slab and the perimeter granite blocks makes more sense than a knife cutting a durable hybrid polyurea coating on concrete. Not fun replacing the expansion joint material after the work is complete

If the bond between the mortar connecting the expansion joint material to the coating on the slab is stronger than the bond of the coating system to the primer, then cutting the expansion joint and yanking on it could start to pull up the coating. Just do not think a single protestor could be strong enough to yank that hard.
Coating failures in other areas could be many different things, but as said above happen on every rehab project. Expansion joints in concrete structures are my natural enemy, but a necessary evil

100% proved my point you don't know why it failed. You can't even give one example of why it failed. Yet we had a subject matter expert come onto this thread and explain why a specific section might have failed.
And what that specific section amounts to as a percentage of the entire job which was minuscule.
