Area load of 100 to 150 psf for water and maybe 150 to 200 psf for concrete. Not that heavy of a bearing pressure on the soil/foundation system.

Pretty much sums up most of the posts by the paid engagement crew members on this thread.

If it's marshy under there, that's heavy enough. I once lost a couple of tennis shoes walking in the marsh down below my grandpa's pond, and I was less than 100 lbs at the time. I sank down a good two feet in a matter of seconds.

Are you made of concrete and timber?!

I think that dispersion of load is going to play a big part in any tk response, as it should.

I don't think the wood pilings are as prone to collapse as they are more likely to move around some which would not be as much of an issue if the structure above was free to move a little with it. A half mile long concrete pond built to be monolithic then framed in place and told not to move presents issues in my contemplation, but who knows.

I was pointing out that Obama would have been wiser, in my postulating, to use concrete piers embedded (drilled into several feet) into bedrock.

Agreed.

My comment was mostly in jest, hence the smile icon.

I'm no engineer. And I don't know if it's even possible to have a huge reflecting pool in that location without having issues.

I think that last part is a a key question on the whole thing.

It was never a good idea, but that probably could be said of the entire location.

We should have done a Brasilia a long time ago.

Why are the TDS crowd concerned about this?
  • Cost? Obama spent more in trying to fix it
  • Results? Obama didn't fix it despite spending almost 3X
I'm still trying to wrap my head around the angst about trying to beautify our nation's capital in time for celebrating 250 year anniversary.

This is the sad thing.

JFC...they're SO invested in getting a Trump LOSS, that they don't give a **** about WHY this is being done - to beautify the area for our anniversary. They would rather that it looks horrible as long as they can **** on Trump.

Really sad life it must be...

I got over my TDS. Still recovering but:

1. Get off all MSM. I only listen to Bloomberg now.
2. When you hear any news, wait at least 24-48 hours to form an opinion.
3. Take all social media with a grain of salt.
4. Trump is actually hilarious.
5. Acknowledge the positive he does and realize he's never going to admit a mistake so forget that.

Somehow left leaning Bloomberg is not MSM?

And you no longer have TDS?

Beyond that, some of points make sense but are undermined by the above.

Bloomberg has brief snippets of news, because they want to get back to the financial world. Just headlines and not 4 hour coverage of the stupid reflecting pool or whatever the stupid issue of the day is.

Bloomberg viewers will stop & frisk you in the interest of public safety but still want to confiscate your firearms and jail you for possessing them...in the interest of public safety. It is Dichotomtus Democratus.

I just listen to the satellite feed in the car on the way to/from work. I don't watch any TV, unless the wife has the TV on and it's usually Friends or How I Met Your Mother reruns or some movie.

"Bloomberg has brief snippets of news, because they want to get back to the financial world. Just headlines and not 4 hour coverage of the stupid reflecting pool or whatever the stupid issue of the day is."

Bloomberg's coverage of economics, the markets, finance and the business world is exceptional. Politically, it's a left-wing echo chamber and they routinely expand on that throughout the day.

OK so he missed the length of damage by 10'. Pretty solid estimate.

You won't even have those who said Trump made it all up admit they are wrong.

Spiteful people will always blame the donut for them being fat and never their choice to eat the donut. The Hate America Party and their ilk had plenty of information SUPPORTING what Trump was saying and went with his sloven bubbler guy as the reason for failure and of course Orange Man Bad.
