The problem is this....

Players Jerry considers "really special":
Joey Galloway
Roy Williams
Amari Cooper
Brandon Carr

The safest bet is to save those 1st rounders for the draft. BUT... it does give us flexibility to start using 2nd, 3rd, 4th rounders for "really special" vet players.

Maybe they can trade them for Michael Parson. I hear he's pretty good

Will the Boys entertain Sellers, Nuss, or Mendoza if they are available with the #1 pick?

You don't draft a QB #1 to have him sit on the bench for at least two years.

The earliest you can cut Dak and not take a huge cap hit is 2027.

I'm not calling for Dak to be released. I've hate on him in the past but only because he's an easy target. He's pretty low on the list as to what is wrong with this team.

Green Bay did this with Aaron Rogers and Jordan Love. They're a pretty good / better organization. I'm not hating on Dak. I just think he has 1-2 years left at best if we're going to be any good. If you see the next Aaron Rogers in the draft, you grab him. I don't know if any of these qbs are that good. Just throwing it out. We're gonna have a pretty high draft pick for probably a couple years.
How'd it workout for Minnesota and JJ McCarthy or Atlanta and Michael Penix?

Yeah, drafting QBs is mostly luck. I don't have a problem drafting a "Dak replacement" QB, but it needs to be a guy that falls to us, not one that we have to sacrifice multiple 1st rounders for.

It's also the reason why we need to try and put a team around Dak if possible. It could be 10-20 years before we luck into a QB the way we did with Romo & Dak.

Hearing that Lamb could be out 3-4 weeks which isn't surprising to me. I know there was talk after the game that it wasn't a big deal... but if he was unable to make a full speed cut on it in the game on Sunday, it's a legit injury and those take weeks to heal, not days.

I am not a huge fan of drafting a QB in uncertain circumstances, which is what Minnesota did, Atlanta, what NY is doing now etc. I have no problem with using significant draft capital on a QB as long as you go get a guy who has significant physical upside and you have a clear plan of development for that player and succession for your incumbent QB.

For instance; say Sellers and Arch stay in school one more year and absolutely ball out next year, show their physical gifts and so on and so forth. They really show they are ready for the NFL. I have no problem unloading multiple ones, twos etc. to go up and get them under the notion that they will sit one year, learn the NFL, the offense and soak it all in. Then come the fall of 2028 (sounds stupid saying that number lol), Dak is cut and Sellers and Arch are without a doubt the Cowboys guy. That situation I have no problem with. In fact I think that's one of the most preferred methods of integrating a QB in the NFL unless they are Andrew Luck. It just doesn't happen because almost all of the time teams drafting that high typically need a QB more than they need power to the stadium.

The Cowboys have a real opportunity to go from strength to strength at QB if they play their cards right, imo.

I wonder what NFL teams are thinking of Maiava. Watched him a little bit the other night and he can make a lot of difficult throws in to tight windows. Also has the requisite mobility for the modern game.

He has more eligibility after this year, but I wonder if he comes out and is available in the second or third round.

Yep, I agree and appreciate pretty much all that you had to say. Specifically, yes, I think we have '25 & '26 to see what we can do with Dak because the salary cap says he's not going anywhere. At that point we will go into the '27 draft with lots of draft picks and options.

With that thought in mind, I'm fine if we get really creative with our '26 1st rounders and parlay them into more picks. For example, what if we end up with a top 5 pick in this draft. If there is a team willing to give us next years #1 to move up 10 spots, I'm taking that deal. We'd still have two 1st rounders this year, but we'd now have 3 for the '27 draft.

My point is, I don't think we go "all in" right now... we have 2 years of #1's to leverage from this Micah trade so let's see how far we can make it stretch.

And the Niners just lost Bosa for the year. They are getting obliterated with injuries worse than we are.

We might be one of a few teams fighting for a top 10 draft pick who have no business drafting top 10. But here we are, going into week 4, and I'm already OK tanking for better draft picks!

Dak is playing in his 10th season. He played every game his first 4 seasons. He's been able to finish 2 seasons since then. This season is a complete wash. It's over. Why even play Dak? If we had somebody to groom, we could do that. Instead we have what is probably a career backup behind Dak who will probably never play. We got lucky with Dak because we had all the pieces when we drafted him - basically Brock Purdy. We drafted Dak to take over after Romo around the same time in Romo's career as Dak's right now.

Cowboys have drafted 2 qbs since drafting Dak. In that same span, Philly has drafted 5, San Fran 5, and Green Bay 4.
Cowboys have gone out and wasted draft picks on Lance and Milton. Milton was a 6th round pick for a reason. He's probably a better pro WR than a QB.

And yes, qb is a lotta luck. Many skill positions are. Look at Jeanty. How many people on here wanted us to take him in the first round. He doesn't look like much in the NFL so far. He might be great one day. Same goes for these young qbs that have not played much.

I never said go and use the first round pick on a qb because "we have to". I said if we see an Aaron Rogers-type guy, grab him. No idea if that person is in the next draft. My point is that we have to address it at some point and Dak is certainly not getting any younger. It would be great if we had a legit contender to groom like some of these organizations know how to do rather than lucking out with Romo, Dak, etc.

It's ashame we traded so many draft picks since we will picking so high.

Also, Booker will be out for a month now.

I would argue that the cowboys deserve to be top 10 in the draft. The niners are just banged up

Just listened to Todd McShay's show, and his top QBs right now are:

1) Nussmeier (thinks he's one of the best cerebral QBs he's seen since Andrew Luck)
2) Sellers (is beyond adamant he wants and needs another year of college for the best outcome for this football career)
3) Mateer
4) Beck
5) Mendoza

Then everyone else he's either adamant needs more time to bake in college or flat out just doesn't like like Allar.

Jerry even said we could get up to 6 good players out of that trade, so it seems like he's thinking the same way.

Dak is 30 and in incredible shape. There is no reason to be wasting any time or resources ona QB.

Let's spend our time trying to figure out how to injure as many Packer players as possible this week.

I agree with this part.

Dak would be one hell of a mentor for a couple years....then let him coach the qbs.

Lions prove that you can scheme a good defense regardless of the players. If they can give effort you can make it work.

The Ravens defense might join Dallas as the worst in the league. They are putrid. Gave up 38 tonight, a gazillion to Buffalo in week one, 426 total and 224 on the ground. Yeesh.

I find it refreshing how reasonable everyone is being as we discuss the fall of the '25 Cowboys....

It's amazing how jolly we are as long as the Aggies are winning!

I don't think many of us had big expectations for them this year. It helps when you expect to be bad.

The Ags beating ND def helps!

I definitely didn't think the defense would be this awful. Knew they wouldn't be good by any means, but not historically terrible through three weeks.

True. I didn't expect them to be at the bottom of the league. More middle of the road.

I've already picked Green Bay in my elimination game for this week. Ironically, many people were ousted cause on the Browns besting them last week.
