I think they'll stick with him like they did in the Mike Nolan disaster. Part of the issue is that 2-3 of the most logical assistants to step up as interim DC are his guys that were with him in Chicago. They went all-in on this ill-fitting system

Do y'all really think this is only a scheme doesn't fit the players issue? It's hard for me to believe that eberflus is this bad. He had some good defenses prior

Multiple statements from the defensive personnel basically begging for man coverage kind of makes me feel like they never really bought in and tried to learn the new scheme.

Not saying this scheme should have us top 10 in D but we shouldn't be this freaking terrible.

The biggest part of it is lack of talent overall. Secondary is what little they do have doesn't fit. Sure, lack of buy-in may be exacerbating it. I think it's all of those things

I remember there was a 3rd and 8ish where Diggs was playing 11-12 yards off and just allowed an out to be completed right at the sticks. It was directly in front of Eberflus who went absolutely ballistic. That screams there is an issue between the coach and the players. Could be communication or personal, but there is some underlying issue that is playing out on the field.

I agree I think in the front seven it's a talent and depth issue, and in the backend it's largely communication and understanding what in the hell they are supposed to be doing.

We just have way too many instances during a game where dudes are open by 10 yards, and that just doesn't happen at this level unless the guys on the field are massively confused.

seems like if you know your players cant play zone, maybe dont play it

Example of asking a bad LB crew to do too much. On the critical 4th and 3 when everyone flipped out because of the cushion; the real problem is the design is for LB Murray - who is not good - to drop into coverage and cut across to cover the passing lane for slant underneath. Problem is his footwork at the beginning isn't right and he's therefore slow getting to the passing lane.

Know your personnel and its limits.

Agreed. Step 1 of the offseason is to get a new D coordinator and then let him go to work getting his type of guys in free agency and the draft.

I would not be opposed at all going defense with our two #1s and the 2nd as well.

You know this, and we all know this, but the sad thing is our general manager probably isn't thinking this way. I sincerely hope Jerry doesn't blow the extra draft capital from the Micah trade on some defensive players at the deadline because he has "a feeling" that this team is only a player or two away, because everyone except him seems to know we aren't.

Psycho year for pro football. Anything can happpen. I'm not sure this defense can be salvaged even with a new addition- which Jerry would never pay for.

I do think the cowboys upset the Redskins Sunday, 31-24

Yeah the NFL is really bizarre this year. Some truly god awful teams. Some really good but not great teams and so on.

I think injuries have really leveled the playing field in the NFL, and it feels like there's more to great players by the day. Chargers are a perfect example; they lose one all-pro caliber tackle before the season, then they lose their other all-pro caliber caliber tackle three weeks in, then they lose their stud rookie RB and pro-bowl caliber DE in basically consecutive weeks. At some point you're just going to suck because you're missing so many guys.

The stuff with Diggs has been weird for a while now. I heard over the offseason that this would be his last year with Dallas... they were apparently really upset about how he was rehabbing away from the Cowboys facility.

But, it turns out he was healthy enough to start the season so maybe things calmed down. With so many big holes to fill on D, I'm not so sure I want them to move on from Diggs. His cap number is reasonable for a starting CB.

I mentioned before but I really don't think Diggs has any desire to be here and is trying to force his way out. If he is anything like his brother, it would make sense. Some people are just ready to move every few years.
