I can only assume Atkinson thought everyone was set. Otherwise that was a bad bad bad error on his part. And I can't imagine why he thought everyone was set. Half the defenders were facing the keeper and the new keeper was rooted to his far post calling out instructions. Hell, the free kick was basically rolled into the net.joemeister said:

I don't think it was a goof. I think he got frustrated with Liverpool for how long they were taking. He never showed his displeasure or gave a warning as far as I could tell, he just waited (impatiently) behind the freekick taker. I think the opposition was probably voicing their displeasure and he told them they could take it as soon as he blew his whistle. At some point he decided liverpool had enough time and just blew the whistle while running away from the play.mathguy86 said:
