Absolutely need a backup for Bobby that can actually play like Bobby. Origi went from transfer $$$ bait to untouchable, but he can't press like Bobby. We need someone who can start league/FA cup games that can establish a high press.
I'm keen on signing Memphis to fill that exact role.

I'm middle of the road on Memphis. I don't know that he'd want to play a role as a backup. Same with timo werner. Steve Nicol recently came out saying Nicholas Pepe isn't a Liverpool type player but I disagree. The kid would fit in well and absolutely push for playing time up front. He's also young enough to mold.

That's a tightrope we're going to have to walk this summer.

Our squad still has needs overall, and we obviously want the best possible player to fill those needs, but unless we lose someone from the Top XI... they're basically coming here for spot duty.

Players of Shaqiri's quality are about as good as one can expect to fill that type of role.

What teams would Shaqiri start on in the EPL? I think he's a damn good player and he's been one of my favorites since the 2014 World Cup so I'm very biased unfortunately.

I feel like Liverpool and City are the only teams that would have him on the bench and he needs playing time like every other player. I'm glad he decided to stay but it really pains me to see a player of his quality on the bench all the time.

Again, I'm biased but damn I miss seeing him cut inside just outside the box and hammer a shot to the opposite upper 90.

Random question.

Thinking about buying a jersey for the first time. I'm generally not jersey guy, but I'd like to get one this season for some reason.

Was thinking of getting a Carragher 23 jersey. My wife is a Carragher (no relation as best they can tell) and her dad is from Birkenhead. He was the first player I paid attention to when I started following LFC. Weird to get a current jersey with a retired player's name?

No not at all, just most people splash on a Gerard jersey these days is all.

Solid choice and it fits, dude was an old guard on the back line.

I have a few, and my ideal would be a Torres or Kuyt (edit for spelling) with the Carlsbad promo lol

If I bought a jersey I'd be tempted to put Fowler on the back since he was my favorite player growing up.

Do it if you want. You'll get plenty of compliments by Liverpool fans that see it.

I let a friend wear my grey Torres jersey for the CL final watch party and he got a lot of compliments. You throw back as far as you want, sir.

Do it! I got a Salah and Firmino jersey last year. Word to the wise...get a size larger than you normally wear. Those UK sizes are smallish!

My players got me a personalized red and gold kit a couple of years back that fits pretty tightly. I also have a Salah Egypt kit and an old away pinstriped adidas kit I love.

Someone offered to buy me a new purple kit if we won the CL final, but they ghosted me.

Torres was one of the reasons I first starting supporting Liverpool. I studied abroad in Spain in '08 and watched him all summer, including when he scored the winning goal for Spain in the Euro Cup. Took a spontaneous 2-day solo trip to Liverpool a month after and saw he and Gerrard's pictures everywhere, so I knew I liked the players at least. Got to know the city and met some good people so I was sold for life.

Pull up a YouTube video of Torres highlights at Liverpool - still can't believe some of the goals he scored. Big time reason why I started to support Liverpool

Ings was officially sold to Southampton for 20m. He played pretty well for them last year when he wasn't injured. I feel like he's one of those borderline players that could have turned into a good player if he hadn't had so many injury problems. One of the few attacking players where you never question his work rate.

That seems like a good chunk of change for him

It is, and we only bought him for 6.5M. That's a helluva return on a guy that barely ever played.

I absolutely root for Ings though. I always that he was a tough nosed player but injuries got the best of his career.

That is a helluva a turn around, but while I never question his work rate he never seemed good enough to lead the front line despite his injuries. Look or Origi dude has had is fake share of injuries and his pace isn't no where near where it was but the dude scores goals (and when they matter!!).

He's mid table quality (which is a helluva talent just not what we're looking for).

Alas my beloved Tranmere didn't have quite enough in the tank last night to take down the upstart club from north of the Mersey.

I prefer to think they're saving their legs for when they meet again at Wembley in May.

I'm hoping Ryan Kent sticks this year. I have been impressed with his game for the last few preseasons. Im also excited to see how Brewster plays. He seems to be a goal scorer.

Save the money, some of these kids could be solid contributors.

It's really cool to see the youths get some minutes. It's be great if one or two of them were good enough to fill in for a starter here and there as the season progresses.

Apparently Lallana will play a deeper "Jorginho" role this year...

Seems like the same kind of move Wijnaldum made when he first moved to Liverpool. Could be a better use of his touch/passing.

Random question I was pondering at 5am this morning trying to get my kid back to sleep.

How would Liverpool (or any of the other elite elite of European football) fare in the World Cup? Am I crazy or would that highest tier of clubs that are essentially international all star teams be able to beat a team that's just an all star team from a single nation, even Spain, Germany, England, et al?

Plus there's the benefit of year round cohesion/practice versus just playing together during International breaks.
OregonAggie

The top club teams would absolutely be odds on favorites to win the World Cup, especially some of the Real Madrid, Bayern, and Barca teams that have been put together over the years. Juve at times is in that group.

I feel that you see a lot more "high press" style club teams than national rosters because it takes a ton of practice. I've always thought that tactically, Champions League is a better watch than most World Cup games.

An article with quotes from Hendo discussing Lallana and Ox. I hope Lallana can remain healthy this year because he can really contribute. Ox is the damn man so he just needs to get up to game fitness.
