Does anyone have ESPN +? Was thinking to sign up to watch the game in the morning as well as hopefully Tranmere take down United. I don't really think I'll get a lot of use out of it. I don't have any extra time to watch any more sports.

Its the VVD effect. Both of those guys would look 1000x better playing next to Virgil. Same is true for Gomez, if you play him next to Matip or Lovren he won't look as good.

Not that I don't agree with the VVD effect but the fact that both of them have been hurt had a lot more to do with their performance today IMO.

Those two knuckleheads were our starting CBs before VVD showed up. Its hard to remember those days from this perch we hold now, but it sucked back then. One of them (almost always Lovren) was always good for 1-2 calamitous mistakes a game. They might have been coming back from injury, but it also looked like the glory days of 2016.

It's one thing to make a bad decision as a CB, it's another thing to make bad decisions when you don't have the speed to give yourself a chance at recovering. In my opinion, Gomez's pace is the biggest differentiator he has from the other two. To be fair to them, the entire back four played very poorly. Adrian actually had a pretty damn good game. That one could have easily ended up 4-1 to Shrewsbury.

It's not hard to remember those days...still doesn't change the fact that both of those guys are coming back from injury and they're going to be prone to making some mistakes. They were terrible today but putting VVD next to them wouldn't have made them any better

Not sure how many of y'all watched the game but here are a couple of my takeaways:

Salah looked great today. Scored on a PK, assisted Ox's goal, and hit the post late. We need him to step up with Mane out.

Firmino was great in link up play today, as usual.

Fabinho was rusty. He gave the ball away cheaply at least twice and one of them nearly ended up as a coal for Declan Rice. He just needs more game time.

Hendo has become one of my favorite players to watch on the squad. He's great as a 6 or as one of the more attack minded midfielders, good on the ball and a hard tackler. Dude plays with heart and I love it.

Alisson was lights out today y'all. Dude made some nice saves today.

I also loved that there was definite contact but Ox stayed on his feet to finish rather than go to ground. Considering that he scored it may seem like a no-brainer, but many players would let that play take them down.

In addition to Mo's assist and Becker's cool performance in goal, my favorite part was VVD's total one-on-one dominance of Snodgrass. It was like an adult playing against a 6 year old.
