Palace is at 27 points and only 4 points from relegation. Fortunately for them half the league is between them and relegation. There is safety in numbers.

Good question, it is always difficult to determine where to draw the line. 8 teams is honestly more than I normally put in the relegation battle, but because it is so tight this year I have had 8.
In the past I have added and subtracted teams as we move along. If Palace continues to not score they could find themselves in the middle of the battle, but there are 8 teams below them at this point so Palace is fairly safe right now.
Long and short of it is you have to draw a line somewhere. But if they continue their poor run and others pass them I will add Palace to the list.

Yeah unfortunately you're gonna have to include Palace now. 13 matches without a win, least amount of goals scored this season and fired their manager. Only 3 points away from relegation and have a worse GD than West Ham

Tough year to be Aston94. The crowd at the bottom of the table is getting big.

Yeah, looks like we will need to add Palace and make it the bottom 9. Crazy that the bottom 9 are separated by 4 points.

After this International break things are going to get serious!

12. Crystal Palace 28 27 -16

14. Leeds 27 26 -9
15. Everton (BOO!!) 28 26 -18
16. Forest 27 26 -27

--- --- --- --- ---
18. West Ham 26 24 -10
19. Bournemouth 27 24 -29
20. Southampton 28 23 -23

So close to call with 10 or so games to go. I thought Southampton and Bournemouth were goners but they keep hanging around. My prediction though is Bournemouth, Southampton, and Palace go down with Everton having a great escape on the last day beating Bournemouth with a dramatic late winner at home.

Still amazes every year how many teams have a negative goal difference. Villa and Chelsea (!!!) are not far behind at +1

I'm not sure what you mean… 10 positive/10 negative is what it ought to be in an ideal league with ideal results.

In fact, if anything, it's more likely that you'll have more in the negative than the positive because it's usually more likely that a top team can absolutely trounce a mid table team by 3+ than it is likely that a mid-table can whip a bottom-feeder by 3+. (See La Liga where 9 are positive and 11 negative).

This race is going to be fun. First time in a long time where Newcastle haven't been involved and I'm here for it!

They weren't involved last season either.

What happened to them in 16-17 that got them relegated? Every year before and after they were solid middle of the table.

That's insightful. Why did the go from 10 to 18 to winning Championship and then finishing middle of the table for 4 years.

Just playin, playa.

I don't follow Newcastle close enough to know why they sucked that year, but it wasn't their first time in 2000's to be relegated from the top flight and may not be their last.

Maybe they had some injuries in 2015-16 that impacted them significantly.

I'd say the team's purchase by the Saudi Public Investment Fund pretty much assures they won't be anytime in the near future.

Here we go! International Break is in the rear view mirror and we are ready to focus on the sprint to the end of the EPL season. Most teams have 10-11 games remaining, so full focus will be on avoiding relegation from here until the finish line. There are currently NINE clubs at the bottom of the table separated by FOUR points, something I have never seen before in following the relegation fight. So we are in for a lot of twists and turns. Selfishly, I hope 3-4 of these clubs can string together 2-3 wins here and get themselves out of the fight so we have fewer clubs to include. Nine is a lot!

This weekend features three "six-pointers", so there is the opportunity to see some real movement amongst the bottom 9 over the weekend.

Weekend's Key Relegation Matches

Saturday
Arsenal v. Leeds United (9am, Emirates Stadium, USA Network)--The Whites will travel Saturday to London to take on the high-flying Gunners, who currently sit at the top of the table, with an 8 point cushion over 2nd place City. Arsenal come into the match having won their last 6 EPL matches, outscoring their opponents 19-5 during the winning streak. Leeds, for their part, have looked better as of late, going 2-2-1 and claiming 7 points in their last 5 EPL matches. However, since Leeds return to the EPL for the 20-21 season they have yet to beat Arsenal, going 0-4-1 over that stretch against the Gunners., including a 1-0 defeat at Elland Road when the Gunners visited in October in the reverse fixture. A point would be a pretty sweet result for the Whites this weekend.

Bournemouth v Fulham (9am, Vitality Stadium, Peacock)The Cherries will welcome the Cottagers to the South Coast on Saturday, hoping to claim 3 points and pull themselves out of the bottom three. Bournemouth have claimed 6 points from their last 5, going 2-3-0 over the span, while Fulham have cooled off a bit from their torrid start, and have claimed a 2-2-1 record over their last 5. Fulham's European aspirations have been fading a bit, so the Cottagers will be keen on claiming the full three points at the Vitality, while a win for the Cherries could see them finally climb out of the bottom three.

Crystal Palace v. Leicester City (9am, Selhurst Park, Peacock)--Here's two clubs that did not anticipate being mired in a relegation battle when the season started, but yet, here we are. Both clubs have gone 0-4-1 in their last five, each claiming just a single point, which is why they both no find themselves in this spot. This will be Roy Hogdson's first match back in charge at Palace after taking over for Patrick Viera. The clubs, predictably, played to a 0-0 draw back in October at King Power, but 3 points are vital for both teams as they look to put distance between themselves and the bottom three.

Nottingham Forest v. Wolverhampton (9am, City Grounds, Peacock)This will be the second of our six pointers of the day, as the Wolves travel north to take on Forest. Both clubs have dropped their last two matches, with Forest only claiming 2 points from their last 5 (going 0-3-2) while Wolves have claimed four points over the same time period, going 1-3-1. Wolves claimed all three points in 1-0 win back in October when the clubs met at Molineaux. Three points would go a long way for both clubs, so look for both teams to really go after this one.

Sunday
West Ham v. Southampton (8am, London Stadium, USA Network). The Hammers will welcome the Saints to East London in our third crucial six-pointer of the weekend. Both clubs have claimed 5 points from their last 5 matches, both going 1-3-2 over that span. West Ham manager David Moyes has been rumored to be on the ropes, and a loss this weekend could see his departure from West Ham. Of course that rumor has been out there since January. The clubs drew 1-1 at St. Mary's back in October, and that result this weekend would likely leave both supporter groups upset, wanting more.

Monday
Everton v. Tottenham Hotspur (2:00 pm, Goodison Park, USA Network). Spurs and Everton cap off the weekend on Monday when the Blues welcome Tottenham to the northwest. Everton have not lost in their last three, claiming 5 points (1-0-2). Hard to believe Tottenham have gone 3-1-1 in their last five given the turmoil at the club, as the Spurs will begin their march without Conte at the helm and with Cristian Stellini serving as the interim manager. Tottenham will be eager to claim three points at Goodison and hold on to their Champions League position, looking to duplicate the 2-0 win the Spurs claimed over the Blues back in October at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

There will be mid-week games next week to enjoy as well, but for now, enjoy the weekend!

They will miss Tyler for sure, but fortunately for them they have McKennie now, if this had happened before January they would have been in real trouble. This will probably open up more opportunities for Aaronson as well, as he will take a more forward spot where McKennie had been playing.

In their first game without Adams, Leeds gave up 2 goals (albeit in a 4-2 win). They currently average 1.63 goals against, and if that goes up to where they are allowing 2 per game while Adams is out, you are right, they could be in trouble.

Fulham already up. Feels like Bournemouth is toast.

Aaronson and Leeds somehow holding on and getting a point vs Arsenal would be huge.

Crystal Palace had 31 shots? Am I reading that right? I don't think they had that many shots in the entire season before today. What a shambles from Leicester. They didn't have the best off-season but there's no reason for them to be in the relegation zone with the talent they have. Hopefully this ends the Brenden Rogers to Manage a Big Club nonsense once and for all.

7 points still separate 13-20.

Leeds in relegation on the live table, but have played one fewer match than a few others in the relegation neighborhood. Palace with 30 pts, Wolves with 28, and Everton with 27 - all after playing 29 matches. Leeds at 26 points after 28 matches.

Leeds have 4 of next 5 at home and 3 of those vs fellow relegation contenders: Nottingham, Palace, Leicester.

Maybe Aaronson and McKennie can help them build some cushion ahead of the final push. It's going to be tough, as they finish @ Man City, vs Newcastle, @West Ham, vs Spurs as their final four fixtures.

on the promotion side, Burnley and Sheffield United still look strong to auto-promote. 3rd spot playoff could be Middlesbrough, Luton Town, Millwall, or Blackburn Rovers. Norwich City is just outside of that group currently.

Would be happy with any of those playoff teams (although Premier League football at the Den makes me giddy ). And happy to see what the Kompany Burnley side can do against the big boys.
