on the promotion side, Burnley and Sheffield United still look strong to auto-promote. 3rd spot playoff could be Middlesbrough, Luton Town, Millwall, or Blackburn Rovers. Norwich City is just outside of that group currently.
Selfishly, I wanna see Blackburn make it. Been a good while since they were in the Prem. They are my #2 in England . Be nice to see them promoted and stick around for awhile.

I kinda wish England did it like Germany and made 3rd place in lower division play 18th in the upper in a home and home playoff tie for promotion or non-relegation.

And that this year, that would end up being Millwall and West Ham.

Mid-Week Games
Tuesday
Bournemouth v. Brighton (1:45pm, Vitality Stadium, Peacock)--Big South Coast Derby between the very perky Cherries and the high flying Seagulls. Bournemouth have pulled themselves out of the bottom three by claiming two wins in their last three over Fulham and Liverpool. Brighton are on a 4 game streak without a loss, going 2-0-2 for 8 points over the span, a streak that has them up to 6th position in the EPL. Should be a good one today.

Leeds v. Nottingham Forest (1:45pm, Elland Road, USA Network). Huge game today between these two clubs who are desperate to avoid relegation. Leeds have claimed two wins and a draw in their last 5, bust still find themselves in the relegation position, while Forest have only 2 draws from their last five, for a total of 2 points over the span. forest claimed a 1-0 win in February when the clubs met at the City Ground in what was the end of the March era for Leeds. This is one to watch for sure.

Leicester v. Aston Villa (1:45pm, King Power Stadium, Peacock). Well let's see how the post-Brendan Rodgers era goes for the Foxes. Not sure why they parted ways when they did, but good luck to the interim manager today. Villa are in great form, having gone 4-0-1 in their last five, while Leicester has only 1 point to show from their last five, going 0-4-1. Leicester look like a club going down, but we will see if a fresh voice turns things around.

Enjoy the games!!!!

Fantastic action yesterday for midweek games, really enjoyed the Leeds-Forest match. I hope both those clubs are able to stay up because the passion of their fanbases is really a wonderful addition to the EPL. The league is better with those two as a part of it.

Yesterday's results

Leeds 2-1 Nottingham Forest. Looked like Forest might really put Leeds into a downward spiral with an early goal on a lovely shot by Mangala, but Leeds' attack was relentless in the first half, continuing to come in waves. They were rewarded with a goal by Jack Harrison after Kaylar Nava could not hold onto a shot and gave up a juicy rebound right to Harrison. Leeds took the lead for good in the 45th minute by a wonderful piece of individual play by Luis Sinisterra, as he cut in from the left wing and took a shot from the edge of the box into the far corner of the goal, just past Navas' outstretched arms. Forest really did not give Leeds many troubles in the second half, failing to even register a shot on goal. Big three points for the Whites.

Bournemouth 0-2 Brighton. Disappointing result for the Cherries, who had been playing much better as of late. Brighton dominated possession (no surprise there) and took advantage of their opportunities to record a relatively easy 2-0 road win. Evan Ferguson put the visitors in the lead in the 28th minute and Julio Enciso added a second in stoppage time in the second half to remove all doubt as to who would claim the points. The Cherries registered 14 shots, but only 3 on goal, and never really looked threatening.

Leicester 1-2 Aston Villa. The Foxes looked up for the battle with Villa. Villa took the lead in the 24th minute through an Ollie Watkins right footed shot from the center of the penalty box to the bottom left corner. To Leicester's credit they fought back and leveled the match in the 35th minute when Harvey Barnes scored from the left side of the box. The Foxes were undone, however, by two yellows in rapid succession shown to Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall for two bad fouls in the 64th and 70th minutes. Villa was able take advantage of being a man up and claim all three points on a Bertrand Traor beautiful goal from outside the box to the top left corner and beyond a helpless Iverson in the net. Tough loss for the Foxes, who really need to find some kind of form, and in a hurry.

Today's Game

West Ham v. Newcastle (2pm, London Stadium, USA Network). The Hammers will try and continue their recent success at home as they welcome a Newcastle club who is on a good run of form themselves that has elevated them to third place in the league. West Ham are 2-0-1 in their last three home matches, a run that has pulled the club out of the bottom three and into 15th place. The Magpies Have won their last three matches, outscoring their opponents 6-2 in the span. The two clubs met in February at St. James Park and both side came away with a point in a 1-1 draw, so expect another tight game today.

Enjoy your Wednesday Soccer!

Everyone except West Ham has now played 29 matches, with the Hammers having one game in hand on the rest. Amazing what 3 points will do for you in this race, as Leeds moves from 18th to 13th with its win over Forest.

I'm getting ahead of you but Leeds-CP this weekend is gonna be huge. The bulk of teams below them have tough matchups, so a winner here is gonna get some separation from the pack.

Given the fact that three points separate 12th from 18th, the potential swing of the six-point games is mammoth. All the clubs have enough matches against other teams in the relegation zone that those matches will really be the determining factor. Picking up points against the top level clubs is nice, but winning against other relegation battlers, while they don't win, is massive.

After just a few days off, the relegation battle will start again on Saturday. All our relegation battlers will be in action this Easter weekend, and given the fact that 12th place and 18th are separated by 3 points, expect some wild swings this weekend.

Toay's Matches
Manchester United v Everton (6:30am, Old Trafford, USA Network)--Everton make the short trip to Manchester for the early Saturday match, where the Toffees will look to claim points off of the Red Devils. Everton have claimed points in four matches in a row, going 1-0-3 over the span, suggesting that Sam Dyche has the club playing in the manner he wants. Everton have also claimed draws in their last two trips to Old Trafford, so expect this match to be a tight affair on Saturday. United come into the match looking to secure their position in the top 4, and cannot afford dropping points to bottom dwellers.

Aston Villa v. Nottingham Forest (9am, Villa Park, Peacock)--Forest will hit the road again on Saturday, traveling to the Midlands to take on a red-hot Aston Villa club. Forest have been leaking oil as of late, claiming only 2 points from their last 5 matches, going 0-3-2 over that span. Villa, meanwhile, have been on fire, claiming a 4-0-1 record over their last 5 EPL matches. The clubs drew 1-1 at the City Grounds back in October, a result Forest would undoubtedly take again.

Fulham v. West Ham (9am, Craven Cottage, Peacock). West Ham will travel across London to battle a struggling Fulham squad. The Hammers were hammered by Newcastle at home in the midweek, so they will be happy for the quick turn around to get rid of that memory. Fulham have lost their last three and will be eager to turn around their ship against their London neighbors. West Ham claimed a 3-1 win back in October when the clubs met at London Stadium, a result they would happily duplicate if possible.

Leicester v. Bournemouth (9am, King Power Stadium, Peacock). This is arguably the most important relegation battle of the weekend, as these two clubs currently sit in 18th and 19th, and both will be desperate for the win and three points. Leicester are currently without a manager after sacking Brendan Rogers and have claimed only one point from their last 5 matches, while Bournemouth have gone 2-3-0 in their last 5 for 6 points, and in the process they have gone from the bottom dweller to truly joining the battle for safety. Bournemouth claimed all three points in a 2-1 win back in October when the clubs last met, that time at Vitality Stadium. A win for either club would likely raise them out of the bottom 3, so look for both to come out looking for the win.

Wolverhampton v. Chelsea (9am, Molineaux Stadium, USA Network). Wolves will host their Blue visitors from West London who will have a new manager in place, as the second Frank Lampard era begins at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have gone 2-1-2 for 8 points from their last 5, while Wolves have claimed 4 points from their last 5, going 1-3-1 over the span. Chelsea dismantled Wolves in October, 3-0, and will be hoping for a similar result today. Wolves just need points, so expect them to come out in a defensive posture.

Southampton v. Manchester City (11:30am, St. Mary's Stadium, NBC). Southampton will welcome the reigning champs to the South Coast for a Sunday evening match. Southampton are desperate for points, so not a good time to welcome a potent City side who is looking to chase down front leading Arsenal. Southampton have claimed draws against City in a two of their last three EPL clashes, and the Saints would be happy to cme away with a point today.
