Everton had been skirting relegation for 2 years. It's their time. And LC deserves it after selling everyone off for cash.

I think that is a bit harsh on LC. Those players want to play with the big top clubs and get the bigger contracts. They could have sold Tielemans and Madison. Now those players will be on a discount if LC get relegated.

No. I'm with Furlock. Between the owner being killed in the helicopter crash and the son taking over and the downturn in their business they are not in a good financial position. I'm not a super big Brendan Bright Teeth fan but he got no help this year. LC need to go down and reset their club.

Wow, that's the kind of loss that gets a team relegated. 1-0 up In the 82nd minute and leave with zero points. Tough loss for Forest.

One more big match for the weekend of games today, as Everton and Leicester face off.

Leicester v. Everton (2pm, King Power Stadium, USA Network). This match has the feel of an elimination match, as the two clubs will meet on Monday sitting in 18th and 19th places. The winner of this match will climb out of the bottom 3 and the loser would fall to 19th place and face a steep, steep, uphill battle for safety. The importance of this game cannot be overstated, by far the biggest relegation match of the season. Leicester will come in having just drawn with Leeds at Elland Road in what was another huge match-up. A draw really does neither team here any good, as both need to start racking up points to get out of the bottom three. Everton have only won once all year away from Goodison Park, so it is a tall task for them on Monday night, and a draw truthfully helps them more than Leicester. The Foxes, for their part, have the second worst home record in the EPL this season, having only claimed 4 home victories in 16 opportunities. Big game under the Monday night lights, will be a must watch for sure!

Weekend Results
Crystal Palace 4-3 West Ham
Brentford 2-1 Nottingham Forest
Bournemouth 4-1 Leeds United
Newcastle 3-1 Southampton

Only Bournemouth claimed points from the teams in the relegation battle so far this weekend. Bournemouth now are safe from relegation and can look forward to a summer break and a 2023-24 season in the EPL, which is really quite amazing, as they were really my favorite for relegation when we started tracking this in February.

Updated Standings
Place Club Games Played Points
15. West Ham 33 34
16. Leeds United 34 30
17. Nottingham Forest 34 30
18. Leicester City 33 29
19. Everton 33 28
20. Southampton 34 24

Here is my predicted 3 for Relegation:

Southampton
Nottingham Forest*
Leeds

Southampton are sunk. On 24 points with 4 matches to play. Out of my predicted 3, Southampton do look to have the easiest schedule, though. But, I just don't see them taking at least 7 points from their last 4 matches for a chance to stay up.

*Nottingham Forest prediction is based on my expectation that they will take 1 point from their final 4 matches, a draw against Southampton. They may take a point on their last match day against Crystal Palace but I don't see it happening.

Leeds. This one hurts with the Americans on the roster but I just don't see them taking another point this season. Their final 4 are against Man City, Newcastle, West Ham and Spurs. Maybe a point against West Ham?

As much as I want to see Everton relegated, I think they find some more of the same magic that has kept them in the Prem the last decade. They also benefit from having maybe the weakest remaining schedule.
People think I'm an idiot or something, because all I do is cut lawns for a living.

Bournemouth turned it around and kudos to them.

Or perhaps it's equally appropriate to say that others became even bigger train wrecks than they already were (looking at you Leeds).

I would throw into that whomever loses today, Leicester or Everton. I think 3 teams are battling for the final 2 spots, Leeds, Forest and today's loser, with Southampton having one of the spots claimed.

Since the beginning of March Bournemouth has gone 6-4-0 for a total of 18 points out of a possible 30 points.

Prior to March the Cherries had played 24 EPL matches, collecting 21 total points. They have since collected 18 points from their last 10 matches. It is quite a turnaround.

That is an average of 1.8 points per match over the last 10. It they had maintained that same pace all year they would currently have 61 points, which would put them in 5th place and just 2 points out of a Champions League spot. So the turn around on the south coast has been amazing.

Remaining games of the bottom 5:

Leeds: @City, Newcastle, @West Ham, Tottenham
Forest: Southampton, @Chelsea, Arsenal, @Palace
Leicester: Everton, @Fulham, Liverpool, @Newcastle, West Ham
Everton: @Leicester, @Brighton, City, @Wolves, Bournemouth
Southampton: @Forest, Fulham, @Brighton, Liverpool

I'd say each club has 2 games that will be nearly impossible to get any points out of except Forest mostly because Chelsea can not consider any opponent to be a sure 3 points this season. They probably have the easiest schedule and Leeds probably have the hardest. I can't see them getting more than 2-4 points out of those 4 games and the 4 is only because they'll likely be playing a Tottenham team on the final day who has nothing to play for and just wants the season to be over.

Every other team currently within 2 points of them has a realistic path to 6 points at least (IMO). Leeds really need a draw between Leicester and Everton tonight but even with that, I think they're going down.

Southampton are too far back. They'd likely need 10 points minimum out of their last 4 and that seems highly unlikely. They're going down too.

For the last club, I think it's almost certainly going to be Everton unless they manage a win tonight. If they lose/draw, it will be extremely difficult for them. Forest have been playing relatively well lately and has a decent schedule. Leicester's GD is like an extra point in the table so if they get a result tonight, they'll effectively be 2 or 5 points ahead of Everton. Everton meanwhile have been mostly poor for the last month with the exception of the off 15 minutes here and there. But if they manage a win tonight somehow, they'll have a shot.

Maddison misses a pk in the last stoppage time minute,, 2-1 at the half. Looks like we might have seen the last of Seamus Coleman as he was taken off on a stretcher with what looked like an ACL injury.

Be careful assuming wins for any of these four teams right now. Looking at their schedules, I would say whomever loses today between Leicester and Everton is in real, real, trouble. If they draw it could be both of them.

Leeds have to find some semblance of defense for me to think they have any chance.

I tuned in just in time to see the stretcher and the missed pen. At the risk of over-generalizing based on just 5 mins… it seems like it's going exactly like a quintessential relegation fight ought to go.

It has been a crazy game. It should be 4-3 right now instead of 2-1. Not could be 4-3, but should be 4-3. Wild end to end stuff.

If there has ever been a game that symbolized the awesomeness of relegation this match is it. Such a back and forth affair, both teams literally fighting for their EPL lives. What other sport provides such late season drama in a game where two teams near the bottom of the table are playing one another, just awesome entertainment.

Somehow, someway, that game ended 2-2. Really should have been 4-4. Unbelievable.

The revised standings are equally unreal:

Place Club Games Played Points
15. West Ham 33 34
16. Leicester City 34 30
17. Leeds United 34 30
18. Nottingham Forest 34 30
19. Everton 34 29
20. Southampton 34 24

Three teams level on30 points, and one club one point behind on 29. 2 of the 4 are going down. Absolute insanity.

Man, Everton has really put themselves in a bad spot. I doubt they get points from Brighton who are playing well, and City are just on another level than everyone right now. So getting to 35 requires beating Wolves there and Bournemouth home on the last day. It's not impossible, but it seems more unlikely than likely.

Just being the Jordan Pickford we all know and do not love. Over animation, over talking, over playing balls he has no business playing, all while having his punchable face.

Yeah at this point, I think you can mark West Ham as safe too. I know it's mathematically prudent to keep them on, but man, I'd honestly be surprised if even one of the teams below them can actually go out and get 5 (or 6) points and pass them… 3 of those turds doing it seems impossible.
