Their opponent's total record is well below, .500, but they are still winning the games. This time last year they were struggling to stay above .500 with the same level of competition. They have a lot of offensive weapons, and still have a lot opportunity to improve on the defensive end. The competition for the rest of this month should give us a better idea of where they're at as a club as they will play Utah, Dallas, NOLA and Orlando.

firing on all cylinders right now. RJ HUGELY improved over last year, tiago splitter is finally on the team, and everyone is healthy.

sky is the limit right now. all that worries me is the spurs wearing themselves out early.

sharkenleo, not everyone is healthy, j. anderson is out for 6-8 weeks with broken foot. Not a big loss, but he was getting early minutes and doing well for a rookie.

The Spurs playing this well with Anderson out is good news, because Anderson is solid. When he comes back, the Spurs will be even better.

The main deal is the change in how the Spurs play in the 3rd. They're crushing people, as opposed to previous years when they'd wilt.

With RJ scoring and Hill/new guys picking it up off the bench, they're not relying on points from the 4 or 5. Ergo, any points from Bonner, Timmah, Dice or Splitter is gravy.

They have been winning so casually this year. They sleepwalk their way through the first half, absolutely dominate the third, then out-execute through the fourth to coast out with a win. The game against Chicago was the last one I saw.... it wasn't a blowout score, but the game was never in doubt.

Well, it only took 11 straight wins, but Hollinger's ranking finally puts them at #1 for the moment.

The Western Conference had better watch out. With the Spurs starting like this, I'm predicting a record season for the boys in silver and black. Imagine once they gel...?

Well, looks like the Spurs winning streak is about to come to an end as they are signing Ime Udoka again for the vet. minimum. If I had to guess, Pop isn't happy with the way the Gary Neal has been playing. I see Ime taking his minutes, killing any shred of confidence Neal has left.

Why can't Pop just cut these deadweight veterans loose? Pop's personnel decisions are either very hot or very cold.

That said, it will only bother me if Ime gets minutes. If he's just the 12th guy on the end of the bench no big deal (somehow I doubt that though).

Agreed, mostly. I think most people had already dismissed the Spurs as legitimate contenders (must admit I was in this category), but after this start, they have to be turning some heads. This isn't a team that is having a fluke of a good season, this is a team that has won 3 championships in the past 7 years. I wouldn't go so far as to say they are the biggest challenger to the Lakers yet, as it's still way too early, but they are definitely a challenger and, imo, a contender.

Neal looked confident on those free throws. Lets do this sh-t in OT boys.

Yea, in a Bill Simmons chat I saw that he said he's getting reports that Manu's knees/ankles aren't as good as the Spurs are leading on...granted, when I re-read that first sentence I don't necessarily believe all the "he said/she said" business...but given how he's been the past few years, I wouldn't be surprised
