Why the hell does Antonio McDyess only play 14 minutes when he is our best Dirk defender?

Looks like the same old Spurs to me, only question is which foreign backup point guard is going to humiliate them again in the playoffs?

It's easy to say that after one game. Being second in the league in scoring isn't exactly vintage Spurs. I don't expect Dirk to shoot that well an any of the next meetings as Dyess will be hounding him, nor do I expect Shawn Marion to rack up 19 points.

Big road win vs. NO. Won by 14 after being down big at the half.

12 players played in the beating of NOH, including Chris Quinn (didn't even know he was on the roster) and Ime (who was just signed a couple days ago. Splitter got 11 minutes, which is nice. Blair seems to be vanishing.

They limited the hornets to 34 in the second half, the best stretch of defense I've seen them play all year.

very nice bounce-back win.

spurs of last year would've skidded for at least another game or two.

Watched the game against Minnesota a few days ago. I was shocked and appalled to see Ime Udoka and Matt Bonner on the floor at the same time.

Preview of the playoffs? Probably.

I said it on the other thread too....I'll wait until they are about 30-5 before I start to think this will lead to anything. The Lakers have still got to be the clear-cut favorites, and until the Spurs make a few statements against them and some of the league's other elite teams, I'm going to just consider this a "nice run", and nothing more.

The Spurs are more/less using the same cast and crew from the last couple years. With Matt Bonner and Ime Udoka sure to receive significant minutes in the playoffs, the Spurs have little hope of keeping pace with some of the elite teams.

I agree that the Lakers are still the team to beat and it is November so in the grand scheme of things these wins don't count for much, but the quoted statement isn't really correct.

Neal is big off the bench, Jefferson is playing better, Blair is improving in his sophomore season, and Manu is healthy. Healthy Manu makes this team much, much better. Pop has altered the offensive scheme. When Anderson comes back that will be another wing who can score in a variety of ways. Splitter is starting to get minutes again and can be a valuable defender controlling the paint down the stretch.

IF the Spurs can pull their usual trick of improving in the second half of the season, this could be a very special team.

Ime is only here to hold the fort until Anderson gets back. He won't see the floor in the playoffs. Bonner is interesting. When he's draining threes at 80% he's great, but otherwise he's a waste of a roster spot. I think Pop has more options this year and will only play Bonner when he's hitting.

Splitter is also a huge addition. He's not getting big minutes yet but he looks to be good enough to be on the floor against Gasol. I'm looking forward to that first Laker game to see how he matches up.

I hope you are right, because if I see Bonner and Ime on the court at the same time in the playoffs I'm going to turn off the tv and find another sport to follow.

You mentioned one new guy. The rest of those guys are the "same cast/crew". If you think Neal will see PT in the playoffs you haven't followed the career of one Gregg Popavich.

Neal has a prayer. NO WAY James Anderson sees significant minutes in the playoffs. You know better than that.

Splitter = Oberto. Even Sean Elliot admitted it on TV the other night in the Dallas game.

Wanna bet? Ime is a "Coach Pop" guy. He will see backup minutes in the playoffs. Anderson will not. Book it.

Sure, lets bet. Pop didn't even sign Ime until AFTER James got injured. Before that, the kid showed some defensive toughness and an offensive game. Ime only plays defense.

Neal is also a rookie and he gets way more PT than Ime right now. Why would Pop suddenly switch things up for the playoffs?

Splitter is much bigger than Oberto. They may be similar offensively, but defensively Splitter will have a bigger presence. Plus, I have to point out that the Spurs won a Championship with Oberto. Savvy bigs that take charges are extremely valuable.

I also want to point out that the Spurs haven't won a ship since Eva and Tony got married. Now that they're split up its only logical to think that the magic has been restored.

You got me on that one.
I have to admit I've been wondering whether or not there was a "Jessica Simpson" effect in play the last 3 seasons.

LOL @ trying to tie Eva into this--unless you're superstitious, that's hardly been a factor in Tony's play. Parker'd been carrying the team on his back by himself through several rough stretches when Timmy and Manu were battling injuries.

A 5th titles would make my world, the Spurs have already so much to prove how awesome they are. Heck I want to be greedy and demand a 5th title for San Antonio

MassAggie isn't happy unless the Spurs are struggling. That dude is the most pessimistic fan I've ever seen.

I call bull****.
I just don't drink the koolaid like a lot of people. I see faults where there are faults. The current Spurs team looks alot like the mid-00's Mavericks to me. Able to outscore people at will, but not great defensively. That's great for the regular season but it will be a problem in the playoffs against a good defensive LA team, especially when Matt Bonner is putting up 0-fers and Pop freaks out and plays Ime Udoka 35 mpg to try and "shut down" Kobe.

And I've been around long enough to recognize "hot starts" to the season don't necessarily amount to success when it counts.

You call it pessimism, I call it pragmatism.

I am remaining cautiously optimistic. I didn't expect the Spurs to start this strong and play this well. They are in a great rhythm and they still have a some bullets in the gun with Anderson set to return at some point and Splitter likely getting more minutes as the year goes on. They are also using Duncan very gingerly. If Manu can be 100% going into the playoffs they will be very tough to beat. The biggest reason for optimism to me is seeing how Jefferson seems to have integrated into the team so much better this year than last.

It is so early though, mainly I'm just glad to see them racking up the W's.
