Jazz are just throwing **** up and it's going in. Defense isn't locked in like it needs to be, but good lord some of these shots are just stupid.

7/25 from deep is not going to do it. Need to start getting to the basket.

Team looks very uninspired.

Edit: Wrong emoji.

Too much iso and jacking up threes. Between that and the Jazz hitting absolutely everything there was not much of a chance.

Came all the way back to tie and then totally fell apart.

Just one of those nights.

Refs refusing to call Nurk for elbowing Wemby in the throat (would have been his 6th) then refusing to call the jazz when Keldon got the **** slapped on him on the other end sealed this game.

Both those are easy calls right in front of the refs. You can't allow players (especially players with a history of being dirty like Nurk) to make dangerous plays like that which risk serious injury and they have to make the right calls. It's the same as OKC - let them hack the **** out of everything and they are going to brutalize teams. That's what the Jazz were doing. But then they called tickytac stuff on Steph the other way. Absolutely brutal.

Wemby, Champagnie, Castle and Vassell going a combined 3-27 from 3 didn't help.

Hawks battled back from down 18 to take a late 4th quarter lead.

Then with 15 seconds and down by 1, Trae Young gets the ball 1-on-1 with Mitchell Robinson guarding him and he just freezes and kicks it back to Jalen Johnson, only Trae telegraphed the pass and OG Anunoby stole it. They have to foul OG,

OG nails the FTs to ice the game.

NAW had an open look to tie the game and rimmed it out.

Also Milwaukee won in Giannis' return. He played 25 minutes.

Milwaukee now 1.5 games back from Atlanta for the 10th and final play in spot.

So some good things for us as well. I can't believe Trae didn't try ANYTHING against Mitchell Robinson. Who exactly do you want to defend you, Trae?

No, but we battled back and were in position to win.

What really hurt us was Mitch playing with the 3rd stringers early in the 2nd. Utah went on a run against the Sochans and we dug ourselves in a big hole. Big unforced error.

I don't mind rotating in a guy here and there to see, but we straight up put in Sochan, Bryant, and Waters together.

Yeah, that was subpar. Sochan is close to unplayable.

Turns out Fox is hugely important for this team.

Eh, it happens to every team. OKC last year lost to a Zach Collins-led Spurs team with no Wemby. I would rather lose a dumb game where we can get Bryant quality minutes than lose games to playoff teams.

I think they are going to panic trade.

With the assumption of no Trae, Kristaps has to be included. If they are trying to get the Hawks to eat salary, you can financially do:

Kristaps, Risacher, Kennard (Kristaps/Kennard are expiring contracts)
for
AD, Jalen Hardy, DLo.

Mavs save 11M this year, Hawks go 6M into the tax, but stay below 1st apron. Mavs get within $6M of the luxury tax line. Currently 16.8M over the tax. They can probably get the rest of the way there by dumping Klay or getting value for Gafford.

As for picks, the Hawks own:

2026: Pelicans, Cleveland (their pick will be swapped to Spurs, then the Spurs pick swapped to Cleveland - complicated swap)
2027: Least favorable of Pelicans/Bucks pick, but protected 1-4 (so if both Bucks and Pelicans are top 4, they both go to NO)
2028: 2nd best pick of Utah, Cleveland, Atlanta
2029-2032: Their own pick

If they panic trade, I could see them give up this year's Cleveland pick and one other pick.

Something kind of interesting I saw proposed on Reddit, but will adapt it a bit to fit us better.

Mavs essentially get the Cavs 1st in 2026 (Hawks traded their butt end of our swap for the better side of the Cavs or Jazz swap, but the Jazz pick is top 8 protected, so Hawks get the Cavs 2026 pick and the Cavs get the Spurs pick - that Cavs pick goes to the Mavs.)

The Spurs undo the Mavs swap in 2030, but still have the 2030 swap with Minnesota.

The Hawks trade their swap to the Mavs in 2028. So Dallas has the worse pick of Dallas/OKC in 2028, Hawks get the OKC pick and the Mavs get the better pick of Hawks/Cavs.

----

Utah saves 2.1M on Sochan and gets to try to rehabilitate him. They could use defense and if they can't it is a low-pressure move because they can let him walk or give him the QO for next year to give him one more year. They need the defense with Lauri/Ace at forward.

---

Spurs get to see if Risacher can develop in a good situation for the cost of a 2nd in the 40s and unwinding a swap when we have another swap on that pick anyway. Move on from Olynyk/Sochan for SloMo, who is a much better defender and passer than Olynyk and Olynyk's better shooting doesn't matter since he is just at .292 on the year. Risacher is a clear upgrade to Sochan. SloMo's contract for next year is unguaranteed and only 9M.

The negative is that Bryant/Risacher are both D&3 wings, but I think Bryant is big enough to play some PF, too, depending on the matchup. We get kind of a log jam at wing with Devin, Risacher, Bryant, Julian, Keldon. But we immediately have more playable depth and if Risacher develops here with less pressure, the Hawks look even dumber.

---

Hawks can roll AD / Oknogwu / Johnson / Dyson / Trae with NAW as their 6th man. It will look better periodically when AD actually plays. If AD could actually be a consistent participant, they could look great, but I think those days are over. AD is basically the only path to saving their defense, and I think even with him, they are too porous with Okongwu, Johnson, and Trae. But on paper, Dyson+AD should look way better.

---

Dallas clears 7M off the luxury tax, almost getting out from the 1st apron and can clear the rest of the tax with a Klay trade. Because they clear AD+Dlo off next year's cap, they save almost 65M off the cap and can tank their own pick and then get a mid-round pick from Cleveland and a 2nd. Dallas rehabilitates their 2028 swap and gets control of their 2030 pick back.

Atlanta hanging around with OKC since Young is out tonight. Hopefully they get him back in the lineup ASAP but it is becoming more obvious by the day that playing him significant minutes with the guys they have is coaching malpractice.

OKC has only hit 3 threes in the first half against those bums and is only down 4.

I'm sure they will do enough to win, but it shouldn't be this close.

Heat beating Denver (Joker hasn't returned)
Pelicans beating the Knicks at halftime. Nearly 150 total points scored in the 1st half.
Nets beating the Warriors.
