Kyle Tucker at 15 is the only other Astros prospect on the list, for those too lazy to click

Huh??

We've got 4 on that list

Forrest Whitley @ 10
Kyle Tucker @ 15
Yordan Alvarez @ 62
JB Bukauskas @ 76

What exactly qualifies a player as a prospect for this list? I ask because I notice there is no Francis Martes.

Think he spent too much time in the Majors this year. He debuted on June 9th, and "exceeded Rookie limits" during the season, according to Baseball-Reference.

Damn I didn't realize he exceeded rookie limits.

I just assumed once you made your MLB debut you were no longer considered a prospect per BA.

Oops. I did a quick scroll through the list on my phone at work, hit the ad after #60, and assumed it was the end of the list.

Plus y'all should know not to take my word on anything that regards reading by now...

Haha, some good irony in your two posts there

Given their trajectory, service time (or clock, whatever schedule Luhnow has to moderate) and the existing Houston roster, what do you think in terms of major league appearances? Injuries obviously affect that greatly, but I assume Bukauskas might land in the Astros pen sometime in 18. Agree, disagree?
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

Without a major need, I can't see him coming up for more than just a Sept call up at most. I want JB & Forrest to build up their stamina as a starter and get ready to take on roles in the rotation when there is no more Keuchel, Verlander, and/or Cole. I'm not sure how much they could contribute in the bullpen next year.

There are others on here who are tuned into that stuff more so than myself, but I would imagine with our upgrades to the pen and rotation we won't see JB or Forrest until 2019 unless we make a trade for a bat later on or release someone like Sipp.

I guess it's the same for Tucker.

Alvarez is interesting because with the misses on Singleton and Reed we're thin at 1B. I don't know how he's progressing but I think it would be great if we could eventually slot him at 1B and hand over DH to Yuli. However, I imagine that's at least year probably two away.

I think it goes without saying things could really change depending on how on the current roster we let go to FA in the next year or two. Like I said some of the others could probably chime in with more detail but this is my guess.

I dont think we will see Bukauskas this year. Sounds like the plan is to develop him is a starter and I am not sure it makes sense to bring him up as a bullpen piece in 2018 unless the need is dire.

I could see Whitley getting some time late in the year, but I lean more towards 2019 for him. We will have Martes, Rodgers, Armenteros, and Paulino in AAA as starters to start 2018. Not sure there will be room for Whitley.

Alvarez is still pretty raw from what I have seen. The power disappeared once he was promoted to Hi A. He will start in Buies Creek and have plenty of time to develop. 2019 at the earliest.

Tucker is the only top 100 guy we should see this year.

He the most likely by he just turned 21 5 days ago and only got half a season in double A. I would not be mad if we only saw him in Sept.

I don't think that we'll be able to keep him down, honestly. He hit 25 homeruns last year at age 20 (16 at AA level while fighting injuries). That's freakish, as many as Correa hit in his whole 4 season career before he got the call up and he hits from the left side, probably our #1 lineup composition need at the moment. He's gonna be sent to Fresno and if he performs there he's gonna get called up asap, IMO.

From baseball america's page about our farm system:

PROJECTED 2021 LINEUP
(Listed with 2021 season age)
C Garrett Stubbs (26)
1B Yordan Alvarez (24)
2B Jose Altuve (31)
3B Alex Bregman (27)
SS Carlos Correa (26)
LF Derek Fisher (27)
CF George Springer (31)
RF Kyle Tucker (24)
DH J.D. Davis (27)
SP Forrest Whitley (23)
SP Lance McCullers Jr. (27)
SP Justin Verlander (38)
SP Dallas Keuchel (33)
SP Gerrit Cole (30)
CL Jorge Alcala (25)

Would be pretty badass to keep all those guys but for some reason I doubt it.

Just saw the 2021 lineup and realized that Bregman and Correa will just be entering their prime during that season.

Since we are looking at that prospect list whom might we trade a veteran for in a couple of years?

It's hard to make definitive statements about prospect call-ups. Much will depend on their performance, as well as injury/performance at the big league level. There are other players in play, too. Lets say we need someone to step into the rotation for a few starts in May. Is that Whitley or a guy like Paulino or Martes if they're throwing well in Fresno?

J.D. Davis will likely be moved in the next year or so if he continues his upward trajectory.

Welp...Found Sipp's replacement

Quote:

The Astros have claimed left-handed reliever Buddy Boshers off waivers from the Twins, per a team announcement from Houston. Boshers was designated for assignment by the Twins in order to clear a roster spot for Addison Reed. Boshers pushes Houston's 40-man roster up to a count of 39.

Set to turn 30 in May, Boshers parlayed a minor league deal with the Twins in the 2015-16 offseason into 71 innings of work and more than a year of service at the big league level. In parts of his two seasons with Minnesota, the southpaw turned in a 4.56 ERA. Boshers impressed with an 8.2 K/9 rate against 2.2 BB/9, but he's also been somewhat homer-prone (1.3 HR/9). He's also been clobbered by right-handed opponents in that time; while Boshers limited lefties to a lowly .231/.262/.345 batting line through 122 plate appearances, righties knocked him around at a .268/.330/.485 clip in 183 PAs.

Don't think he'll be any worse

Just a heads up for people considering fighting crowds to see the trophy:

Either Luhnow or Reid Ryan said during their Astroline that the trophy will be out for all the games next season. I'd guess that it'd probably be much easier to go see it / take a pic then if you can wait.

Also, if you haven't been listening to the Astrolines, do yourself a favor and go check them out on the Astros podcast. Definitely a good way to get your fix during the offseason

I am so ****ing jacked for this upcoming season. I can not ****ing wait. I usually get that itch and nervousness every year, but this year is extra special. I am trying my best to not just outright expect another trip to the playoffs, because it is baseball and you just never know.....but either way this years team is going to be a joy to watch. Especially a full season with Verlander and Dallas in his final year pitching for a big contract.

I can't ****ing wait for sunshine, shorts/flip flops, cold Karbach, and Astros baseball
