I don't know what the deal is on your link.

I was able to get stats on the entire team here.

From mlb.com homepage click on Stats--ST Sortable Stats--Select 2018--Select Houston Astros

Do my numbers look correct here to make 25 man roster?

Position Players -
Altuve
Correa
Bregman
Gurriel
Marwin
Springer
Reddick
Gattis
McCann
Stassi (hinch said carrying 3rd catcher)
Marisnick

Pitchers -
Keuchel
Verlander
Morton
McCullers
Cole
Mccugh

Peacock
Giles
Devinski
Rondon
Smith
Harris

That's 23 players. I'd assume our final 2 spots are going to be filled with 1 reliever out of this group and 1 utility guy:

Tucker
Fisher
White
Kemp

Martes
Paulino
Guadwan/Sipp (lefty)

-I don't see any way kemp or white jump fisher without a unreal spring training.

- I also don't really see the point of carrying a left handed reliever if neither of them are any good.

-One thought would be to leave tucker in the minors to let him keep getting at bats so you don't slow progess down which is what I'd assume we will do.

So assuming all that's correct and no injuries to start the year...the Astros spring training is basically a fight between Kyle tucker and fisher for spot #24 and martes vs someone else for spot #25?

Am I missing anything or is that about where we are at?

I think it's Fisher's spot to lose and I'm not even sure he can do that. It's sink or swim time for him. He'll get the majority of time in LF starting out.

As sad as it is I think Sipp will be on this team whether we like it or not. They're paying him too much not to. It sucks and here's to hoping he doesn't pitch often but I think he starts the year with us. Doubt he finishes it here since I think at some point in the season we upgrade the lefty specialist role.

Only hiccup I could see is wanting to squeeze Gose in the BP so we don't have to hand him back to TEX since he was a Rule 5 guy. He's a LHP so MAYBE he takes Sipp's spot, but I don't know. That seems like asking a lot from a guy who's converting to pitcher.

I think Fisher will be given a lot of opportunities, but we have to keep Marwin the lineup as long as he's playing close to the level he was last year. That means he needs to be in LF, DHing, and playing on the IFs off days.

I could see it with Sipp. That's sure going to be a tough decision keeping martes off the roster if he's looking good this spring.

This roster was pretty much set before spring training even started which is crazy. Our AAA team is going to be loaded

I know it's only a few times a year, but Gose could actually pinch run and then start an inning pitching with a little double switch action in NL parks.

I think Fisher will be given every opportunity to make the team. I think he's the future in LF.

As far as lefty relievers go, don't forget, the Astros brought in Boshers to compete with Sipp. Boshers didn't have a great ERA with the Twins last year, but could be a decent situational lefty if Sipp falls flat.

Also, I don't see how Martes makes the team out of ST. He needs more seasoning in Triple A. At some point this season though, we will see him on the roster.

With Gose, I think the Astros are hoping to catch lightning in a bottle with him. I'd say it's highly doubtful he makes the team as a pitcher, unless Sipp and Boshers both fail in ST.

For Martes I think he needs to stay in AAA and start and not come up until he can slot into the rotation.

He seems like one that would respond better to starting rather than going into the pen first and then moving to the rotation. Just doesn't some off as a guy who would adjust well to flip flopping roles as he is brought along.

Put him in AAA and groom him to start then when he's needed or ready bring him up to start.

Tucker will start the year in AAA. They need him to continue to develop and that won't happen playing twice a week.

I just worry about wear and tear.

With us playing so long in the playoffs and the early start this year it was a pretty quick turn around for our guys.

I fully expect to see Hinch and the staff manage guys a bit carefully for the first half (ie a handful of 10 day DL stints for arm fatigue and hangnails).

That is good to know. Over the last few years, Verlander's first halves have not been great. He's been more a 2nd half/down the stretch kind of pitcher.

I'm really shocked he has survived the big trades lately.

With his production and potential and with Bregs locking up 3B I thought for sure he was gone in the JV and Cole deals.
