Whitely will pitch for the Astros this year. Someone referenced our AAA starters and said there may not be room for him. That's lunacy. Hes the best pitcher we have in the minors and has dominated at every level. He will do the same in AAA this year and see Minute Maid sometime later this summer. He would be a wildcard for us when the playoffs roll around.
Performance looks absolutely like a guy who is on the fast track to the bigs. Lack of innings count and endurance though plus the fact that he's only really had a bit of a dip in AA so far make me a bit unsure.
He's kind of in the same position Lance was in circa 2015, but the major league pitching situation is way different than then.

Keith Law has Whitley at 8 (highest pitcher), Tucker at 21 and Alvarez at 40

There's no room for him.
MAYBE if there's injury but even then he's behind Peacock and McHugh who would plug in the rotation if needed.
Once the playoffs start and we only need 3 or 4 starters then there is really no spot for him.
I really don't see him in the bigs until 2019 after Keuchel and/or Morton walk.
And for the record I'm not a big fan of bringing him up and letting him work from the pen until a spot opens up like with what they did with Martes last year. He needs to be treated like LMJ and go straight into the rotation when he's ready.

I'm sure it is marijuana, but If you were given a 2 million per year contract to lounge around in AAA, why would you risk suspension without pay. That is about the only thing you can do to not get paid. Otherwise the money is guaranteed.NotGibbs said:

Singleton didnt play at AAA level last year. The Astros had him in Corpus. His career is essentially over barring a miracle comeback.

Jon was a known pot smoker. He came out a long time ago and tried to pass it off as an addiction. He also spent time in rehab for it earlier in his career.
I'm not very well versed on drugs but I don't buy the whole pot addiction.

Well, at least we don't have to pay him for said 100 games. What a disappointment he has been. I though for sure when we acquired him via trade that he would at least hit .240 with some pop.

It would take some cataclysmic injuries to start Whitley's clock this year. No chance.
