She took a medical timeout at 2-3 in the second to have her shoulder worked on. Proceeded to lose the next 3 games. Had me worried. Glad she recovered and played an excellent 3rd set.

Florida just signed a girl with an 11.23 UTR from Germany. Pepperdine just signed one with a 10.8 UTR from some where in Europe. I'm just saying, it can and should happen for us. How are we not signing someone like this? I feel like they had ample time to know the Nicole situation. Back to back years in the finals and a natty included. Even with Nicole and Luciana 2.0, we still had another scholarship. There is very little to complain about with Mark. He's taken this program to the unknown. With that comes expectations. Just seems like there has been a pretty sizable drop off with top incoming talent since Jordan left, more so how aggressive we are pursuing it

If you're implying that Mark and James are not trying for those type of players, you're wrong. Sometimes, believe it or not, A&M is a hard place to sell to a player. We all love it there, but not everyone feels that way. Don't forget we have no indoors. That's a big selling point that our coaches have to try and hurdle.
Also, as has been seen at least twice in recent memory, A&M has stricter requirements on TOEFL than other schools, which we cannot do anything about when it comes to recruiting.

Mark is an elite coach that took us all the way to the top. One of the most fun and best runs in A&M sports history.
Mark is not an elite recruiter and is at his best when paired with an elite recruiter (Joffe, Jordan). Several SEC schools have surpassed us in recruiting.
We will still be good but our run at the top only comes back when the elite recruiting starts back up.
Sorry, not implying that Mark and James aren't putting in the effort. I've watched A$M women's tennis since 2010, so I've seen what it has been. It's just crazy seeing other schools land top flight players as of late but A&M is struggling. Is the recruiting piece more of a lack of indoor courts things? I mean, you can't tell me Stillwater Oklahoma is that much of a nicer or more prestigious place than College Station.
Pepperdine I can understand, even UF. But what does Baton Rouge and LSU offer that college station doesn't? Outside of indoor courts and some night life

We've all heard of the slimy stuff oklahoma state did in their recruiting that got their coach fired, and yes they have those fancy indoor courts that should serve honey butter chicken biscuits. As for Florida, well, Rachel Gailis still needs a college degree.
I think the indoors play a big piece for that level of player. They are looking to train for the pro game, so when the weather is bad, there is either "the climate controlled indoor facility is next door to the outdoor courts", OR "we may be able to get 3 courts for 8-10 girls on covered, non climate controlled courts in town, or have to drive to Houston or Waco to get a 1.5 hour hit." Those two are way different, obviously.
Not sure when A&M became so hard to get in as an international student, but it apparently is these days. That hurts as well.
Bottom line: A&M needs to do a serious upgrade on our facilities. Mitchell was built in 1998, and has had numerous Band-Aids since then to try and keep it nice. The locker rooms keep getting redone, but they are cramped - the men's locker room doesn't even have enough space for all the players locker-wise. They have to share...
The lack of indoors makes it insane that the women's team has had the success they have. We miss a bunch of days, or have less quality days, due to no indoors. Also, the better opponents sometimes choose to not play here due to lack of indoors. They don't want to waste a day coming down and having nowhere to play in case of weather, or worse, drive 90 miles to Baylor to play. That in itself is embarrassing.
The athletic department has been a huge disappointment, in my opinion. They have basically given the tennis programs the middle finger with facilities, while every other sport has state of the art facilities.
Not sure when A&M became so hard to get in as an international student, but it apparently is these days. That hurts as well.

There is parity in the SEC (top 5-6 schools) now. We will still be very competitive. In my mind, this year we will need to win the doubles point consistently. It's very very hard to stay on top as there are ebbs and flows. We have just missed on a few elite recruits (TOEFL or not). We've recruited another that committed but seems to be taking her talents to the tour. We will have an experienced team and that will matter in NCAAs. Hopefully Mark has a few good girls in the pipeline; I have no doubts he has girls lined up.
I think the elite girls really only care about how Texas A&M can help them become a successful WTA tour professional. We have recent success there he can take credit for.

This is well said and I agree on Jordan.
It was the perfect pairing. Hope he returns when Mark retires.
We had two of the nation's top five coaches at the same time. Unfortunately that isn't sustainable.
Crazy that Joffe and Ojeda (assistant) also coached here. That's four top 10 coaches.
The facilities absolutely matter and are a huge problem but that isn't what changed.

Mary looked in charge, but didn't have the answers to close it out today. She won the 2nd set 6-1 and led the 3rd set 3-1, but lost 5 of the last 6 games in the match to lose the 3rd set 4-6.
Carson's match was too late for me to follow live but I checked this morning. AO site shows her retiring in the second set, down 2-4. Lost the first set 4-6. Darn it.
Welll, looking on the positive side, both Carson and Mary earned enough in the tournament to pay a lot of their travel expenses to other tournaments for the rest of the year by making it to Q2 'down under'.

Moyano did not get admitted. She will not be playing this spring as of now.
