May 11 press release on Sydney Jara
Women's Tennis Adds Jara to 2026-27 Roster
COLLEGE STATION -- The No. 3 Texas A&M women's tennis squad strengthened its 2026-27 roster with the addition of 5-star recruit Sydney Jara, head coach Mark Weaver announced Monday.
"We're all very excited to announce the signing of Sydney," Weaver said. "Her level of play is already very good and I fully expect her tennis will take off even more once she steps on the courts here at Texas A&M. Sydney's tennis IQ is very strong at such an early age and I know that she will fit in well with our culture of hard work and doing the right things here in Aggieland."
Jara's most recent success is winning the UTR PTT event at Boca Raton in February. She downed Ava Catanzarite, a 2025 court 4 performer for Oklahoma, in the semifinals of the event. At barely 14-years-old, Jara finished as runner-up at the prestigious FILA Easter Bowl Girls 16s singles in 2022. The Hamilton, Massachusetts, native claimed the USTA Girls 14s Hardcourt National Championship in 2021.
"I chose Texas A&M because from the moment I stepped on campus, I knew it was a place where I could truly see myself growing both as a person and a player," Jara said. "The amazing coaches, the girls on the team who immediately made me feel so comfortable and welcomed, the special environment, and all of the incredible resources made it feel like the perfect fit for me. I also love the atmosphere, culture and the school spirit at Texas A&M which is truly unmatched. You can feel how passionate, supportive and connected the entire community is, and that really stood out to me during my visit. I'm incredibly excited for this next chapter and so grateful for the opportunity to continue both my academic and athletic career at such a special place."
Jara joins a class which was already ranked No. 2 by TennisRecruiting.net with Ruby Cooling (Great Britain), Kori Montoya (Austin, Texas), Rachael Smith (Naperville, Illinois) and Yoana Konstantinova (Bulgaria) headed to Aggieland.
