I like when people angrily argue that the movie that got blown out is better than the other movie. That's just like, your opinion, man!

I don't mean anything with any seriousness. I appreciate you putting these together and it has been fun to have some mock "arguments" about some of these movies.

But, True Lies got robbed. So did Transformers: The Movie 1986.

Thank you, thank you. This is indeed quite the honor. In keeping with the 90s theme, I choose:

Liz Hurley!

JP vs. Office Space?

Is this a fair fight?

Tombstone vs. Shawshank will be closer.

The finals will be a battle!

I love True Lies. But, I can readily admit it is overrated.

What's funny to me, is I don't know which one of JP and Office Space you think will blow the other out.

True Lies 7.2
Tombstone 7.8

it's not an anomaly of texags.

Sorry, but if you had told me Tombstone was made in the late 80's or 2000's, I'd have believed it. True Lies is the epitome of 90's action movies - you've got the two greatest Arnolds of the 90's (Schwarzenegger and Tom), topless harrier jets, dance sequences with Tia Carrere... I'll stop here, this list could get long.

You can't tell me this isn't one of the most 90's movies of the 90's. It should have been in the final four.

Epitomizing the 90s doesn't make it the BEST movie of the 90's. It might make it the MOST 90's MOVIE of the 90s. But this is a Best movie of the 90s contest.

It also doesn't make it a better movie. It's a rather cheesy movie really. Which is totally 90's.

Sorry your movie lost.

Obviously if future contests happen we need brackets for the *MOST* 90's movie of the 90's/Most 80's movies of the 80's. Would be interesting to see how different the winners would be for some of those if people played by the spirit of the contest.

Sorry your finale sucked.

Sorry... where was the "spirit of the contest" posted I missed the rules and the checkbox for agreeing to your terms???

BEST movie of the 90s was pretty clear to me.

True Lies is probably my 10th favorite Arnie movie. Although most aren't 90s movies. But T2 was far better just for one and it lost.

Shawshank is such an overrated movie... but I have a feeling it wins this thing. Jurassic Park should win it though.

I didn't say anything of the sort about that. I said a contest of the most 80's/90's movie of their respective eras could be fun. I understand the current intent of this contest.

Now I have to hear what other 9 Arnies movies you have on this list that are above True Lies. If End of Days or Collateral Damage are on that list, I might not be able to take your opinion seriously going forward.

You guys are ruining my Thursday vibe as I ghostwrite a novel about the British conquest of the Benin Empire.

True lies is great but even at age 20 in 1994 i remember thinking this movie is really shotty towards its female characters. It is never on tv while arnolds far more violent films like conan and predator and terminator are constantly seen.

I'm ashamed to say I don't know if your seriously working on this or if it's another movie quote.

Shawshank - I remember going to the theater with a friend from college. We were going to see some other movie but that movie sold out. He mentioned this Shawshank movie. At first, I was not interested, but then he said it was based on a short story by Stephen King. I hopped on board the idea and we watched it. I still remember leaving the theater and thinking it was the best movie I had ever seen. One of the biggest movie surprises I have ever experienced.

Fair enough, saw your proposed criteria for another contest, but also thought you were implying people were not following the spirit in this contest.

I might have exaggerated with 10 better Arnie movies but not by a lot. I unabashedly love all Terminator movies and certainly Predator and Total Recall rank higher for me. so maybe 5 or 6 are better.

Rotten Tomatoes has True Lies 7th at 70% on their list but that includes Pumping Iron the docudrama. Just another data point.

Anyway you love it more. That is clear. Everyone has their tastes and that's fine. I actually love his movies that are even cheesier than True Lies (Running Man, Kindergarten Cop, Commando) but I don't rate them above it. It's just not my favorite Arnie movie or movie of that era despite being "very 90s".

Kindergarten Cop is such an odd movie. It's disguised as a kids movie, but it has all these adult topics (divorce, domestic abuse), and then tops it off with a really violent ending.

Agreed. I think it's seen as a kids movie by those who aren't as familiar with it, but it's got something for everyone. Maybe too violent for kids, in fact.

I need you guys to point me in the right direction for what I do next, by casting a vote for the next contest.

  • Movies of 2000-2009
  • Best moments from Game of Thrones
  • Best moments from the Marvel films - or maybe all super hero movies dating back to the original Christopher Reeve Superman
  • Hottest Sci-fi/fantasy chicas - I was watching an episode of Firefly last night that heavily featured Inara (Morena Baccarin), and yeah, that idea has some merit - so we'd be talking all TV and movies dating back to whenever I started noticing the hotties on Buck Rodgers and the original Battlestar Galactica.

Vote for one here and I'll do them in order of votes received going forward through the summer of not quite that many people dying as I was told were going to die.

If you are doing best moments of GoT, I suggest the moment when you see Jon's naked butt.
