I'll be THAT guy today and say..... where the hell is BRAVEHEART?????

It wasn't in action so it should be in drama no?????

It won 5 Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director and nominated for 10. It made good box office too and is highly rated.

???????????????????????

There's no Braveheart?????
I understand this was going to be an issue, but based on my own family's background, I have omitted Braveheart, Lethal Weapon 3, and Lethal Weapon 4 due to Mel Gibson's involvement in them. I'm sorry if you'repissed off. I understand if you want to call me a snowflake or a p*ssy or tell me that I need to get over myself and lighten the *****up and that that's all water under the bridge. I realize it's not a true reprsentation of the bracket as Braveheart would probably be a top 8-12 seed. But at the end of the day it didn't set right with me. If you want to flame me for it, feel free, but it's not going to change my mind. Thanks.

I'm going to be honest, I mixed up C&PD and PG, so I voted for my preferred Die Hard in one and the Harrison Ford action in the other.

I do love Braveheart; but I stand by your convictions.

But know, it would take the title.

Not going to flame you for your beliefs but... this isn't the politics board.

And you have excluded apparently ONE person for your beliefs while including many other controversial actors that have some views others might find offensive.

Russell Crowe
Tom Cruise
Vince Vaughn
James Woods

I just think it would have been better to not make a bigger issue out of it by selectively excluding one person apparently - without at least acknowledging it up front. imho.

OK let's not derail.... what's done is done I suppose.

I would of been fine with either. Both were great.

So now you're offended by politics playing a part? Why couldnt you just fairly represent the 90s without injecting your politics into the situation? That movie came out years before he got drunk and said some awful things. Why cant you look at films as the time capsules that they are?

Hey little champion, it's MuckRaker's bracket, not yours. If you want one that includes Mel Gibson or Debbie Gibson or Debbie Harry or Harry Anderson or Arn Anderson, you're more than welcome to.

Out of respect for posters on here who I value as fine contributors, I've moved Titanic out of the #26 spot because it was getting slaughtered, and put Braveheart there. Votes for it and and #7 Goodfellas have been zeroed out, so please go back and just vote that one again if you're inclined.

Muck goes to the trouble of making these brackets and some of you just beeotch and whine about it?

FFS make your own brackets if you don't like it.

Have you seen Ice Cube's social media posts over the last couple of days? Crazy. And he won't suffer financially for it one bit. Sad.

Thanks for the brackets these past few months.

In all honesty if we're talking 90s movies it takes a lot to leave out Braveheart. It was a cultural event as much as it was a great movie. Currently no. 77 on the IMDB Top 250 too, and has those 5 previously mentioned Oscars.

I get that the dude has some controversy, but the cherry-picking can get out of hand. For example, what about 70's movies? Would a 70's bracket leave Annie Hall in? I'm more offended by that movie being in than Braveheart being in the 90's bracket. It is ironic that we have that new Gone With The Wind / HBO thread right now, you could apply that same conversation here.

All in all, yea it's some random bracket on a random website, on a random part of that website, but I still think it's a worthwhile discussion.

If you want to do your own then the best way is to pick the 50 movies in a specific catagory then have people ranked them 1-30 and the other twenty don't get votes. Then you tabulate all the votes for each movie and make a top 32 bracket eliminating 16 of the movies listed. Then you put those movies into 8 pools of four with the top two making it to the final 16 then repeat with four pools of four to get top 8 then people could rerank the top 8 creating a ranking that you then sees into an eight movie bracket

Do this for 8 different categories of movies and then take the top 2 from each category and make a 16 movie overall bracket

Or you could just vote in the current one and debate at the very end ...

I did this for the best TV shows of all time tournament a few years back. It was a ton of excel work but honestly was kinda fun.

Ugh... now you made it impossible.

lol.

i mean i can't choose between those. Hmmmm.

Well I appreciate the attempt to rectify it anyway. I don't know who has any problem with you personally - it's not me that's for sure. Thanks for all your effort on this stuff. I. did some polls way back a few years ago on rock music mostly and it was such a beatdown i stopped doing it.

Good job!!!!!

I also did it for movies. I had people nominate movies in each decade for the 70s thru the 2000s and made a bracket for each with the top 16. If I remember correctly, the final four was Star Wars, Empire, Shawshank and Dark Knight. Empire won it all.

I did debut albums. That was fun.

Came down to these which was not surprising and represented each of the decades of 60s 70s 80s and 90s even though there was no requirement or bracket set up for that.

Led Zeppelin
Boston
Guns-n-Roses - WINNER
Pearl Jam

I did not do brackets that might have been different. I gave a few days for nominations then made a master list of 100+ in different genres. Then people got to vote for up to 12 of them to make the semifinals and the top 12 made the semifinals. Voters then got to choose 4 of those 12 and the top 4 made the final round.

But had it been head to head I'm not sure GnR would have beat Boston or Led Zeppelin. Those votes seemed split. Like most went either newer GNR/PJ or older classic rock Boston/LZ but more went for GNR than PJ by a wide margin while Boston/Zep were split evenly.

This page shows the final vote and some semifinal data etc.

Before looking, I would have said Shawshank over Gump. Forgot about Silence. Top 3 are good seedings.
