The best strategy to do a bracket like these on TexAgs is to post the bracket, then turn all your devices off for 23 hours and 59 minutes. Then post the results and the new bracket the next day without looking at all the idiots passionate comments.

When it's completely over, you can reflect back fondly on how irate everyone is that all the work you did on something that anyone else could do at anytime is so crappy and WTF is wrong with you. It's a treat!

He had to know the reaction those movies were receiving.

Man, people take their google form movie surveys made by random people over the internet with no bearing on literally anything really ****ing seriously. Lighten up, folks.

Just a reminder, the round of 64, featuring all four brackets, starts tomorrow morning and lasts until Monday around the same time. I'll probably bump it Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Braveheart has been given an automatic bye to the final, where it will face off against Dune from the 1980s bracket.

Office Space vs Home Alone is a killer one for me. Both are great for totally different reasons.

Single Muck says Office Space by a landslide. Dad Muck who had watched Home Alone 15-20 times with his kids in the last 3 years disagrees.

Even better, after 2 votes, Saving Private Ryan and Reality Bites were tied 1-1.
Then SRP got 115 votes in a row.

Toughest matchup of the round personally:
#8 The Fifth Element vs. #9 The Iron Giant

Literally two of my favorite movies.

Some of the seedings make me go "What?! No!" then you look at the rest of the group and there's not a lot to argue with. So many classics, this should be fun.

I can't get over how popular American Pie is.
Zombie Jon Snow

Even 1% for Reality Bites vs SPR is.....just....wow!!!!! That person should be banned.

And yeah Shawshank should have been a sweep too.... but Courage under Fire is good at least.

Oh God NO!!!!!!!

the comedy/ sci-fi and action brackets were not too tough for me. A few underdogs in each but mostly it was a clear choice for me....

But the drama bracket is now murderers row. All the lightweight movies are gone and the 16 left (minus Braveheart) are probably the movies I've watched the most of this entire list again and again for the last 20-30 years. We talked about how deep the drama bracket was.... it's gonna be impossible from here on out.

I mean some are a clear choice I guess but I also love the other one. Oof.

#1 Silence of the Lambs vs. #17 LA Confidential
The best thriller/suspense movie of the decade vs a film noir classic with a loaded cast

#2 Saving Private Ryan vs. #18 A Few Good Men
best war movie of the decade vs a really tight drama with loaded cast and a tour de force Nicholson performane

#3 The Shawshank Redemption vs. #19 Se7ven
many argue the best movie of the decade that flew under the radar initially vs a sleeper grisly cult classic crime noir that put David Fincher on the map

#4 Pulp Fiction vs. #13 Unforgiven
The Indy low budget Tarantino masterpiece against the best western in 30 years

#5 Forrest Gump vs. #12 Apollo 13
I mean Gump has it's detractors but it was pop culture touchstone against a Docudrama of a great story

#6 Fight Club vs. #11 Last of the Mohicans
Another Fincher low budget mind bender vs a classic historical period piece war/love story done really well

#7 Goodfellas vs. #23 Good Will Hunting
THE best Mob movie of the decade if not the last 30 years vs a really well written and acted infinitely watchable human condition dramatic piece that won Oscars for Robin Williams and Damon/Afleck as writers

#8 Schindler's List vs. #9 Fargo
Just a massive emotional Speilberg masterpiece that is gut wrenching vs an absolute cult classic Indy crime movie that solidified the Coens as filmmakers

I can't even choose in many cases. this is one where I have to vote twice. So on some matchups I can vote for both.

63 votes have been cast - 5 matchups are separated by fewer than 5 votes.

Only one matchup in the whole bunch has a movie with more than 90% of the vote.

It's neither of those.

RIght now one Sci-FI matchup and one Drama matchup are dead even at 50-50.

It's your age, you were probably barely too old to really like it, and that's ok. I think for those in the HS class of 98-2002 range that series is great

Exactly. People are going to be more passionate towards teen comedies that came out during their teens and a lot of people on this site were in that age range. I was a freshman in college when American Pie came out and I love it to this day.

I remember dying laughing at American Pie, if it came out in 99 I was 25, I saw it on a Friday night before tubing with friends from A&m on the Guadalupe. maybe Jim Carey fatigue is actually a real thing.

American Pie is the only movie I ever snuck in to. I was 16.

I guess it will always be a little special.

Just like Pitch Black, the only movie I ever left the theater in the middle.
