Whoop!!!!

100% matches my votes... oh wait no I voted for Kingpin over Wayne's World.

Wayne's World was funny at the time and better than most SNL skits made into movies but it doesn't age as well as Kingpin. That WW-speak is grating now and doesn't hold up.

Oh well. No biggie neither one was going far.

You have one entry messed up on the ballot. the title is incorrect on the voting bubble for #23 although the listing is correct above it.

#23 is Last Action Hero, not Tomorrow Never Dies

And speaking of dramas, the 90s have so many good ones. Good with that!

Face/Off vs. Batman Forever - I'm rooting for an injury-filled tie.

the drama region was the hardest by far to do. When I went year to year I had 54 entries for a field of 32. In fact, I had originally planned to do only 16 per field because the 80s bracket was such a head ache, but the amount of great dramas made that not an option.

Hey Muck, there's another mistake. You seeded Goldeneye at #32 and Tomorrow Never Dies above it.

Not to derail but ....yeah i've long maintained for dramas it is the best decade.

you had some amazing films and groundbreaking stuff with the indy movement etc.

I'm actually quite anal and have rated and ranked by decade every movie I have seen since 1990 actually. I went back and retroactively did the 70-s and 80s also.

But here are my top 24 drama films for the 90s - i suppose a couple of these might be action flicks but I left out clear action movies like The Matrix.

1. The Shawshank Redemption
2. Saving Private Ryan
3. The Silence of the Lambs - won the Big 5 AAs
4. Braveheart
5. Pulp Fiction - THE breakthrough indy film that changed movies and saved a career
6. GoodFellas
7. L.A. Confidential
8. The Last of the Mohicans
9. American Beauty
10. Schindler's List
11. A Few Good Men
12. The Hunt for Red October - maybe action?
13. The Usual Suspects
14. Reservoir Dogs
15. When We Were Kings - ok it's a documentary but it's a fascinating drama piece too
16. The Fugitive - maybe action?
17. Boyz N the Hood
18. Good Will Hunting
19. Se7en
20. The Sixth Sense
21. Dances With Wolves
22. Apollo 13
23. Fargo
24. Unforgiven

And that does not include some great movies and 5 AA winners for Best Picture (obviously not my favorites but still very good):

Titanic - won Best Picture
Unforgiven - won Best Picture
Forrest Gump - won Best Picture
Shakespeare in Love - won Best Picture but we all know #2 SPR was robbed
The English Patient - won Best Picture
Fight Club
Millers Crossing
Contact
The Firm
Twelve Monkeys
The Truman Show
As Good As it Gets
Misery
Quiz Show
Scent of a Woman
American History X
Jackie Brown
JFK
Sense and Sensibility

You could argue my ranking like anyones - the point is there are like 45+ really good ones in that decade that could be included in any 32 film bracket. And many good ones will be left out.

EDIT sorry I was thinking top 24 in bracket not 32... but still many will be left out.

I haven't had my coffee yet.

That seeding is shameful. Either you dislike Goldeneye more than most, or like Tomorrow Never Dies a lot more than most.

  • Get your coffee.
  • Sit down.
  • Deep breath.
  • I think Pierce Brosnan is a ****ty James Bond and I don't give a flip about any of those movies.
  • Daniel Craig's 007 makes Pierce look the way that Christian Bale's Batman compares to George Clooney.
  • I just shoved those 3 movies in there because I knew people like Bond.
  • I remember Tomorrow Never Dies the most because it has a great Star Wars reference in it.
  • None of the Bond movies had a shot in hell of making it out of the first round, unless they were matched against each other, so does the seeding really matter?

I'll put it in terms you will understand. You basically seeded Attack of the Clones above A New Hope.

I literally flipped a coin for the 1-32 matchup. GoldenEye is an amazing Bond film

Tomorrow Never Dies is the beginning of Brosnan's downward spiral.

True I had not thought about it that much because none of them were getting out of the first round but even just an IMDB ranking gives you:

Goldeneye 7.2
Tomorrow Never Dies 6.5
The World is Not Enough 6.4
Die another Day 6.1

with the Mendoza line of IMDB rankings at about 6.8 that's pretty accurate at least in order of best to worst.

Goldeneye at 32 has to be a mistake. It literally makes zero since to have it ranked that low and Tomorrow Never Dies at 17.

Goldeneye would've made it out of the first round easy if it wasn't criminally under seeded.

Here's some terms you can understand: If you want the seeds your way, do the contest yourself.

I meant based on the matchup. I just looked at each matchup not the relative ranking.

That goes to show Goldeneye would've easily made it to round 2. (As it should have.)

What will be fun is griping about movies left off of tomorrow's drama list that could have replaced about half of today's action list. Example: Heat

(Thanks Muck, these are fun.)

Tomorrow he'll leave off Pulp Fiction, claiming it didn't fall neatly under any category.

And you'll make a prediction about what wins the whole thing, and as usual, it will be wrong!

It always cracks me up that Minnie Driver is the Russian cabaret singer in goldeneye. It's just so random.
