Weird Al Yankovic.

Seen him twice in person. One was his last big tour with like 20 costume changes.. the other was his "unplugged" tour. Went VIP to the second and got to meet him. Me and my brother have a picture holding him up on our shoulders.

It was! They traded licks and Lloyd Maines joined in on pedal steel guitar, and held his own! It was awesome!

That Stone City link is awesome…will look later but got to ZZTop with Ratt opener in 1983 as my first arena show in 8th grade. Saw 'most' rock shows in 80's at SA convention center including Maiden's Powerslave.

Others to add:
- Hank III - high energy and he does a country & metal set, both fantastic live
- Waylon at Chilifest about 1992-1993-ish
- NIN at the Showcase in SA circa Jan 1991-ish (took 2 yr break from A&M)
- Front 242 / Nitzer Ebb / Revco / in addition to Skinny Pup/Ministry, etc - you have likely heard songs and didn't know them
- Thrill Kill Kult - they got arrested after Austin show had Jesus doing sex acts on stage for Days of Swine & Roses and had to push out SA show for two days (and was just vanilla once they did play in SA). I'm a Christian and bad taste/sacrilegious amd they were trying too hard for an act…
- Skatenigs (ok, not big act, but fun while they lasted)
- Red Hot and Snoop Dogg opened in Dallas - went for RHCP so didn't know but a couple of Snoop songs to begin with, but didn't recognize one song, was a funky, soul type vibe
KISS - sans makeup in 80's

Great username by the way.

I would loved to have seen Ratt but I did get to see their bass player Juan Croucier one night in Hollywood.

A different night down in Redondo, I got to meet Juan. That dude is a really nice guy and one of the best storytellers I've ever met.

And it wasn't until later that I found out he was the original bass player in Dokken. I had wrongly credited Jeff Pilson when I met him and told him I loved Paris is Burning.

This thread reminds me, I need to get out to more shows.

Saw Ratt twice on the Invasion of your Privacy tour.

For some reason there was a big gap between seeing them in Houston and seeing them in Austin. Months between.

Bon Jovi opened for them in Houston. This was December '85. They did a version of Santa Claus is Coming To Town.

Cinderella opened the next time.

They put on a good show but were not "great". Pearcy wasn't that great of a front man, and you needed that as a hair metal band in the 80's.

He sang ok but seemed uncomfortable making eye contact with the crowd.

Juan was excellent. What first intrigued me about Ratt was the fact that they had great backup vocals. No other metal bands back then had that. Juan had a great voice and was great on stage.

I have seen a video of Dokken playing in Europe, Germany I think, when Juan was still the bass player.

Warren DeMartini was killer. Dude nailed everything.

Robbin Crosby did a short solo that was mostly whammy bar stuff. But he was good on stage and did everything he was supposed to do.

Saw them again in '99 with Poison and Great White. I think Warren and Steven were the only original members in that lineup. They were good although Steven Pearcy couldn't sing all the notes anymore.
Warren had not lost a shred of his skill. He tore it up.

I've seen Ratt many times. Went backstage twice. Both times Warren told me he liked my ZoSo hat.

Well a ZoSo hat is a pretty cool hat.

He was probably jealous.

You and I were at the same ZZ Top/Ratt show. Apparently, we were at quite a few of the same shows because I'm from San Marcos and all of the shows that I went to back then were at the SA Convention Center.

ETA…I was at the Powerslave show also.

Saw RATT at Fort Worth's Caravan of Dreams... believe it was their first tour after Robin passed.

Is was epic to see RATT in a relatively small venue.

Also saw Slash's Snake Pitt at Caravan.

They played s 5-song acoustic set in my high school library in 2001.

An ex-gf's cousin's the bass player. Saw them at SXSW years ago and drank a few beers with them after their set. Cool guys.

Scanning this thread, Bob Dylan and Weezer were mentioned. Seen both. I'll add Toadies, though likely not alone on that one. And The Rolling Stones three times.

Chick Corea and the big band version of Return To Forever, at Hofheinz Pavilion in Houston, circa 1977.
One of the most phenomenal live performances I've ever seen.

No, that lineup didn't include a guitarist. The only other original member besides Chick was Stanley Clarke on bass. Chick's wife, Gayle Moran, was featured on keyboards and vocals. They also had a kickass five-piece horn section. If I remember correctly, they played everything from their Musicmagic album, plus lots of other stuff.

One highlight was when Chick was playing an extended piano solo, and just abruptly stopped. He then said: "Hey, all you guys who are just walking around back there like you're at a baseball game or something, you're a big distraction. So, please either sit down, or leave." I'm paraphrasing, but think I got pretty close to what he said. It was great.

Motörhead in 1982 at what was the Hammersmith Odeon in London. It. Was. Loud.

Saw ZZ Top the same year at the same venue on their El Loco tour but they have already been mentioned.

Maybe some who have not been mentioned include:

Supertramp at the Summit
The Romantics at the Summit. That was a terrible show.
Heart at the Summit

I saw Billy Squier at LaTech when I was in 6th grade. I believe I was 10 years old. My friend's mom took us and she was our middle school teacher. She took the roach that was being passed and sent it down the line before we could ask any questions. Haha!

Others that many may have not seen:

Ministry
Skinny Puppy
Gomez (huge in Europe, lesser known is the States).

I've seen tons of bands, but won't list because most likely a) people have probably seen them, or b) they are big in and well known in there genre but there genre isn't mainstream - i.e. Skinny Puppy
