A friend of mine was playing in a Latin Rock band up at Universal Studios and invited me to come up and watch them on Friday, September 15th, 2006. I thought cool, I'll go see a Latin Rock band on Friday night.

After his performance, we hung out and had drinks.

At midnight, this mariachi band came out and that's when I figured out that after midnight, it became Dieciseis de Septiembre (still no Spanish character support on the TexAgs)

Circa '87... saw Eric Johnson at a small venue called Eastgate Live in College Station.

Had a front row seat.

Good stuff.

Gary Allen had multiple hits and was all over the radio in 2004, maybe he just made an appearance at a small venue, but he was established.
Yeah, it was just before he got big again. It must have been 2003? His name was on the flier as "Gary Allen presented by Corey Morrow" and we had maybe 60 of 80 chairs filled at the restaurant.

In spring of 2001 I went to see a friend of mine play an acoustic show at a small club in Austin. About halfway through the set he said, "I'm going to have my friend Dan join me for the rest of the set." Dan Auerbach then joined him on stage. No one knew who he was.

Don't know that he qualifies as famous, but he was nominated for a Grammy...

Saw a poorly attended picker's circle style concert on a freezing night in Luckenbach. One of the players was a gangly kid named John Fullbright. Holy cow is he talented.

It was so cold there were maybe 30 people there. Turns out a good portion of the audience were musicians that had come down from Oklahoma.

Elvis at the Dome in the early 70s, maybe 1972 or 73. But I don't doubt that there are others here who have seen Elvis.

Another one I remembered is the time in early 2004 when I got to see Styx playing a radio event called "Jim Ladd's Living Room" at the Hard Rock Cafe at Universal City Walk.

It's now a high end chocolate place.

That night was awesome because they had both Dennis DeYoung and Tommy Shaw on vocals.

In case you don't know who Jim Ladd is, he was the DJ on 95.5 KLOS who Tom Petty used as the inspiration for his song "The Last DJ".

Mighty mighty bosstones at fitzgeralds in 2000 or 2001. 30 foot fall opened, and that dude who got all the tattoos and body mods to look like a lizard was there

Probably some pretty good sized death metal bands.

Hatebreed. Singer used to host the metal show on mtv.

Maybe some old punk and hardcore bands.

62 strat and MAYBE know your enemy may have seen some of these bands. Most of these are probably not really what OP was talking about though.

How about shows I worked though? Maroon 5 gave me a cooler dull of beer. Slayer gave me their drum heads and I sold them on ebay. R Kelly got in my way while riding a Segway around the Toyota center floor. I had tonturn and face the wall when his majesty prince was driven through the tunnels of Toyota center. *****. Was THIS CLOSE to getting a used WWE wrestling mat from one of their trucks. Probably could have sold that for a mint.
woah that was weird. I'm reading, see hatebreed mentioned, I'm like, hah yeh my band OPENED for hatebreed.

But then I see I get the nod

Def metal bands.
I saw dissection, who is defunct since 2006 and hasn't played the US since the 90s. Morbid angel at the same show.

Saw original pantera a few times which, not saying I'm the only one, but it's a small pool of people that are pretty much all over 40.

My wife's life long childhood friend saw nirvana.

I wasn't giving you ****, I was pointing out something funny because 30 foot fall isn't exactly bringing down the house or anything. They are best known for playing on Christmas to a bunch of losers with no family.

Ha yea I know you have seen a ton of older metal shows. I struggle to remember all the shows I went to. I used to have a bunch of old flyers but I cant find them anymore unfortunately.

I saw the earth crisis reunion in Syracuse and the suicide file reunion with bane in Boston. I wore a **** YALL IM FROM TEXAS shirt to that one and was stagediving off the stacks on stage. That was such an awesome show.

I opened up for earth crisis as well!

I don't remember half of them either. I def remember the first one, opening for hatebreed at fitz, and the last one, opening up for suicidal tendencies at numbers!

I'll add one that may be a bit under the radar, System of a Down.

As big as they are, they only played about 10 shows in Texas after the club days. And none since 2006.

I saw them at numbers open for fear factory in 90s, and again at woodlands in 2006, their last show in Texas.

Maybe a thread of 'who have you seen at a club/before they were big' might be good one.

When I met my wife i was at a deer tick show in Cambridge and went in to the bar next door to get a drink and ran in to Pearce and dance floor Justin who were both in like 10 different bands up in Boston and Aaron Bedard and Greg from Mental. Aaron Bedard turned in to a dubstep dj for a while and I definitely have some of his tracks. The world is a wild place.

Saw SRV at the Bronco Bowl Dallas when I was 6yo. The opening acts were Omar and the Howlers, and The Fabulous Thunderbirds. It was loud and probably awesome

Anyone else seen Barbara Mandrell and the Mandrell Sisters (saw at Six Flags amphitheater)? What about The Everly Brothers (saw at some open air venue in DFW)? Some things I got dragged to as a kid, lol

Just led me down a mental rabbit hole which reminded me that I saw Meat Loaf in Sydney. Meat really has no ability to sing by that time in his career. Probably 10 years ago.

And that reminds me about the fact that I saw Lil Wayne with Birdman open for Eminem in Sydney. The first act was Hilltop Hood Hoods but unfortunately, we got there later than I wanted to and we had to go to the opposite side of the stadium to get in. So I could hear them playing but couldn't see the show.

I saw Eminem on a side stage at warped tour. Those first couple warped tours probably would qualify as seeing a ton of bands before they got huge. Those were loaded with good bands.

They opened for Fishbone at Stafford Opera House in '93 or so. Awesome show, way better than headliner.

I know a lot have seen Corey Morrow, but I saw a very early gig at Firehouse Saloon with his Memorial High buddies.

Some old random shows -- Bangles and Hooters at Six Flags,
Maynard Ferguson at some college auditorium with my parents -- may have been at Rice.
