Snow White in weekend #4 in the US finished in 8th at the box office behind Minecraft, King of Kings, The Amateur, Warfare, Drop, The Chosen - Last Supper Part 3, and a Working Man.

Minecraft in 2 weeks is at $279M domestic while Snow White in 4 weeks is at $82M domestic.

Just incredible.

Minecraft's budget was $150 million, so probably $225-$250 million in total costs. It's at $550 million worldwide already, so even with theater takes it's already hit break even. Crazy how these are complete polar opposites.

Only $150 million budget? With that cast and all that CGI?

Hopefully this tanks Zegler's acting career. She was awful in Y2K and looks like she isn't much better in this

Think she's learned not to mix politics and business?

That's what basically everywhere has reported. Looking at Snow White, you really have to wonder where $270 million went.

My 5 y/o little girl is currently in her Disney princess phase but has no desire to see Snow White. She does want to see Minecraft though. I've shown here the trailers for the mother live action remakes, Mulan, Little Mermaid and none of those appeal to her either. She can't get enough of the animated ones though.

This post on X makes the point I've been making for awhile now about Iger's Disney ... but makes it much better.

I mean. I think it's kinda cute and a nice call back to the original poster. Is this really a big deal? It's a poster that almost no one will see.

My kids are older now, but the only live action movie they ever enjoyed in that phase was the Jungle Book. You might try that one. Really well done

Box office update...

It made $1.2 million in it's 5th weekend, bringing the domestic total to $84.5 million so far. That brings it past The Marvels in domestic box office, but it is still behind and will likely never catch The Marvels' international box office. I think it finishes about $1.5-$2 million above The Marvels domestically ($86-$87 million), but it'll fall maybe $15 million short overall. It'll make about $1 million more this week, then drop from a lot of theaters and into the five figures a day range next week. Internationally I think it's about done. No figures for this weekend yet, but it's basically slowed to nothing. I think it finishes at $103-$105 million internationally and $190-$193 million overall.

<$500k this weekend. Probably in for a bunch of <$100k weekdays from here on out and a trickle of revenue for a couple of weeks. I thought international would be lower, but Box Office Mojo was just behind in updating the international numbers. It'll probably finish closer to $110-$115 million internationally and $87 million domestic. Right around $200 or just under overall.

As many in this thread predicted, by Hollywood standards, this movie bombed. By Disney standards it was the fourth worst (not including Mulan covid release) movie of all time (and DIsney has made a film or two). Ouch.

An interesting note in the article below is the UK subsidized around $65 million in production cost as an incentive to film / produce the movie in the UK. So from a pure perfomance basis, the movie did even worse.

Should end the experiment of hiring leading ladies that look like they've been drug behind a bus for a week.

The idea that Snow White somehow recouped a crap ton of money from merchandise and DVD sales is laughable. If it didn't sell seats, it isn't selling merch. All things considered, that movie easily lost $250-$300 million.

Add 100M more for marketing costs to the loss
ABATTBQ11

That includes a conservative estimate for marketing. Total net cost after UK subsidies was around $275 million. Based on box office and estimated splits, they saw maybe $100 million in revenue. That's a $175 million loss. Add in a $75-$125 million marketing campaign, and that's $250-$300 million. It might be on the low end because they saw the writing on the wall and seemed to half ass it before release.

I had totally forgotten about this movie and was surprised when looking at this thread that it came out less than a year ago.

Don't let a woke uggo female who can't keep her mouth shut be the face of your movie, Disney.

Oops I called her a female. I guess that makes me an incel.
