How would blowing up the pipeline benefit us, the EU, or NATO?

It doesn't, IMO.

It doesn't but it benefits the globalist. The US President said he was going to do.

It doesn't really matter if he is blaming or thanking. He's hanging this around our necks. And he's no crackpot twitter conspiracy theorist. This guy is well connected. He was also defense sec for Poland so he has lots of high-level military and spook contacts in the US government. He heaped a crap ton of credibility on the idea that the US destroyed a pipeline. There are a lot of consequences for the US.

What the hell is this twitdick spouting on about?
Former PM of Poland blaming the US for sabotaging the NS pipeline is how I read it.
No, that is Anne Applebaum's husband... She is the biggest Russia hater in media. He is sincerely thanking the US for sabotaging Russia's pipeline.

Anyone who thinks Russia did this is being emotional and not thinking.

Russia is instituting a draft. Russia is shutting its border. Russia is ordering iodine pills. Putin has said nuclear weapons are possible. It's happening folks. And we are egging it on. The people in power hate our country.

You're probably right. The fallout with crushing the Euro economy and dragging us down alongside is not trivial. Freezing Europeans to death never a good idea IMO

Biden didn't need to act because Germany shut down Nord Stream 2 all on its own.

Actually I don't think he was a PM but a deputy PM but he has held several positions in the Polish defense dept. He's more than a journalist's husband. He is a big Russia and Germany hater. He probably was sincere and he probably knows it's true or he wouldn't have said it publicly which is still a major issue for US foreign policy and exposes us to the financial responsibility for the pipelines.

But now no one can turn it on. There is a manufactured food and energy crisis going on. This is simply just another step of it all.

No one addresses the question of "why"?

Russia already shut down Nordstream 1 and Germany already shut down Nordstream 2. So, sabotage doesn't further alter the EU or global energy market.

Nordstream gas still remains off as before, Europe still has no plans to restart either pipeline after the Ukraine war is settled--even if the pipelines are intact--and why would Russia destroy its sunk investment and eliminate any possibility of future gas contracts thru Nordstream while further motivating the EU to find alternative suppliers.

I still don't see who stands to gain.

45" pipeline, 1.6" wall thickness at about 500-1000' of cold ass water. Just fyi
When I was a undergrad, I heard a presentation from a consulting firm about ocean floor pipelines. A supermajor wanted to know the costs to build a structure that would protect a pipeline sitting across a shipping channel bottom from a shipping container falling off a cargo ship. So they did a huge risk analysis, FEA studies on various shielding designs, opportunity cost losses + environmental costs of clean up.

Conclusions were that shielding that was thick enough to resist a cargo container would have been hundreds of millions of dollars to install from the platform to the on shore terminal. But a strike would cause billions in clean up costs and 10s of billions in lost revenue while they repaired. While cargo falls off ships all the time, what a game of bullseye here!

The supermajor decided 'lets just not drop anything on the pipe and put up signs telling others to do the same.' Lets staple the cover sheet on this TPS report and declare this risk mitigated.

So if there are a bunch of cargo containers specifically placed on the seabed crushing these pipes, I've seen the smoking gun powerpoint slide deck.

Some Germans have been protesting for the re-opening of the pipeline. I believe there were even protests yesterday before the news hit. To think there would not have been significant political pressure from the German people this winter is probably incorrect, but that's out the window.

I don't think the people in power hate our country. I think they've fallen victim to the same notion many other Americans are afflicted with. They think Globalization is somehow better than Nationalism. Maybe they think Globalization is inevitable and they want to be the one picking teams rather than the one left out if teams are picked by someone else.

If we're egging it on, we'd better be ready. Russia & China working together would definitely leave a mark.

Question seems to be, were we stupid enough to do it after we said we would or were we just stupid enough to say we would and put a giant ass target on our back unnecessarily?

Controlled enough by people with interests of a weakened US, weakened Russia and weakened Europe

Let's stop and think about this. The country that is letting 100s of thousands of illegals invade it, went from exporting to importing of energy, is creating hyper inflation, ignoring the constitution, destroying geopolitical goodwill, empowering Iran and China is all of sudden standing up to Russia for the good of America and Europe?

I keep seeing people it can't be America because America doesn't benefit. America hasn't benefitted from anything the moment Biden was sworn in.

How dense do you have to be? Germany voluntarily shut it down and just as easily could have turned it back on when protests from their citizens ramp up when winter comes and they endure Biden's cold winter of death(TM). And in exchange for turning it back on, they would have made huge concessions to Putin, perhaps even cutting Ukraine loose and pressuring the rest of the EU to do the same.

If some fatty has a chocolate cake on the counter but decides not to eat it, I guess you think that means the overeating problem is solved. But when that person is "starving" and sees that cake right in front of them and all they have to do is eat it to be satisfied, we'll then was the problem really solved?

Someone who wants to make sure the German's don't cut a separate peace with Putin just threw the chocolate cake in the trash. Problem solved.

Who stands to gain? Who wants the war to continue with EU support as well? Poland. Other Eastern European states who won't go under the Russian yoke again. The US perhaps (10% for the big guy ya know and all the defense contractors). Ukraine.

Lots of people can benefit. Not Germany and not Russia. So look elsewhere.

Lol. Fan fiction. Did they borrow or steal a Russia sub like in hunt for red October too? This was professionally destroyed. Does not look like the work of Russians.

So you admit you're viewing this with a bias that it's impossible a state did this. That's a bad way to analyze data.

I don't understand how people can't at least accept the possibility the NeoCons in the US/NATO took down NS2 to force a war; a war they've been wanting since the cold war.

1. Apparently the damaged areas are not that deep. 100m or so. Accessible by any highly trained and properly equipped diver. You don't even need an ROV or sub.

2. If this was sabotage, the idea was evidently to remove the option of turning the gas back on easily with winter coming on. It will depend on what is found when the damage is examined. Minor damage and it may be reasonably easily repaired at moderate depths. We'll have an idea of accident or sabotage based on the actual damage very quickly.
