Texas needs to redraw again. Limit the Dems to one seat to neutralize VA. Every red state needs to re-draw immediately.

No they didn't, and those who keep saying this prove they're just as uninformed as we already knew they were, which is why they vote for a party that celebrates mental illness and not enforcing our laws at the expense of Americans.

The best part is that it proves that for Dems, the ends ALWAYS justify the means. They were calling out Republicans for this, calling it a "blight on democracy." And yet, their response is to DO EXACTLY THE SAME THING BUT WORSE.

Both of you are massively ignorant or lying. Why not both since you are likely Democrats.

Your lies have already been proven false in this very thread.

Your posts are why we can't compromise with you anymore.

No…WORSE. You're totally fine with disenfranchising almost half the voters in a state. A 52-46 state shouldn't have an 88% majority.

So you believe that each state should have representation consistent with its popular vote? I happen to agree.

It should be within the ballpark in Congress.

The Electoral College exists for a very different reason that I'm sure you still fail to grasp.

You people have no problem violating the Constitution or trying to change it when you can't win otherwise. It's quite amusing for those of us that live in reality.

There is a vast difference between disaffected rural voters (living outside of large population centers) and complete disenfranchisement of those voters as what has happened here. They will now have zero representation.

Must be a very small group of friends, and no, they aren't successful. I'm sure your definition of that and mine are very different.

You vote for promoting mental illness and support a President violating his constitutional oath. That's insane, and nobody that's actually intelligent does that.

The term Gerrymander predates the existence of the Republican party.

Maybe instead of FAFO, you should try RLFO - Read a Little and Find Out.

The amount of cognitive dissonance one must possess to not connect very easy dots from redistricting Texas because its not fair to this Virginia election just bottles the mind. I'm on team stop gerrymandering and draw nonpartisan maps and let the chips fall.

You carve up the blue city centers. Have you seen the new VA map? 5 different districts include a northern section that's like a 5 mile radius.

Carve up Houston and Dallas and San Antonio like wise. Inside 610 in Houston gets carved up! No more Dem reps.

Even more exaggerated that this to get your numbers.

Sucks but we are in a Prisoner's Dilemma.

The point is still the same. In 2021esque blowout election (Youngkin) these new districts could completely screw over the democrats when the suburbs shift wildly to Republicans. Similarly Texas's redistricting doesn't actually seem like a good idea given the current shift away from republicans. Gerrymandering assumes that very fluid situations remain static and that hasn't held for any election ever.

I don't think states should be doing these gerrymanders that totally take away representation of the true electorate.

BUT(And I just looked it up to verify), SCOTUS has ruled that partisan gerrymanders are a political questions that federal courts cannot resolve, thus deferring to state legislatures.

If the Republicans can finally grow a spine, the Democrats will lose the redistricting race.

Quote:

According to simulations run by FiveThirtyEight's "Atlas of Redistricting" projectwhich modeled this exact scenario of a nationwide partisan gerrymandering arms racethe resulting 435-seat House map would look roughly like this:
    Republicans: ~262 seats
    Democrats: ~173 seats

Republicans also have low-hanging fruit when it comes to redistricting. Because Democratic voters are heavily clustered in urban areas, mapmakers can easily pack them into a small number of deep-blue districts, essentially wasting their surplus votes outside the urban centers.

I'm not a lawyer, but I can't get past the legality of the question posed on the ballot measure. That goes beyond a political maneuver for gerrymandering right?

Malibu

Sorry to be a little pedantic but this isn't necessarily accurate. In suburban districts and a state like Massachusetts is a good example of this, Republicans and Democrats are fairly randomly distributed by household and are not clumped together. In these cases you can't draw a partisan map because that would rely on having a household by household map and even in 60-40 split state you can still end up with a 100% one-party controlled map and have fairly drawn lines.

Unfortunately, not really. Really have to screw up the wording to have a court overturn solely on that basis. (Outside of the 9th Circuit at least.)
