If the pick ends up being Downs, he isn't just a safety for us, he's that Nickel player that's been mentioned multiple times.

At this point the focus immediately shifts to Edge & LB for our next couple of picks and CB is now more of a 5th round option.

I'd still love to pair Downs with J-Rod or possibly CJ Allen. Those would be your future defensive captains and the on field generals of your front 7 and your back end for years to come.

Optimistic - they trade up and take Sonny Styles/Downs. I think they have to get ahead of 5 or Giants take Downs.

Realistic - they sit, everything is cleaned out, they take an OT at 12 and S from Toledo at 20.

I was just on the phone with my buddy saying this. Almost all of my team is mexican. they gather on Sundays to watch the cowboys. I can't even be a little negative about being frustrated with Dak over the years. I leave that shade for you guys on this board.

I do sort of believe and I'm pumped for tonight (even if I'm ultimately let down). And I do believe that Dallas, like most teams, has very good intel on who teams are likely to take. If they do sit still at #12, it might be because they know there is a very good chance their guy is going to fall.

I heard on a podcast - Dallas has had 37 1st and 2nd round picks since 2014 and they've only traded up 1 time in all those years despite all the hooplah every year that Jerry's going to make moves. That trade up was for Lawrence in 2014.

And look how that played out. He has been a good to great Pro for over a decade and was a major contributor on the last Super Bowl team

It took a few years for him to become someone, but I hear you. Also, that wasn't a trade up into the top part of this draft.

But point taken, ok... lol

edit: just looked back at stats. I guess year 2 he had 8sacks and then maybe injured in year 3. I remember hoping he was going to be good for a long time.

Dream scenario, I'd like to see us get Downs at 12, KC Conception at 20. Other dream scenario would be Love falling to 12, by some miracle, then we go defense with pick 20, but that's not going to happen.

If we sit and pick at both spots, yeah, it's very likely we are doing a slight reach with both picks.


But man, if we aren't going to move up for one of the premier guys, then I'd sure like it if we at least tried to move back at one of those picks and add another top 100 pick.

I think so.

Then you can sit at 12, and if a defender you like is there, you take him, and fill WR later.
But…if the top defenders are gone, you can happily take a stud WR and fill the defense with the volume of picks you now have.

We gave away a 3rd rounder for him... Anything above and beyond that in return is a great trade!

You don't expect to replace what Pickens did last year with a rookie, not even close... But the cap is a real thing and this is how you navigate it.

Just another level of "what if" for tonight and I'm here for it.

Oh look, Pickens signed his tag. Just like Dallas knew he would because he has no leverage and has to either play it out or wait for a trade to a team that will sign him.

He'll have the inside track because he's gonna be some teams kick/punt returner. He has a direct avenue to the field that most players don't.

That being said it's hard to see it not being Love unless he goes somewhere with a dual backfield

Dallas played it they way they should and Pickens should be a model citizen thats extremely productive.

If the cowboys want to win NOW, they should keep him on the tag and go for it this year. I'm all for building for the future and trading him for draft picks, because I don't ultimately believe they can win it all. But, they do, and if they do they should keep Pickens for 1 year, they should trade 2027 for more picks in the top part of this draft and they should go all in.
