How we feeling about first day of free agency? I know Jerry has talked a big game, but I'm worried once they see the numbers coming out on deals they're going to lose the stomach for the fight and go back to bargain bin shopping as usual.

Schefter just updated that we are only sending a 2027 fourth round pick which is much more like it. I thought I was taking crazy pills for a second.

Gary is a fine addition and a good start to free agency.
That now leaves us with a starting LB and "nickel" in terms of "have to" players to sign going into the draft.
If we can keep the early momentum going and get it done we can feel a lot better about drafting BPA.

The guy went to Michigan. Cowboys haven't had much luck with players from there.

That part seems a bit too high. A 5th or a 6th would have been a bit more ideal. But this got the deal done (over other teams that were certainly in the mix). It also locks him into his current base salary which isn't terrible and can now be tweaked. Probably saves us a little vs him hitting the open market.

Jourdan Lewis was pretty solid.
Luke Schoonmaker is serviceable at best but not worthy of a 2nd round pick.
Taco Charlton & Mazi Smith were just straight up busts.

And the Saints are signing Etienne, so that's another team in front of the Cowboys that should be passing on Love.
In my opinion, that leaves Tennessee, NYG and Washington as the only three teams with a serious argument to take Love ahead of the Cowboys.

Draft related: This right here is why usually (not always) you can count on guys like Downs and Sonny Styles to fall in the draft. Gosh darn QBs, WRs, CBs, OT and pass rushers make so much flipping money that you just cannot justify taking a Safety or a LB top 10 when you can get a (projected) 1,000 yard WR on a cheap 5 year deal.

Dallas is working on Jalen Thompson and Nakobe Dean as priorities and I would expect Dallas to sign BOTH. They are also working on a Trey Hendrickson deal however the financials would have to be right as they aren’t willing to overpay due to injury concerns.
If they can pull this off, the talent level on the defense just got so much better.

Hendrickson isn't happening. He'd have to REALLY want to play for Dallas and take significantly less money to make it work.... I'm not aware of any reason why he would want to play here / give a discount.
Dean makes a ton of sense given the need and he's a CP guy. Feels like a natural fit. Thompson is also a guy that the Cowboys (despite the "no tampering" period) have made known they covet and so I think there is a good chance here as well.
EDIT: Cowboys moving faster than I can type... Thompson is in! I forgot that our new DB coach was also in AZ so this move was also an easy fit.
