Delane yes but Downs is a safety, no?

I still think they both go in the top ten and Dallas needs to trade up to get one.

I agree with you if they use downs as a traditional safety. if they can use him as a hybrid, safety, big nickel against teams like the Eagles or the Giants and what they're gonna be and with the NFL becoming more physical it could be a good fit

The top 5 (Vegas, NJ, AZ, TN, NY) are going to dictate what Dallas does. There is a chance (slim) that only 1 defender (edge) goes top 5... there is also a chance that 4 of those 5 picks are defense.

The scary part for Dallas is that pick 11 (Miami) is in sell/rebuild/get more picks mode. Everybody knows who Dallas likes and if a player falls it would be pretty easy to jump us.

I'm liking KC as a trade partner more and more. We trade swap 12 & 20 for their 9 & 29 which makes a ton of sense for both teams if KC is targeting offense. If, for example, Downs is your guy... don't wait, just go get him.

There no way I would spend a 1st on a 25 year old player, with one season of elite production. Only time I would even consider a player that old is 3rd round or later.

That's perfect for us but we don't have that kind of luck.

Bruce Feldman on The Ryen Russillo Show just said this draft stinks and he wouldn't be surprised if there's only like three guys he thinks that will be elite NFL players lol. Yikes.

So the word going around with Bain is he got in a car wreck a couple years ago. Put a person into a comma and they later died. He wasn't drunk or anything, but it happened.

Apparently teams have known this for a long time. Doesn't necessarily hurt his stock, but he's already a guy with arms shorter than any player ever drafted in round 1.

He was the driver of a car that got hit by someone else. The person who died was his passenger. The reckless driving citation was dismissed and the other driver was eventually found at fault.

It's a sad story but, from a character standpoint, a nothing burger.

The version that I heard was that a teammate was in his car. They both were fine and that teammate transferred the next year. Heard that teams were in communication with that guy to get the story.

Anyway, sounds like multiple versions of the story are going around, but you are correct that charges against him were dropped.

The word is teams weren't super happy with how he responded or answered questions about it. Doesn't sound like a huge red flag, but there is no such thing as a nothing burger during the draft.

Why would he not be ready? That will be a whole 18-19 months post ACL. What are their reasons?

Heard more talk about this (McCoys knee) today. There are still teams (more than 1) that don't think his knee is 100% medically. It only takes 1 team to draft him, but it's starting to sound like we shouldn't be surprised if he slides a bit.

With this and the Bain talk going around, the "elite" defenders in this draft might be down to 5... How wild is it that 3 of them are Ohio State!

Seems like the trade up smoke is really starting to billow. Heard a Dane Brugler mock yesterday where the Cowboys trade 12 and 20 to Tennessee for 4 and their 3rd to come up and get Sonny Styles. Could probably pull the same deal with Arizona to come up and get Reese. Think I would pull that trigger.

If you can get a 3rd back, yes, I would def do that.

came to post the trade up smoke as well. Fully support the move slightly up and pick up a later pick. Someone needing OT like KC would be perfect. They still might be cleaned out by 9...

It'll be cleaned out by 12 for sure. Maybe they leaked the Bain story again to help him slide.

Yes, the trade up smoke is indeed real. Teams needing defense really want to get inside the top 10.... teams that need offense really want to get to the 10-20 range.

I'm personally not walking away from pick #20 to do it though. I'm fine pick swapping with Cleveland at 6 (we get 6, 24 & they get 12, 20 & maybe our 4th or 5th) or a trade with KC (we get 9, 29 & they get 12, 20).

The ONLY discussion I would entertain to trade up TN would be to get their 2nd rounder #35 for our #20. We would have to kick in a day 3 pick on top, but that's fine. I do not want to turn pick #20 into a 3rd rounder. We walked away from Micah for that pick, I need that pick to go no lower than the 30's so I can get 2 immediate starters on defense out of this draft!

Some of this I might have said before so apologies if I'm a broken record, I love / do a lot of Draft Talk and can't always keep straight what I specifically post on TexAgs.

Even if we aren't cleaned out, there is a real possibility of a team in the mid/late teens jumping up to Miami's spot to steal our guy. It's no secret who the Cowboys covet... we are a prime target to get jumped.

Moving up makes a ton of sense... be the jumper not the jumpee!?! The possibility of jumping in front of Washington or Cincy to steal their guy sounds a helluva lot better than sitting there and watching Tampa or MN move to #11 and swiping our guy.

Cowboys seem to always get jumped and the guy we want poached...

I think David Bailey makes way too much sense for the Cowboys. He's a perfect fit in this defense and one of 4 or 5 legit blue chip NFL draft prospects (meaning I think he would challenge to go top 5 in MOST NFL drafts). Obviously don't sell your soul for one player when you need a little more than one player, but if the price is right I have no problem moving into the top five. We need game changing defensive talent and Bailey is one of those imo.

I hate any trade talk that requires us to give up our other 1st.

This defense isn't good with 1 player. Bailey isn't the savior and I was a Bailey guy months and months ago when someone was saying he had short arms and was too light and a bust.

The cowboys need to show some discipline and just let the board come to them.

with this many holes I generally don't like trading up, but Miami is in a full rebuild and is likely to trade down to allow us to get jumped, so this may pressure us to move up. Lots of candidates to trade with.

I have no issue with Dallas talking with TN & NY right now, but if their demands are #20 straight up, then I'm with you, I'm out! And I have no reason to believe they would move for less... #12 is a long drop and it's not happening for cheap.

So yes, we will have to let the draft come to us... but at some point if the right player falls far enough, we have to be ready to move up when the cost is manageable.

On David Bailey: It seems most are pretty confident he's going to the Jets at 2. The feeling is they need a sure thing for this coaching staff and GM and Arvell Reese is more of a projection that they can't afford to be wrong on.

Reese then falls to the Cardinals and they aren't real excited about trying their luck on another projection/tweener due to their recent history with Deone Buchanon, Isaiah Simmons, and Zaven Collins. If that's the case they probably go Mauignoa to sure up the OLine for a future QB. unless they find a trade partner.

Again, if you want to trade I down into the top ten, it's gonna cost you.

However, we can discuss how the picks fall all we want - and it is fun, but I'd bet there will be no trades in or out of the top ten until the draft gets rolling.

With Mendoza obviously going at 1, everything gets cooking after the second pick and increases every pick after that as it becomes clear who's left to go and the behind the scenes phone calls / deals are being made.

Chiefs may have absolutely no desire to trade #9 until #7 is selected and they know then they will get one of 5 of their targets at 12. Conversely, Dallas might be more swayed to give up more now that they know their target is guaranteed at 9.

Obvious stuff, but bottom line is nothing will start to happen until after pick 2.

I'd bet there are no top ten trades tho…

I would trade the two firsts to get Reese or Styles. We don't have depth, but we also don't have difference makers.

It's been said many times, but this is not a deep draft. There are like 5 players worth having. Go get one of those guys instead of taking a shot on Faulk, Mesidor, or a Toledo safety at 20. You could also risk being completely wiped out of any good players at 12.

Yeah, it sure appears the top end talent on D for this draft is not good.

As Ty said above, most years, sitting at 12 and 20 will give you two quality players. I'm not so sure that's the case this year. I think there's a good chance you get a good player at 12, but I think 20 is a real dead area, esp for defense.

Vessel

Yeah, right now it looks like absolute best case scenario is either Delane or McCoy at 12. But if the Cowboys don't want to risk it with McCoy, then you gotta be proactive.

I don't know if I would say that... I would say it's more like the top end O talent isn't very good, so the top end defensive talent just isn't going to stretch this year.

That's not what I'm hearing (which isn't any more right/wrong than what you might be hearing).

I do agree that I don't think Dallas or really any team will be trading before the bullets start flying, but the word I'm hearing is that there are at least a couple teams in the top 10 wanting to bail.

There are GMs sitting in the top 10 that don't want to be the A-hole that reaches for a LT who plays OK year 1. They'd rather be the GM that picks the LT who plays OK and at the same time got more draft ammo.

Styles stock is climbing. Some think Mendoza is a bit overrated and the Raiders might bypass him.
