Yeah, plenty of good videos and online din calculators. I tried several and there must be a good industry standard formula they all use because my results at several different calculators online were consistent.

All you need is a screw driver or two for most bindings, and of course the boots. Gripwalk type Marker bindings are pretty easy. I'd guess other brands are too.

I've never skied Marker (Pivot/Shifts/ATK or GTFO).

But beyond DIN, all my alpine bindings require AFD adjustment that's specific to your boot's GripWalk. It's not hard, but another factor. Pivot's also have forward adjustment pressure that has to be dialed.

Yeah, I'm in the other camp. Don't stonegrind your brand new skis. It's not significant, but each grind removes material and shortens the life of the ski. Also, waste of $.

True: your bases will not be perfectly level and you'll have some concavity in the rocker section. True: structure will not be geo specific. True: you will probably not notice a difference. You'll know if your ski is railed by the second turn. If so, warranty, not stonegrind, imo.

Wax new skis for temp and to set a better structure than factory. Grab a red gummy and detune as needed on the hill throughout the first day. Imo, you should not detune RipSticks at all.

Shop grind, base, bevel, edge at the end of each season (wait for shop deals) + storage wax. Base clean and new wax to kick off the season. I'll wax again mid-season or as needed, just depends on conditions and ski volume. I have a set of Swix diamonds / tuning tool, but it's just to freshen edges. Resetting bevel requires a stonegrind anyways, so I leave that to the shop. Waxing is pure ASMR and I DIY all of it. Takes me about 4 hours, a large pizza and a beer/hour to clean, wax and brush our 10 or so sets of skis. Usually have some buddies over and wax theirs as well. Fun way to kickoff the season.

I've debated Phantom every season / every time I buy a new ski, but I really like waxing my skis.

Just finished our ski trip. After a disastrous ski trip last year we tried again this year. We settled on Snowbasin in Utah due to its lower elevation, highly rated kids ski school, easy assess, and affordable rates. My wife and I loved it there. Small crowds, no lines for the lifts, lots of food options and base and up top, friendly and helpful staff, a nice ski shop area with reasonable prices.

Snowbasin doesn't have any lodging so we got a hotel in Farmington close walking distance to shops and restaurants. We also wanted to try some other snow activities and having a more central location helped.

We did a guided snowmobile tour. They had double machines so the kids could ride on the back. Most of the trip was on unloved road but we got off the road a few times and made our way up to an overlook. We found a place for snow tubing in Nordic Valley that had a tow line to pull you and the tube back up the hill.

At Snowbasin the kids did 2 full days of ski school. They have a very nice learning center complete with a play area for the 3-5 year olds. It is a separate building so you aren't dealing with other people getting their rentals or lift tickets. After the 2 days my 7 year old mastered all of yellow, over half of green, and got a few marks in blue. My 5 year old finished almost all of his yellow and started on some green. In the end they were both able to ride a lift and navigate a yellow/green run. Most importantly they had a great time and want to do more skiing. I'm sure we will be back and my wife and I might even take some lessons and see if we can learn.

I also learned that Snowbasin has two complete Olympic runs from the 2002 games you can ski and they will be hosting the Alpine events for the 2034 games.

I've bought 2 pair from Ski Essentials with bindings and they mounted with provided boot make/size and bsl. Once received I had to back out the forward pressure screw a few turns to get the boot to lock in then back a turn or so until forward pressure indicator was set. Then set Din to ~10 ish. On the Marker Jesters I also had to adjust afd height with a piece of paper. The Strive 14 gw didn't require afd adjustment so even easier.

I lost about 55 lbs in 2023 leading up to my first time back on skis in 15yrs last Jan and it definitely felt easier than I remembered back in the day. After getting totally comfortable on steeps and doing a few mogul runs with instructors this year I'm even more motivated to lose another 40 lbs this year down to around 245 next winter. My intuition tells me less weight will make turns and stops easier so happy to hear you really felt the difference.

We left Whitefish on Monday. Zero fresh snow the three days we were on the slopes. They've got 8" the last 48 hours.

Oh well, can't ever time it.

I feel your pain, similar story to my trip to vail last year. Week of way above temps in the 40s in late Jan before I got to town and temps came back down with a lot of bare spots and ice everywhere. Day I drive back, it starts absolutely dumping.

Pretty much what happened to us this year, however, I'm used to a little ice so I had a blast in Whitefish this past weekend.

That was us at BC in early February. 50* in the afternoon and ice in the morning.

Luckily this next week looks awesome. Snow on Saturday before we get there on Sunday and then a refresh on Tuesday and Wednesday

Stupid active in the west through early April. Spring breakers will be gifted. Gulf of Alaska is really churning with some arctic air entrenching. So some quality snow finally.

Are they sending them mounted? I've always wanted the boot when I'm setting up. Those guys have like every boot known to man though so as long as they know what you're on, I think they can pull stock to mount.

If so, all you gotta do is adjust the din at the toe and heel. Might need to adjust the toe height. Thats SUPER EASY. YouTube University is easy for that one. If you need your DIN calculated, I can help or you can use an online calculator.

If not, then the same place that mounts the binding can likely structure the base.
Shop I bought them from in Stowe mounted the bindings with my exact boot model - 326mm sole measurement.

I'll have the shop in Winter Park (Christy's) adjust the DIN and get the boot in there. That's where we rent my kiddo's skis so hoping they can get them squared away, timely.

Last day of skiing spring break and this.ight be my favorite day skiing ever. My 8 year olds have been ripping since first chair non stop. "Dad! Follow me!" "Dad, I want to go to the top!" They're finally starting to feel the mountain and learn how to work with it instead of against it.

That's the best. Love skiing with the kids. My 9 year old boy will go through anything as long as I go through it first. So although I don't like trees and jumps I'll do it so he can follow and experience it.

We will be in the Caribe for another year. Just decided to stay till at least mid summer 2026. Honestly haven't missed getting up on the hill that much nearly as much as I expected.

I was right in the thick of it. Didn't see the sun from west of the Texas border until south of Wichita falls. As we were driving through Memphis a building had its roof torn off and tossed into some power lines about 30 yds away from us.

But we made good time and only made two stops.

I grew up in Panhandle. Not the Panhandle, but Panhandle, TX. Wife is from Wichita Falls.

I don't miss this or the ice storms at all. Give me the four seasons, trees and snow. Bleh!

Nice job. There are some insane videos out there right now of 0 visibility in Amarillo and Lubbock. Overturned vehicles.

I'm wondering if everywhere is back to normal or if 287 is going to be a **** show today.

We're about to make the Texan pilgrimage to the Rockies in 30 minutes. Port to Plains corridor here we go.

Whats your general preference when traveling to ski since weather is always so unpredictable?

You fly in and rent a privately owned car and get awd/4wd and ask for snow tires or chains just as backup? Fly in and take a shuttle/van? Or fly in and call it good enough to only have awd/4wd since most rental places don't seem to offer or gurantee snow tires or chains.

Just curious what most people do. I've got pros and cons I've experienced jn all 3 options.

Interested in this. Was in both Copper and Tahoe this season in pretty adverse conditions and had the same question

When we fly, we almost always use a shuttle as they're pros and have the right vehicles/tires/etc. If we need our own car for some reason (which is rare), we just make sure to get AWD, watch the weather very carefully and drive very slowly/carefully. We've never had an issue yet and we've driven through some pretty decent weather/conditions. However, at some point I wouldn't risk it and would reschedule and/or wait things out until conditions improved. I'm not experienced with chains and am not effin with that. If I feel chains are the only way to get there safely, we'll wait it out or fins other options.

If we drive up, I have an AWD vehicle and again, just pay very close attention to conditions and drive very cautiously/slowly. Colorado has a great app for road conditions with cameras, plow locations, etc. Again, if the conditions are too bad we alter our plans.

Chains aren't bad at all, especially if you put them on in a nice, warm, dry garage. Just don't try to put them on for the first time ever on the side of I-70.

Exactly my point. Unless I drive with chains from Texas, that's not really an option.

Went for it and took the wife and kids on first family skip trip. Kids are 7 and 5, so hoping to start a tradition. Howdy and Gig 'Em from Park City!

I'll be there next week. Give me the skinny on best eatery when you are done!

Hah, wouldn't know dude! We did breakfast and dinner at the condo each day and did lunch on the slopes at Red Pine Grill because the kids were focused on conquering Mellow Moose each day. Great first timer run.

We walked down Main Street in Old Town Park City towards the Mountain Village/Deer Valley side and that is a super cool vibe. All the eateries, shops, and boutiques you could want. I'm sure there is great bites over there along Main Street.
