I think You will be fine. The roads are pretty well plowed and I'm sure it will be a wet slushy event

2025 Purgatory Pond Skim
This was my 4th attempt and I'm now batting 50/50. I hit the water HARD last year but today was a great success!

I have been there twice with snowfall events exceeding 120" of snow in a single storm over 2-3 days with the pass getting closed from massive avalanche on both occasions, closing the road for 3+ days at a time. The first time we took 40" of snow from 8am to close. It was one of the greatest boarding days ever. Fortunately I brought 2 shovels that day and still took us about 2 hours to dig out of the parking lot and almost that long to get back to Pagosa, having to follow the glow of tail lights on the vehicle in front but only 15'+ behind. We wore our helmets down the pass and twice the truck was blanketed in minis Avs.MouthBQ98 said:
Don't I know it! My legs are absolutely smashed. I literally fell over at the base before my last ride up because my quads gave out. But it was sweet. Light crowd, everything open, and so much snow it was recovering even the skied over areas. You could just launch off through the trees at will.
Also, thank goodness I brought my chains. The Honda wouldn't have made it up there or back down without them. Even with plows running.

Honestly hate to disagree but at that depth it really isn't that much fun. If it really was 40 on fresh or 120 over 3, that's too deep. Most places won't open w that level of powder. You fall and you die.

If it makes you feel any better I live in CO and was only able to get 8 days in this year with no true powder days.
Solid unsolicited early morning rant!Quote:
Call me a total chode but sometimes you guys that are "locals" and regulars appear to sensationalize everything there is about snow and skiing.
Don't get me wrong. The purpose of this thread is for us to be be cathartic, and discuss our experiences, but sometimes there's a little too much of "BROA WE WRRE SHREDDING taters all day, omg can't believe people live outside 80mile radius of mountains."
Call it jealousy, or whatever, but there's definitely a "eff you guys I live up here unlike you flatlander Aggies" attitude.
Touche. Not even sure why I posted this other than… yeah, it's cool. You skied powder on your day off. Neat. You played hooky and did the same thing. Also neat.
See you next year with tips and tricks and notes and advice other then.. "I get to ski 19x more than all of you, bow down"
